This video is exactly what I was looking for! I inherited my grandmother's sewing machine (this model) but I didn't have the record with it, and as this is the first time I use a sewing machine, I was quickly blocked But now that I've seen your video, I'll be able to sew! Very good video, thank you!
I just pulled out my old 496; I had forgotten where the power cord was stored and just spent a sad half hour wandering what pile of papers it was under...LOL. Have been debating keeping it going for the very small amount of sewing I do (mostly hemming) or getting something built for beginners in this century...it is a dang sturdy thing and I have some amount of comfort with it.
i have problem with my sewing 496 starlet singer ,underneath the the rubber is worn out they are not engaging properly that why the bobbin case stick. Where to buy this part. please help me .
Hello, I got this machine when I was 15...i haven’t used it for many many years. But now I became a granny and wish to do some clothes for my little grand daughter. But the needle thread doesn’t. At home the bottom one...do you know what can be wrong with it? Thanks
Hello everyone, found this video very useful. I'm trying to fix the same machine, which has the dog feed gear broken. I cannot find the spare part to buy.. anyone ideas on models that fits the same machine? thanks
Hi Rayna, were you thinking of the SINGER 'GENIE' Model 353? I have one, and it was made in France! Where was the Singer 'Starlet' made? The Singer 'GENIE' is not a convertible free-arm machine, nor is it's more deluxe model the Singer 'GENIE' Model 354. The Singer 'GENIE' series of machines had orange and yellow flowers on them... from the days of "Flower Power".

Comment réparer les pignons de cette machine
This is solely a sales video. It doesnt show/tell how the needle should be installed or threaded and the spool loading is not clear enough.

S'il vous plaît en français.
I am blinded by the sun on this machine which is weird since it's a picture of a sun and not the sun..go figure.
