Nordhavh, where the captain is concerned about the conditions but the boat is not! Awesome tour of your vessel, very nice layout along with your personal touch!! Living my dream !! Thank you both 👍
Good thinking using that wing engine for trolling! I've been drooling on Nordhavns and I've noticed a lot of the wing engines usually average about a hour per year. Run that thing a little bit every time you use the boat!
Hi Mark we have over 400hours on our wing engine. 4 years ago when we bought it it had 26 hours on it! Lol. We must troll a lot. But we do love fishing a lot it’s one of the fun things we do !
What an absolutely immaculate boat. Hard to believe it was built in 2004, just a bout everything looks new including the engine room. Kudo's to you and the previous owners. Absolutely love the swim/fishing platform extension. What a great addition :)
Yes it’s been cared for a lot! The swim grid addition is amazing. We do so much back there. I can’t imagine not having it now! We love this boat. We are wintering some of it this weekend. But will still take it out! Just covering some of the windows and stuff 👏
Yeah! Lots of storage. More than we thought. We can’t believe all the storage on her. The Washer dryer is amazing when we need it. We have to be plugged into electrical or run our big generator to use it. It’s nice just hanging the clothes up after in the fresh air too
@@MVSKOOKUM1 I was going to ask how much power the washer dryer required. I'd like one in our fith wheel, though most places only have 30amp hook ups . We have a big built in gene and hook up for it but I don't want to buy one to find out it will be the only thing that could be running .
Carla the washer uses little power, But the dryer we have to start our bigger generator to use that . Actually the 30 amps from the marina we plug into runs the combo just fine ! So I can’t see u having a problem of ur plugged into electrical.
Hello you good folks! I've been checking your chanel for a few weeks now and you have become one of my favorites. Keep doing the dreamski. Safe travels. From chilliwack. We lived in the charlottes for a year and know your in paradise
Hello! So glad you enjoy our channel, it’s a new hobby for us while we are out adventuring. Derek has been to the charlottes a few times but I’ve still never been! It’s my goal to take our boat there oneday !
We are always up to something on the boat ☺️, we have no stress as soon as we get out. It’s like all the worries fade away. We try not to think of work or stress or life. We love being free
Great tour of a beautiful boat and by the way thanks for the crab bait this weekend at MK bay and getting me going with putting my first trap in the water.
👋. It’s a new hobby for us and we are just using my cell phone for now. 😂. We just wanted to share our adventures up North here where it rains and rains. We both still get a bit nervous recording and try to be real without editing stuff out too much. Just want to be our selves 😄
@@MVSKOOKUM1 You guys are doing a good job. Good luck. I think being real is excellent. Watching your videos, I am living vicariously through you guys right now.

Good video, good job on he tour. In your intro, we’re those two huge things shrimp? Wow if so. I will be moving up. Love Nordhavn and the 40 or 43 would be my pick. I subbed and watched some of your other videos.
In our intro those were JUMBO prawns we got in our trap! So delicious with garlic butter fried up. Yummmmmm. Those were pretty big. We love the Nordhavn too. So strong and built very good. Made for crossing huge oceans 😃
The swim grid is awesome, we love it. Adds so much more room for fishing, hanging out! We also paid someone to make us the Bimini, the blue cover over the back. That is so nice too since it rains so much in Kitimat!
lovely boat. You two are very calming to watch together. I've been looking at nordhavns now for a couple years and i see the new n41. Something went drastically wrong! lol. You really can't compare the two boats. all the best on your adventures. I'm subbed and looking forward to your next vid. cheerz
Thanks you for the nice compliments! 😀. Yes the Newer Nordhavns are nice but don’t look as tough, they are more fancy looking. Ours looks like a strong, hefty Tuna Vessel hahaha. I’m hoping to get another video out soon! 🧝♀️ Jen
Thats a beautiful boat the two of you have ...I could definetly live on that. Thanks for sharing Love the guest state room you guys really thought of everything when you purchased this beauty ....All the very best to you guys and all your adventures
All you need is ur basic BC boating license that can be taken online We both don’t have a captains licence or anything, that is more of an intense longer course more for bigger ships, commercial boats, or fish guiding. Maybe oneday I’ll take that course just to have more knowledge .
In our wheel house we have a nice bench seat. We steer with a remote! We don’t use the wheel unless we dock or need to! So We relax and drink coffee while cruising. The 43 is beautiful and has a nicer midship master stateroom ☺️
Nice boat, seems like abit cramped, but what would i expect at this size. Just one dumb question: how do taller guests feel in the ship? looking around the speccs seems like i would be brushing the ceeling with my hair on a bad hairday (1.93m 6/4 tall)
For two people the 40’ is not cramped at all. Even with two guests is quite comfortable. Our son in law is 6/4 and he seems fine with the height. Maybe has to duck a bit when going down the stairs to the stateroom/ bathroom. One of our rooms has bunk beds and guests seem fine with it too. But as any boat owner knows we all get two foot itis! 🤣🤣🤣.
Awesome tour. Thanks! The 40 looks cozy though. When you were shopping, did you guys look at the larger versions? Budget aside, would you choose a larger boat for the two of you? A 50 or 55 perhaps? I think they come with stabilizers which is something I would want.
Hello! Skookum has stabilizers which is super nice. We would want bigger but the expenses of maintaining a boat is huge, the insurance, moorage, maintenance of all the systems. If we had no budget, and we were ready to live on her full time, I think the Nordhavn56 motorsailor! $$$. That would be our Nordhavn dream lol. Then we could putt around for free in the winds. We would have to work for another 30 years for that dream haha
Thanks for a great tour of Skookum! I’m curious about how much fuel you burn at the optimal cruising speed. I’m assuming that is around 5 or 6 kts. I’m currently have a Crealock 34, which is a fantastic vessel and sails and motors like a dream. But it’s looking more like I may have to shift to something along the lines of Skookum if I expect to have my wife join me for some waterborne adventures. If we do go that route, the Nordhavn 40 looks pretty close to perfect for us.
We really like cruising at 5-6 knots! We burn approximately 1-1.5 gallons per hour! It depends on the RPM 😌. Very affordable! If we wanted to go faster we would just end up burning more diesel but why rush when there is so much to see. Skookum has a huge lead keel so it’s so stable too, especially when we have the stabilizers down it’s so nice. We do laugh when we hit current that pushes us 9-10 knots because that feels so fast to us now haha
@@MVSKOOKUM1 Thank you. Yes, that is very reasonable. I agree, no reason to rush. As a sailor, especially with a bluewater semi-full keel boat, rushing is not even an option. :) And no reason to burn more dinosaur squeezing than necessary.
We went to a boat show in Seattle, walked though a lot of boats. Selene and Ocean Alexander’s and Northwestern really intrigued us too. We really like the layout and reputation of the Nordhavn. Nordhavn was in our scope first and we were lucky to come across a good deal when we bought Skookum.
Before working at the Firehall Derek was a licensed mechanic at Ford so that really helps! He does all the mechanical stuff on the boat and troubleshoots through problems. It’s a gift because I just panic and try to read manuals lol. It seems there is always something to fix or something new we find. Like a cycle that keeps going over and over lol. Do you do boat trips up north on the meridian?
We have paravanes. Derek releases the two large arms using ropes on either side of the boat. The two stabilizing arms balance the boat, while chains are hooked up to two heavy metal plates called birds. It helps to keep the boat from rocking side to side. It’s hard to explain but we can try to do a video on this! ⚓️. Jen
Ranger has been trained to go on the back swim deck! But he knows we take him to shore a lot and has learned just to hold it! But he’s so good and has adapted😀. No accidents ever inside the boat yet!

It does seem that way doesn’t it. We have never been on one to compare.
During the engine room portion of the tour do we hear water dripping? Or was that a sound effect?
Yes you hear water dripping! It’s our stuffing around the shaft. It drips every four seconds. It lubricates the shaft so it doesn’t overheat 🤗.
