Sebastian seems to never get his props for being such a talented, intensely visceral actor. He acts from his head to his toes...leaves everything on the floor and continuously gets passed over for his magnificent portrayals of every character he brings to life. All anyone thinks about is how he looks. Yes...it's undeniable...and even more beautiful are his heart and soul. But at times I wish he wasn't so physically stunning... Maybe more people would be able to concentrate on and appreciate just how effing unbelievably and magnificently talented he truly is.
Stan was clearly the most interesting character in "Kings". His performance as Prince Jack was so powerful that it overshadowed David Shepherd, who is suppose to be the hero and protagonist in this show. Thank you for this vid, brings back alot of good memories of the show.
Riya Roopra in all fairness, Michael green (the show runner) himself said that the show did have its flaws (I think it was too ambitious for network TV, and apparently the people in charge who initially wanted to do it were fired) and they did have difficulty casting David at first; I don’t think Egan was that experienced compared to Ian McShane or even Stan for that matter (Green also admitted that he had accidentally wrote the pilot with McShane in his mind for the role he took). I also believe that there were plans to further develop the character in the future, before it got cancelled. I also think that there probably were a lot of actors who wanted that role who may have done better. Had Stan instead been cast as David (or the show had been on cable instead of network), maybe the show would’ve done better perhaps.
I just watched it. I don't suggest it. Main character and his mother and girlfriend are annoying as fuck. Their actor and actress are also shit. The show is about biblical character David in modern times. It's a really cool concept, but because of its nature, David always wins and mostly with miracles. And you know he always will. I mean real miracles, because, you know, he is David after all. And it's never feels earned. There are some goods aspects of the show, symbolism and all. Some interesting characters, like King Silas, Queen, and Prince Jack Benjamin (Sebastian Stan's character). But, man, after the 6th or 7th episode he is REALLY REALLY poorly written. He starts as the antagonist. It really makes sense. He is the crown prince, but king hates him because he is gay. Then, David comes, he saves jack's life during the war and becomes his dad's and country's number one guy, he even becomes like king's own son. So jack hates david and wants to finish him off. He also starts to become more and more ashamed of his own gay nature and never sees his boyfriend again and treats him like shit. So far it all makes sense. You can understand why he is an antagonist, and as you can see he is infact a redeemable character. The show also puts him in different redemption paths, but then it continues like nothing happened. First, he and david go to a dangerous mission together, there jack talks about his real feelings toward david. Later he finds an opportunity to kill david. Right there show references the story of Adam's two sons. In the story, one of the brothers kills the other and becomes the first murderer. But jack refuses to be like them and doesn't kill his "brother". After that David saves jack's life and they speak with each other. It feels like jack will become better towards david, or at least not hate him. But the next episode nothing changes??? Second, his boyfriend kills himself. After his death, jack realizes he can't deny his real self, regrets everything he has done, accepts himself as he is. He even comes out to his mother and says "deal with it, that's who i am, I don't give a shit, no more lies". THEN, NOTHING CHANGES. he even finds two different girls and acts like they are couples. (He even treats one of them really mean) what?? He's being gay doesn't really come up again and nothing changes about his character. Third, at start he plans with his corrupt evil uncle make a coup d'etat, but later he and his dad start to get along with each other and ditches his uncle, with this jack and the king plans to falsely accuse david with treason and kill him. (BUT THEY SAVED EACH OTHER MULTIPLE TIMES) He is very passionate about this until the very last minute. There, he tells the whole nation that his dad is evil, and david is angel, and innocent, and that they are falsely accusing him. Ok, I guess? So he runs away and turns to his uncle again. They again try cuop d'etat but at the last minute he changes his mind and throws himself to the front of his dad to stop the bullet reaching him. He gets injured but his dad is shot two times anyway. After that everyone thinks his father has died, so he announces he will be the king (rightfully) but then they learn that his father is still alive. Despite that he tries to be king anyway, then his father comes and seizes the throne, jack tries to stop him but fails, then gets punished. LIKE, WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THIS CAHARACTER
I started watching this show just cause Sebastian Stan is in it and I’m amazed. Sure he isn’t the leading character but he brings so much depth and so much to his character you really hurt with him
Got my KINGS DVD from Amazon through the letter box a few days ago and just now finished it! Sebastian did and absolutely amazing job as the troubled prince Jack, just the right amount of heavy heartedness and greedy of power (because let's be honest Jack did let his desire to take over the throne cloud his judgements ever so slightly).
Dude, whet?! I can't even finish this vid because I don't want to be spoiled! I gotta see this show. Even with no dialogue track, it's clear that Sebastian Stan tears up every scene he's in. It's not just his handsome looks which are truly out of this world, but he can act his flanks OFF! How did I never know about this guy before Captain America??? I've seen him in a couple things since then and he is so good.
This show was cancelled because they didn't get the amount of audience needed in order to continue with season 2. But Political Animals though, it was meant to be a mini series.

Yeahhh I thought the main character was boring. They didn’t give Jack a proper ending, making him the bad guy was a poor decision.

It's not bad at all, I literally sobbed after I saw what happened to him. Sure he made a few mistakes but he deserved so much better than he got.
