  • Finally! We're moving into the old homestead that was abandoned until we took over a few months ago. It'll be great to have a bed inside during windy or rainy weather and in winter.

Hey Chrissy and Clint, Use fine grade #0000 steel wool for cleaning the glass, works a treat and doesn't scratch the glass, use it with warm soapy water...

    • @robbryan2822
      @robbryan2822 8 месяцев назад +1

Yes, works great, even dry after a regular windex cleaning. Don’t re-use the steel wool after it gets or has been wet. Rust scratches glass.

Hello Folks! You might try a single-edge razor blade scraper. You can wrap one side of a double-edged blade with tape and fashion one for yourself that will scrape the glass clean.

Hi Krissy and Clint, If you have got lots of live spiders and years of webs to clean, the easiest way to deal with them is , buy yourself a heat gun , one pass with it and the webs shrivel up and the spiders become black dots on the floor to be swept up in a jiffy.
Barry Albany. Keep going you two,😀 you will soon be ready for receiving guests

Hi guys, for your windows that your cleaning, use steelos, the stainless scrubbers with soap in them.
We’ve used them on our boat windscreens and as long as they are glass, no tint, it works a treat and without much work.
    Doesn’t work on plastics obviously.
People don’t believe me when I tell them to use them on glass, but try it you will be surprised 👍

Purchase a sachet of Coopex from Bunnings. Mix it into 20L pressure spray filled with water. Spray the perimeter outside. Only downside kills every insect on contact. It works for 3 months to stop insects entering the house. Use the Raid insect can bombs in a box of 3 for inside. You can do inside a room. Each room, have to wait 2hrs before using that room. Looking great the improvements you have done.

Pumpkins are very handy Chrissey. They last for months. You two have done well doing up that dilapidated homestead. Ask the owner for some paint. He can only say no. Liked how your lawn has picked up. The hanging baskets would have enjoyed being put out in the rain. Glad you got some rain.

I'm not certain if there is an owner lol however it's always an option to check the neighbours for semi used tins of paint and/or next trip to town hit Bunnings and the off tins (wrong colour etc.) - you can generally pick up some real bargains and have fun.

Yep ... limescale remover [vinegar should do it if you saturate a cloth and stick the cloth to the window overnight ... and then use a green scrubby] but you can buy bleach with limescale remover in the shops ... next time you go to the supermarket maybe you should ask, or look for some.
and yep ... another thing you could try is a Stanley knife / box cutter blade ... not sure what they call them down under ... mother in laws razor blades ?
no idea ... but you could ask at your local supermarket ..!
failing that have you tried singing to it ?
Maybe it will run a mile as soon as you let rip !

You could try turning the windmill into a generator. Old generators with worn out motors can be common in scrap yards remove the motor and the rotational motion can be used. Use a voltage regulator and feed it in. You are making great progress. Good luck.👍

You will need door screens to stop the King Browns, Red Bellied Blacks and Eastern Browns from coming into your home. They will be looking for cool and water, and of course wi dow flyscreens too. One other thing, both of you will need to invest in some good work boots, living off grid is not for the feint hearted. Loving your reels❤ As for cleaning the glass a big dob of toothpaste and sturdy cloth and great wrist action will remove the lime coating.Another tip always bring your pot plants and hanging baskets out into the rain, they will get a new lease on life. ❤😊

For the Windows, as a painter, with paint overspray or stuff like the spray on glass frosting use methylated spirits ( metho ). Let it soak for 20 to 30 seconds and give it a gentle scrape with a flat blade scraper with a rag over the blade so you can apply a little more pressure on it without scratching the glass. Try a blade by itself first then drape the rag over when it is more stubborn. Cheers 🍻

Soapy water and a razor blade window scraper for the windows, with vinigar you need to add baking soda which is also great for cleaning washing machines, showers, etc. The walls, I would use sugar soap on them and then wipe down with clean water on a rag. If you have lots of mold, there is a produce call BC36 which you just spray it on with a Garden/Chemical Sprayer (wear a Mask) and let it sit for 30min to an Hour before washing it off with clean water. Be aware that this produce is corrosive just like bleach so don't let it sit on metal surfaces for any length of time or get into your gutters.

I am very envious of your Bluetti system, i have 3 105 and 3 120 amp hour batteries hooked up to 2 solar panels with all up 380 Watts of output. Just to run my 80 litre Waeko fridge/freezer. As long as i dont try charging up my laptop through a 600w inverter. If i do, the fridge struggles to run. If at all once the sun goes down, and cloudy days aren't of much benefit either. With lots of shade from gum trees, I have my panels layed out on a small trailer which i have to move around constantly chasing the sun. Every few days, generally in the evening I have to hook up to the car to give the batteries an extra charge to keep the fridge running through the night, frustrating and a pain in the butt. Like youselves i spend most of my time trying to get everything into a livable condition, if its not one job, its another! Its sunday, and im trying to convince myself to take the day off, But after lunch I reckon ill get back into it. That rain you had looked refreshing but i doubt that it got much cooler and probably got humid and sticky for a while. I think for you two and myself, theres still a year or two of work to be done before we really reap the rewards of the work we are doing. Im looking forward to that day. Take care of yourselves, Cheers!

Backcountry sells a "stoic" brand air mattresses that are 4 inch of cushion and air, and when they are inflated just right they are literally like a whole mattress. About 100 dollars, durable enough and comfortable with a small topper and sheets for thin mattresses.
Durable quality and long lasting materials makes it absolutely best value. perfect for campers or back seats, or tent camping too.
Just air up, press down with fist, when its fairly easy to depress to bottom suface, its most comfortable there.
I would have 4 if I needed them for every room, but its just mine and it works great with a small second hand platform bedframe. just as comfortable on the floor too. It works great for low cost low environmental impact, easy to use move and take camping too.
About 100 usd and maybe 15lbs, works great. takes 2 days to self inflate though. might just need a good air pump and vacuum if you plan on taking it places aired up and not aired up.
Some say its 3 star because they dont get the air pressure right. Once its aired up properly, it is luxurious for what it is.
Great work on the house, really amazing.

Hi Chrissy! You might try lemon 🍋 on those hard water stains. Either cut a lemon in half, and use one half or combine distilled water, lemon juice, and ammonia to remove those stains. If that doesn't work, you'll have to resort to a commercially available glass cleaner like CLR (Calcium, Lime & Rust remover), or something along those lines.
Each time I watch, I can tell that your place is shaping up! I know it's a lot of work, but it is so rewarding when you get done. Hang in there, it'll be worth it. 😊
