A pardon is typically "forgiveness" from the president, meaning they acknowledge that they commited a crime, but are basically cool with it. Ross obtained those bitcoins through illegal activities, and was also forced to pay something like 200 million dollars, which they waived when he surrendered his bitcoin wallets they have today. So he's definitely not getting them back. He definitely deserved jail time for what he did, but life was absolutely WAY too harsh of a sentence. Idk why so many people advocated for zero jail time for him

@aln4244 that would be called an exoneration. Pardons are different. You can look it up online, the offense stays with them, though I'm not sure if felonies do or not. And the government easily has over 100k bitcoins that they took from him they could give back if it was like an exoneration

I am sure some of the Bitcoin was his, but not 170k BTC. Probably 5% would have belonged to Ross. And that would have been earned illegally, so I doubt he will waste his time trying to get it back. If he was smart, he put some Bitcoin aside before SHTF.

Everything happens in small steps in the beginning. They would have to exonerate him to go forward with using Bitcoin and crypto in their reserve plans. That's the short of my opinion 🧐

A pardon restores him so the feds will have to return his property.

Yup and this could only have been done by the country you hate and gave up on. I dont see Portugal or anyone else doing anything.

if BTC is so safe.... how does the gov have Ross' BTC?

    • @christopher5692

He was sitting in a public library with an unlocked laptop, and they grabbed him, and then they grabbed his laptop and stopped it from being locked.
That’s how they got his BTC.

Trump probably did a deal with Ross, "we will free you out of jail if we can have your Bitcoin"

In all fairness, the vast majority of those bitcoins didn't "belong" to Ulbricht- they belonged to the vendors and customers who had coins on site at the time of his arrest. Hmm, maybe I can get my 39 back 🤣

Silkroad 2 was set up right after he got arrested..it ran for like 2 years before being shut down and replaced by Agora & Dream. It was never as secure as SR1.

@@bronkonovak6555SR2 was never airtight like SR1...they infiltrated SR2 really fast
