- A tribute to my favourite c64 game of all time - Summer Games by Epyx!
As a kid growing up in the 80's, the commodore 64 was my first and favourite video game system - I will always remember some of the GREAT games on that system.
Text from back of the game box:
You're an Olympic athlete competing in eight key events at the SUMMER GAMES. How well can you score in track, swimming, diving, shooting, gymnastics and more? So realistic, there's even an opening ceremony and awards presentation after each event.
Unluck other 'Olympic-Like' games, SUMMER GAMES has incredible realism, superb state-of-the-art graphics and sound effects, including nation anthems from eighteen countries, and true action-strategy game play. In each event you must plan and execute your game strategy in order to maximize your score. It's not just a matter of how fast you can move the joystick.
So change into your running shoes, grab your joystick and GO FOR THE GOLD!
Opening Ceremony and Awards Ceremony
8 Different Sports Events
Action and Strategy Elements in Each Event
Compete Against an Opponent or the Computer
Individual and Team Play
Joystick Controlled
One or more Players
I played this with my grandpa for many hours when I was 10 years ... It was an amazing times I miss him so much 🙏🏻❤️😥
This and winter games are the most wonderful games ever! when i was happy and i didn't know that :(
Such a great time to be alive
So true. I can still feel the smell of it, the sounds, the box I kept it in, and the loved ones who were still there at the time. I was fascinated by the C64 and they used to smile at me seeing my joy, fondle my hair and then they went on with their business. Open a beer or something.
That character animation is surprisingly smooth for the time.
summer games, winter games and gold medal games were so much fun playing them back in the day. what memories.
I spent countless hours playing this when I was a kid
Watching the '84 summer Olympics when I was four was one of the coolest experiences of my childhood. That was right before we got our first VCR. When our parents got us this software, it was like having the games at arm's length to experience at will.
Wow. My favorite game of ALL TIME. And #2 - Winter Games. Ha! I can't get upset with my kids when they stay up all weekend gaming because I did the same thing! Thanks for posting.
I destroyed several joysticks back in the day playing this game! Thankyou for the memories :)
Great games and great times playing these with old friends.
I loved this game as a kid. With the summer olympics on, my brother and I keep thinking about how awesome this game was. I think I'll install it with an emulator on my MAME cabinet tonight!
I so miss these type of games
Aah, the nostalgia for simpler days :)
Had a random memory of playing this on my uncle's Commodore circa '92 or '93. Thanks for sharing the video, what a gem.
The 1984 summer Olympic games upon which the software was modeled have been the template for what the games represent for me since they took place. I was four years old for both those games and the software.
This was a great game, Winter Games was even better. Good times back then.
It's just not the same without hearing the constant clicking of the joysticks during the running and swimming.
I can't remember how many joysticks we wrecked playing this.
We played sooooo much!!!! ❤️Commodore64
Lost count of the number of joysticks I went through playing this game.
Same here.. was a bunch of them.. lol
It's not Decathlon
Lol I had one of those indestructible Boss joysticks, otherwise I'd say the same. Not that I didn't try!
I remember my roommate walking in on me while I was doing the 100m racing. He thought I was doing something else lol
Strange. We played whole olympics with the family for a couple of years and we never had to change our joysticks.
This is how I learned the melodies for national anthem in such lol
including the USSR
@@johnfoltz8183 They play The Internationale instead in this game.
We skinned our palms the the c64 joystick when we were kids on this, awesome!!
Man this game brings back a lot of memories. My bro & I be competing on this
Thanks for uploading this. Brings me back to my childhood.
I always loved this game. Brings back memories.
Great memories of a great game, thanks a lot for the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was probably the game I was best at and played the most... I bet if I played it now though I would suck.
Great fun. Loved playing this recently on the Amiga.
ah the memories
Really fun game my friends and I played it alot back in the day and miss my old C64.
Activision Decathlon, Epyx Summer Games, Konami Track & Field... those were the days!
This game and winter games were so much fun playing growing up
OMG! How did you get this on RUclips? This was the best game of all time!
Instablaster...
Just 38 years ago. AMAZING TIME
Oh my god i loved this game in my childhood
MY first computer was a Commodore 128 and this game was a blast. The Amiga 500 followed and that was a different gaming monster altogether......
Omg I loved this game
This and winter games tore down my joysticks xD
Don't forget decathlon :)
World Games 🤔
I was just playing this on my Commodore 128 last night.
Our living room would get loud during this. This game was better the more people you had.
Birthday parties were the best!!
I played this when I was 4 years old
so around 30 years since i played the old c64 (128d) and i can't believe i only just noticed watching this now that epyx recycled the main character sprite sheet from mission impossible for this game.
loved this game. auto fire joystick was a great cheat for most stuff on it, but i got my 100m WR of 9.11 without it (eat that, carl lewis).
Epyx, the music they used for Jumpman Jr.
I had this game on my commodore 64 too. Wow, I miss those old days. I think I might still have my old 64 at my parents house in their attic I hope. I didn't have too many games on the 64 cause I had an atari with about 70 games for it back then.
Hey man, thanks for putting this up. Haven't played it since the 80's.
TAC-2 joystick was mandatory when playing this bad boy. Basically indestructible.
I still have that game. :D
Nice; I used to play the Epyx games a lot back then.
c64s is my favorite emulator for the PC - I recommend that. Plays all games pretty flawlessly!!
This was the best game
hell ya it was!!! cheers mate
that length of the pole 😏
The music when you lose the 4x4 relay made me LOL
A Tac 2 joystick is very handy for winning at this. I've really got to re-solder the cable on that thing. The best working C64 joystick I have is an Archer Auto Fire... and it sucks. I don't think most gamers today appreciate how smooth the C64 graphics were, and how precise your timing needed to be to do well at a lot of the games.
QuickShot II

:-)
Diving and skeet shooting were favorites.
Gymnastics and pole vault... tough but playable.
The worst was running.
I remember just doing the diving for hours!
How we loved playing this game in a group of eight people. We wrecked so many joysticks.
Yep, yep. Same here. We'd gather as many friends & family as we could (usually 6-8) & have tournaments. It was so fun. Games today just can't seem to bring people together, the way older games did.
For real. There definitely needs to be a "Goldbergs" episode featuring the kids playing Summer Games.
good old days
Ahh, one of my first gaming memories. :)
Best Sport-Game ever...
LOVED IT SO MUCH!
Man u gotta love the classics!
OMG...I loved this game.
loved this game was i was younger i remember whenever there was a party at my house we would boot this up on my bros c64
All my 1980's kids say "Wazzup"
I've bought anC64+Datasette 2 days ago. Now I've ordered the 1541 II floppy drive and a tv cable. All i am missing now is a good joystick. Hopefully my floppy disks still work. They are almost 25 years old now. Almost as old as myself.
I cheated and used a c64 emulator for the PC, then captured the video using FRAPS. And yes, I agree 100 percent - BEST GAME OF ALL TIME!!! :)
lol i remember! gosh i´m old...
Long Live Epyx!
My wrists have Never been the same - i tore up my joy stick..
I remember javelin in it though which was my favourite…?
That was the 2nd edition, "Summer Games II"
...also, you're skills are on point.
hahahah, thanks mate... i played that game for HUNDREDS of hours as a kid lol
This game along with Dr j vs Larry bird were my favorite. Also Bruce Lee game was awesome.
this was so epic back then, we needed to cool off the power supply of the C64 lol
I'm watching the Olympics right now in Equestrian and remember the horse refusal from this lol
Holy shit I remember this soooo well I played the hell out of it. Ans I used the same nation EPYX! Wow talk about time warp!! Now I am 12 years old again, getting pissed at the tv!!
That is awesome!
I was always one of 3 nations - Japan, Austria, or Epyx. They had the best anthem music.
At random, started humming the theme from this game... Anyone know the name of the song?
Don’t know the name, but I do know it’s used for NBC’s Olympic Games coverage.
OMG I haven't seen this in a long time! I used to try to set every record until my brothers would eclipse that.
Do you know where I can play this game online for free? I havent played this for like 20 years and im also after the winter games version which was also really awesome. I tried the commodore64 emulator and I can get the games to load etc. I just dont know how to configure the keyboard and its really starting to piss me off because I really want to play this so bad!
OMG the blue load screen....load..comma eight...comma one...
+Gina D don't forget "*" :)
This makes me feel so old haha 😂
LOAD SUMMER GAMES ,8,1
where go get the games ?
nostalgia overload
0:51 The Theme for JumpMan Jr
I did skeet shooting 25/25 also. After 1 week practicing. They come each time from same location and travel the same path. So possible to train.
I remember this game but for some reason it only seemed to work up until the swimming contest.

how can I find the youtube video where coach nick talks about this game??
Before my time, but I could see how this would be consider great graphics for its era. I think it's because of the animation.
The platform diving in the game was the greatest.
1984: "Yes dear, i will come to bed, just finishing this new game called summer games." - 10 Minutes later, everyone was happy.
2004: "Yes dear, i will come to bed, just finishing this new game called WoW"
2019: "Dear, i am finally done. They just launched the second round, but i think i will skip"
I am here because the 2020 games have been postponed.
I broke one of my joysticks (which was red and had white buttons) playing the opening ceremonies over and over again. I hit the button too hard, and I guess that's how I broke one of the joysticks. I kept it quiet from my dad, as he would've revoked my privilege of playing on the C64.
I had this tiny red joystick that you could flick back and forth really fast. I beat everyone with it.
And he picked Epyx, the way it should be
I had the Skeet shooting pattern down pat.
As God and my older sister are my witnesses, you could pull over a 10 in a single vault in gymnastics ...
Joystick killer
LMFAO I owned this game and broke every record on it, my favorite was getting perfect on the diving competition lol.
@bc8412 hahahah, no kidding!!! Long live "The Boss" joystick! It was my favourite and survived the most beatings.
Who is Coach Nick??
pretty good animation.
