I've always thought that this mania was a super important one, definitely a start of a new era. It's especially true on the next raw, a lot of important things happen on it to establish the new status quo.
Probably the most important pay-per view in WWE history as Austin wins a company's highest title (WWE, ECW and WCW) for the first time in his legendary career ushering in the Austin era as the great JR said after his historic win.
One of the best memories I have of my dad was being at this wrestle mania with him. I still have a picture he snapped of Kane setting off his pyro during the entrance.
Really excited for this one! Growing up, this was THE definitive moment when WWF took over and never looked back. Stone Cold became champ, and the landscape and future for the entire company changed for the better.
This was my senior year and the last time my high school “Wolfpac” were ever together watching wrestling. Always will have a special place in my heart, thanks brother! 🍻❤️
I have waited for this one for a long time. This really is a huge moment in PPV history and the start of a new era. Thank you WrestleBios(and those helping behind the scenes!) for having us relive these moments!
Shawn’s attitude during his entrance just hyped me up even more. You could almost say that in storyline, he knew this was a bigger challenge for him, so his personal issues played well to the match. It’s a shame we never got to see more of Austin and Michael’s due to both of their injuries, but the two matches we did get out of them were special.
Yeah, the workrate really didn't matter in this one. It was all about the stories and character and actually paying off things they'd built up. Unlike Mania 6, Great American Bash '90 and Starrcade '97, this really did change the wrestling landscape as we knew it. It's why it's the only PPV the Attitude Era podcast covered twice.
The sky was the limit for the wwf after this ppv. Ratings and revenue went through the roof after this, was glad to be around during the attitude era. Also got to go to many live shows during this era.
It’s only a small moment, but it makes me laugh every time during HHH’s entrance as he struggles to open the clasp on his new robe but still tries to look like a badass 😂 Loved the video Wrestling Bios. Enjoy your break when you get to it.
That main event was truly a passing of the torch “feel good” moment, Shawn Michaels representing the New Generation Era and Stone Cold representing the Attitude Era and Michaels putting over Austin to signify the start of what became to be known as the greatest period in WWE’s history
When i eventually watched WM14 i hadn’t really been interested in Wrestling for a few years. But this PPV felt different, you could sense the attitude and peoples interest growing. This was the show that got me back watching again.
I showed my brother this event on VHS tape afterward telling him "Mike Tyson's in it now" and that was pretty much all he needed to watch for 1st time since Hogan childhood. (I'd been watching again since Summerslam 97)
I've been waiting for this since the start of Reliving the War. This was right as I was becoming a fan and for the next few years after this, wrestling was all I was into. Great series Mr Bios, best wrestling channel on RUclips.

This was the first WWF Pay Per View my family bought in almost eight years. I started watching again in 1997 because of Stone Cold and heel Bret Hart, and this was the first time since I got back into wrestling that I was able to convince my dad to fork over $40 for the show. We all knew Austin was going to win, but we'd be damned if we were going to miss it.
The storylines were awesome during this time. And the fact WWF had lost so many of its big names was a testament to the writing, that WWF were still able to beat WCW.
Watching it almost 25 years ago and knowing that they had clearly been protecting HBK over the last couple of months you could see at the time that he was done.
WrestleMania 14 I remember watching this on a friend's recorded vhs tape the day after this show. It was a fun show enjoyed the light heavyweight title match the Owen Hart vs triple h match for the European title with the wrong guy going over but it was still a good match. I also liked Kane and undertaker first encounter it was pretty enjoyable for what it was.
Turned to the channel with blurs lol. Couldn't see anything but it was like listening to the radio. Got to see the encore presentation a couple days later. Couldn't wait til Monday to find out who won. Lol. Couldn't go to school not knowing who won as if I watched it live
I've always wondered if Bret Hart had stayed in the WWF if WrestleMania 14 would've been a Bret vs Austin rematch with Austin finally getting a clean win over Bret & winning the title.
I remember thinking that was the plan myself! That Bret would hold on to the title to pass it to Austin. I didn't know what was going on behind the scenes at the time so the Bret leaving for WCW thing was a shock! But I guess that's what made wrestling fun back then.
Whenever I see Luna Vachon I remember some footage I saw at one point of her training female wrestlers. She was so kind and caring in her approach and she obviously wanted to help these girls as much as she could. RIP.
2 issues I have with this WrestleMania.... - Sable getting over on Luna. The disrespect. Luna could actually wrestle. And the disrespect WWF showed her after the match by cheering for Sable and giving her flowers. Luna was so heartbroken. And it was nice of Owen Hart to come up to her and tell her she did a good job. And now Sable may get inducted into the main HOF all while Luna is already inducted into the 2019 WWE Legacy Wing. I mean, even in her death WWE still disrespects her. - Owen Hart should've won that match against Triple H. But I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled backstage politics to keep the belt.
I can understand HHH going over - he's going to be the new head of DX, while Owen's strengths as a performer weren't being showcased as a stoic face. I love his blackheart run, but they really had no idea what to do with him. Agreed with everything you said about Luna, though. At least she's remembered as the real babyface of the women's division today, while Sable's the heel everyone wishes had been jobbed out.
@@juststatedtheobvious9633 Owen was supposed to take on "The Game" moniker before Haitch got in McMahon's ear and swiped it. Which sent Owen back to mid-card/faction purgatory. This was and remains one of the best Wrestlemania's. All the matches had a reason to be on the card, all the storylines were developed, and there wasn't a boring match on the card.
22:27 the way Kane spoke about the Undertaker's entrance on the Broken Skull Sessions with Steve Austin still gives me goosebumps. To me this is the greatest Undertaker entrance of all time. Thunder and lightning, druids, Jim Johnston's Graveyard Symphony with the heavier gongs made it so unique.
This still ranks up as one of my favorite Wrestlemanias of all-time. Fun fact: Austin and Shawn did that counter/reversal stuff for the finish of this match back at King of the Ring 1997.
So much nostalgia for WM14 and one of my all time favorite. This was the first PPV I watched live and it pushed my Fandom into the stratosphere. The dumpster match is still great, and Stone Cold winning his first word title is incredible.
The Undertaker / Kane match was particularly great live/@ the time. As he points out, it was exciting seeing taker trying new things out of his comfort zone, + the false finishes actually served their purpose, as you have to remember this was pre steak, way before it was a foregone conclusion that he was going to win every match at mania. I don't think anyone even put together that there was a streak happening till a couple years after this & they certainly didn't make mention of it till I want to say X8...
Couldn’t get the PPV, no Internet back then. I was anxiously waiting to hear the results at school the next day. My friend told me Stone Cold won, I was jumping and shouting YES in math class and got detention 😂 good times good times
I started watching this series right before Halloween of 2023, and I'm enjoying a show each and every evening. This brings back such great memories, I grew up in the Aiken/Augusta area, and professional wrestling was a big deal in that area at the time. As I grew older it fell out of favor for me, then when I moved to Annapolis, MD in 1988, it returned in a big way as three friends of mine included me in their weekly trips to wrestling venues all over the east coast. Thank you for the great memories that are coming back with each episode, the best way I could think to express my gratitude was to order a few t-shirts, which I did earlier today and I look forward to being a walking build-board for this channel!
It was so obvious that backstage politics were playing a massive part in how he was booked given Triple H never put him over and Shawn only had one match against him after Montreal. If he had been booked better and without backstage politics going on he'd likely still be alive as he wouldn't of been given the blue blazer gimmick
I think you getting this far in this series is a bit of a milestone on its own. I've really enjoyed it and hope it continues. Glad this wasn't Shawn's last match either. He'd go own to have some incredible WrestleMania moments.
Props to triple h for stellar backstage politicking getting over on Owen. Set the trend for usurping more talented guys than him for years to come. Play the game!
I often wish that Owen had been more aggressive in his approach backstage, but he was the most laid back person in the business. He also had one foot out the door here. He was planning to retire by 2000 to become a firefighter in Calgary.
I've seen recaps of all the manias before many times over the years... But following Reliving the War all this time and getting to this event ...Man I really have goosebumps.. I had been getting back into wrestling since mid 97 after growing out of it( WWF) in like 91 or 92. I had just wrapped up a shift at work and my buddie called me and was raving about Mania that had just ended..I was bummed because I missed it..at like 1 am he came by and dropped me off his dubbed tape(. 2 cassettes actually...and Starrcade 97) and I sat in my first apt.and was blown away cheering in the middle of the night.. Same timing for me. I'd started watching wrestling again at Summerslam 97, 1st time since WM9. I was the perfect age at 16 for this, and a kid during the Hogan / Warrior era previously
As great as Undertaker was during this time he really needed someone like Kain to work with, just as much though Kain needed someone like Taker to get his career moving in the right direction. Really glad i was around to see this happen on PPV. 😄👍
Hey I still get goosebumps every time I hear that old school wrestlemania theme at the beginning it takes me back to my childhood man I miss those days who else remembers the 90s and their teens when all this was happening good times
The very first WM I ever watched live. I was a big HBK fan so I was pissed that Austin won. Of course, he makes perfect sense to have Stone Cold winning, but as a nine year old kid, I was truly upset over the outcome.
The ending sequence during the Austin/HBK is still one of my favorite endings of all-time. Very well done. I've always wondered if Shawn chose to go home early, due to the pain he was in, because the show seemed to end about 10-15 minutes early.

HBK is the greatest heel in pro wrestling history.
I was so mad Shawn Michaels lost this match and retired I never watched wrestling again after this night 😢
@@peejay9954 Oh please...Shawn has to lose. Austin is the new top guy and the fans wanted him to beat HBK. It would be a mistake if shawn refuse to put him over and then WWF would have never beat WCW.

WM14 was a must have!
My brother's friend recorded it and dropped the vhs off. My parents still have that tape lol. I've watched this atleast 100 times growing up
Royal rumble was my first ppv & this was my first wm. Still remember watching this with my mom & sis. It became a tradition to watch the ppv’s every month.
@@ianjay4596 lol that’s back when they had the illegal cable box. I had so many vhs tapes.
This Mania was much greater than the sum of it's parts. As the biggest HBK mark, it's also bittersweet.
Good ushering
Did you know that sit-down interview that Rock did featured the very first time he had ever said "If you smell what The Rock is cookin'" on television
One of my favorite Wrestlemanias mainly due to HBK debuting one of my favorite attires and Austin finally getting the title.
It was a very good attire. His black n green dx attire was also great.
I still think Undertaker coming out looking like Dracula is possibly one of the best entrances he's ever had.
The KotR match was far better except for the finish. The finish of the WM14 match was legendary.
@@catchcan221 I liked the way KOTR went off the air with Mr McMahon in his box looking pleased with outcome.
The HBK Austin match crushed me as a kid all I knew was my favorite wrestler had just lost his title.

One of my favorite PPVs. Used to watch this on VHS all the time back in the day.

The Reliving the War extravaganza covering the Showcase of the Immortals! A PPV I can confidently say we were all looking forward to seeing!
The sky was the limit for the wwf after this ppv. Ratings and revenue went through the roof after this, was glad to be around during the attitude era. Also got to go to many live shows during this era.
It’s only a small moment, but it makes me laugh every time during HHH’s entrance as he struggles to open the clasp on his new robe but still tries to look like a badass 😂
Loved the video Wrestling Bios.
This show will always hold a place in my heart where I really fell in love with wrestling.
One of the last wrestlemania’s that felt like a must see event
I can still hear those iconic words all these years later, "the Austin Era has begun!"
I've been waiting for this since the start of Reliving the War. This was right as I was becoming a fan and for the next few years after this, wrestling was all I was into. Great series Mr Bios, best wrestling channel on RUclips.
You keep with today's wrestling?🤔🤔🤔
@@zacharythomason7359 not week to week but if there is a big match that everybody is talking about I will watch. I mainly watch youtube channels like this one and listen to wrestling podcasts over newer stuff.
Waited almost 2 years on this one. Great story endings and beginnings.
The storylines were awesome during this time. And the fact WWF had lost so many of its big names was a testament to the writing, that WWF were still able to beat WCW.
Watching it almost 25 years ago and knowing that they had clearly been protecting HBK over the last couple of months you could see at the time that he was done.
He was on his out anyway
17 mins ago you post? We are all amped up and ready to watch our favorite Wrestling Bios and WM14:)
This is another big time during Monday Night War, momentum shifter for the WWF.
Been waiting 2 years for this day. The Austin era begins!!! Keep up the awesome work!
I absolutely love that you put the old N64 music in the background on these. Great work, Ryan. Love the channel.
I remember when Austin won, my step-brother flew off his sofa with his hands raised cheering. The attitude era was truly something special.
I've always wondered if Bret Hart had stayed in the WWF if WrestleMania 14 would've been a Bret vs Austin rematch with Austin finally getting a clean win over Bret & winning the title.
Im almost certain I read somewhere that a Bret/Austin rematch was the original plan.
I remember thinking that was the plan myself! That Bret would hold on to the title to pass it to Austin. I didn't know what was going on behind the scenes at the time so the Bret leaving for WCW thing was a shock! But I guess that's what made wrestling fun back then.
Seems like that would have been the storyline. Putting the belt on Michaels only happened bc Bret was leaving. Austin winning the rematch makes sense.
@@juststatedtheobvious9633, thanks! I appreciate your response 🙂
@@juststatedtheobvious9633 Owen was supposed to take on "The Game" moniker before Haitch got in McMahon's ear and swiped it. Which sent Owen back to mid-card/faction purgatory. The WWE got hot right after this Wrestlemania in spite of McMahon. Austin and Rock were just too good.

Excellent work mate ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Really wish Ken had either been in a position to at the time or had stuck around long enough to have a World Title program with The Rock -- those two were great together.
This was and remains one of the best Wrestlemania's. All the matches had a reason to be on the card, all the storylines were developed, and there wasn't a boring match on the card.
I still have this WrestleMania on VHS.
Stone Cold vs HBK and Undertaker vs Kane was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
22:27 the way Kane spoke about the Undertaker's entrance on the Broken Skull Sessions with Steve Austin still gives me goosebumps. To me this is the greatest Undertaker entrance of all time. Thunder and lightning, druids, Jim Johnston's Graveyard Symphony with the heavier gongs made it so unique.
It’s finally here - first wrestling I ever watched!
This still ranks up as one of my favorite Wrestlemanias of all-time. Fun fact: Austin and Shawn did that counter/reversal stuff for the finish of this match back at King of the Ring 1997.
Three Tombstones, Three “A-Level” Title Matches, Three “Stone Colds” by JR. What a time!!!!
So much nostalgia for WM14 and one of my all time favorite. This was the first PPV I watched live and it pushed my Fandom into the stratosphere. The dumpster match is still great, and Stone Cold winning his first word title is incredible.
The final sequence with the super kick into the stunner is one of my favorite finishes.
Wow
Yep. I actually genuinely hated HBK and HHH at the time. (Can't imagine any of today's wrestlers making people care that much tho.)
Kane kicking out of 2 Tombstone Piledriver's. EPIC
He almost kicked out of the third too.
@@PhenomsServant4 Indeed. If the Undertaker did not have the foresight to hook his leg he would have.
Did you really just say the crowd "booth" Mike Tyson?! You absolute madman!
The way they booked Owen. Only gets worse from here.
It was so obvious that backstage politics were playing a massive part in how he was booked given Triple H never put him over and Shawn only had one match against him after Montreal. If he had been booked better and without backstage politics going on he'd likely still be alive as he wouldn't of been given the blue blazer gimmick

Either that or time was needed for the post-match ending. WCW HH 1998 showed us how key time management is for a show.
This was one ppv that turned me off wwf as a kid. Big Owen fan and they just continued to misuse him. Worse than wcw used Bret frankly!

Triple H and Owen Hart were both so painfully underrated! They could've been the headliners with them being told to set the match up themselves without the higher ups getting involved and it'd have been awesome! Owen should've had several reigns as champ by the time he passed!!!!!
That moonsault to the outside by Aguila was a thing of beauty. Best looking moonsault I've ever seen.
