I drive that same '74 K5, had it for 30 years -- I read the comments, dont listen to any of these except the one that says they have three of these. Everything you found could be fixed in half a day for less than $1k and that K5 will run perfectly. Buy new window regulators. Throw away that Holly carburetor and get a Q-Jet. The cooling is nbd, get a 4-core radiator. Have the steering box rebuilt. Take it out of 4-low. Etc.
Don’t get me wrong I love the truck haha I’m just honest when there’s issues with a vehicle I have to show it & give my honest option plus a little comedy
I currently have 3 square bodys I’ve had over 20 of them this year. I agree with your comment 100%. I just wish that this K5 in the video had some meats on it. 8 lug axles and a front drive shaft. I thought the OBS rear bumper was a good look actually.

It has a 12" Superlift springs in the front, 8" Superlift rear springs with a 4" block. This has the old steering set up which really needs to be converted to crossover steering. When you pull the hard top you are going to love that Blazer.
That thing needs a newer style Silverado high country interior swap and duramax swap 💯🔥

@@scottysgarage4393 gas engines are for cars and LS swaps are too basic.. that’s coming from someone who owns a C5 Z06.. sounds like you’ve never experienced the diesel torque life or are one of those guys who could never afford one..
I’ve got a 350 ‘85, here’s what I would do:
That idle might just be either it just being cold, or your carburetor. I doubt it’s your idle, check the other screw on it. On your carb you’ve got screws to adjust the idle, then there’s another. Mine’s got a red spring on it, but I’ve got an aftermarket holley.
Check you plug wires, make sure they’re hooked up right.
Make sure you’ve got newer fuel in it.

Hard not to appreciate old trucks like this, back when these manufacturers took pride in the style of vehicle they were putting out and not just copy and paste. Yeah they had their flaws, they rode like boats, couldn't go by a gas station without stopping, doesnt start back up after you get gas, but at the end of the day even with those flaws; aesthetically you can never beat the style they had back in the day. Even all done up now it looks great, I think on something like this a little more tire than wheel would look good. Tho it would be a lot of work, if you did wanna keep it around, maybe throw a cummins in it, hoodstack it, do some custom suspension. Couple ideas. Regardless that truck would be a good sunday driver even being left alone. Definitely keeping my eye on that hot chili pepper sitting in the driveway, lookinng forward to what you come up with
I daily’d my 89 K5 till I tore it down to do a frame off resto. I’m expecting May-June it’ll be done and it’ll be my preferred daily again except when salt is on the roads. Get that top off ASAP and go for a ride, you’ll definitely have a whole new appreciation for K5’s.
It's cool but if I were going to buy one it would be an 1988 or 89. I like the dual under/over or dual side-by-side square headlights, plus they have some better technology, like fuel injection. lol.
FYI Older cars with a carb if it’s stock motor it’s best to put 87 because higher gas messes with the carb from my understanding!

A way to really make them square body’s have a good sound put the exhaust run infront of back wheels with a 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust all the way back with glass packs. My personal opinion

I absolutely love the color of the blazer for sure!!! Plus if you go to selling the blazer I bet just about anything you would be able to get way more out of it being blue and not pink!!! Hey let me no if you want to sell it?? Please let me no because I’m definitely interested in it!!! I used to have one but ended up selling it to a buddy that had just blown up his truck and didn’t have anything else to drive so he could get back and forth to work!!! I guess you could say I felt bad for him but I also told him if he went to sell it that I got first dibs on buying it back!!! Needless to say he ended up selling it out from under me!!! Mine was a 1973 I believe but can’t remember for sure!!! I do no it was the very first blazer that ever came out with a fully removable top in the square body style trucks!!! It had a set of 36” super swamper tires on it with a 6” suspension lift kit!!! I decided kick myself for selling it!!!!

I had a 1990 full size blazer Silverado addition freaking nice with the top off
My 74 k5 blazer blew the moter at 654000 miles the truck was a tank and would turn on a dime my dad bought it from a dealership in 78 and when i got my license i had to fix the suspension on it and put new wheels on it and it was great after that
If that thing had the white in the center like the og two tone style with that white top it would be perfect 🤤

Honestly these old Square body trucks just need a little TLC . Double check that fuse issue. Might have a broken wire or chafed jacket. Upgrade that carb, put a better rad in it and a good coolant flush, maybe some electric fans. As for the steering look at the steering box and the frame area around it they have been notorious for frame cracks. Other than that a good service. It looks like a pretty cool truck.
Looks like it’s got a holly double pumper carb already. Probably just needs a couple screws turned if anything.

I would really like to have ur Chevy but definitely not the wheels that's on it or the square body. More rubber less wheel. Put a set of Mickey Thompson 44x14.50's on a 15in wheel, Old-school that be badass**. I see all these really nice rides jacked up, wide tires but waaaay too much wheel and not enough rubber. And if its not bagged, they ride horrible and rough because of the wheels. Other than that, ur Chevy and the square body looks and sounds great man. And I say ur Chevy does pull like theirs nothing behind it and it's smooth because of the bags. Can't wait to see what y'all come across next.
Remove hard top by the bolts up front and on the sides in the back each side has about 3 bolts

I bought a 77 k5 from North Carolina and it is squatting... not for long
Ls swap that blazer or keep it small chevy. Holley efi convention. Pit stainless steel exhaust manifold manifolds off 85-86 k20 3/4 350 that have factory dual exhaust and put 2.5 dual exhaust with H crossover pipe near the transfer case. 3.73.1 gears and it will go 100 mph
