Seeing a lot of you focusing in on gta in the comments. We like open world games and we like sport games, why not combine them? We have the technology to do it so what are we waiting for? Yes the game would be bigger… It’s like the time we added a camera to a phone, seemed unnecessary at first but now it’s one of the most important features.

It was 2002 when I was hanging with my cousin and we were talking about how it would rock if NBA Live allowed you to simulate the life of a basketball player. You'd have to drive to practice, you could go out clubbing etc. Then comes NBA 2k5 and it has a mode called "24/7" which very few seem to remember of. You created your own player and you could call NBA players on the phone can bring them to a street court for 3 vs 3 etc. I and my cousing agreed this was a start towards what we were discussing. We now have 2K23 and all we have since then is the mediocre my career. Smdh.

All they needed to do is to tie all the "drama" with the NBA itself. Yeah we might be following KD's tweets but ultimately it's how he plays the game of basketball, and how he dealt with the game itself, his organization and teammates that we care for. Imagine if we get cutscenes due to good/poor performance in games, options to spend your off-season time improving your game and that take you to different paths like getting traded or getting minutes. Instead we get a gf, a city we don't care about, and some cringe dialogue written by some poor bloke who obviously isn't writing story for a living.

I liked the game so far, putting everything that frosti sad in 1 year is impossible, it will take time. The storyline is kinda of cool, a lot of cringe scenes, but the whole vibe, I mean the arena, city doing some task outside of basketball give me good immersion, and as someone who dreamed to one day be a NBA player it kind of gives me a little taste. I know it sound stupid lol. There is a few things I think they could have done, like making possible to skip the story if you want, putting HS, College and combine before the NBA, and making VC more acessible through grinding. But so far the gameplay seems better, more balanced online games, at least until now, and the MyLeague is kinda of dope with the eras, different graphics and gameplays.I think the community sucks, tbh, and no matter the storyline everyone would have hated it, I don’t think it’s horrible as some people say, for me the biggest issue is that the game seem to get some progress every 3 to 4 years. Problaby if NBA Live comes back it wouldn’t sell nearly as much as 2K but at least would add some competition. Side note: the fact that kids play this game and they want to keep it family friendly makes it impossible for people to curse in the story, that’s why when Shep is talking trash and there are rap battles everything gets cringe af.

anyone who wants EA back into any sports game is unserious. To think that will end in anything other than them securing rights and us ending up with the same scenario but now with EA is lying to themselves.

The best situation is a community funded game developed by a great dev team. There already was the competition and it ended where we are now. EA was making Live games when 2k was making theirs and 2Ks were almost always better after 2007. This can all be solved by either crowdsourcing a game fans want, or by simply NOT BUYING THE FUCKING GAME FOR ONLY ONE YEAR. Apparently the latter is too hard to do for the very people who bitch about the game every year the most.

For me the biggest problem is my career doesn't feel like MY career, I feel like I'm playing as someone else, I want to write my own story, not the story of someone else. The early 2k games, you could build your own character, you weren't someone else. 2k needs to allow people freedom to create their own story, not force-feed them somebody else's career and tell them it's theirs

they might as well just call it career forreal. or story mode. its definitely not MY career. i mean christ, what was it, 2k18, you were a dj or some shit and played streetball?! whose idea was that? you should be able to choose a path. like maybe one option is youre a high school star, recruited to all the major colleges. based on your decisions, maybe you go over seas instead of college. maybe you pick a team like duke or unc and end up on the bench your first year, enter the draft the next and it has an actual effect on the game. maybe you can choose to be a walk on, have a chance to earn a spot and make something of it. you should be able to start YOUR career in highschool, or college, or just the nba if you dont feel like dealing with all the nonsense. but yea, perfectly said. it definitely isnt MY career. its theirs. i try to skip as much as possible these days, and by the time i can get to meaningful games, im ready to turn off the game.

Bro? 2k17 barely even had a story. I played 2k17 all the way until late 2022 when i got 2k23. 2k23 beats the game in everyway and I thought 2k17 was fun af.
2k23 has way less cheese, the badge system is 100x better, the 2k23 story is better despite its flaws, better gameplay, more content etc.

What i kinda want in 2k is that if your myplayer ever wins a championship title, you can see the banner on the stadium through out the gameplay or having an interaction whenever you plan on changing jersey numbers that you can only do after the end of the season. Those little things would've been nice to see thou.

2K has been like this for years now, this year it sucks that people have to pay extra money for their build. paying minimum of 60$ for the game + 100$ for their builds to upgrade their attributes (as stated by Kenny) isn't fair to the players and their bank accounts

Make injuries a randomised factor, trades with destinations you can't control based on your performance and contribution to the team, flactuating minutes based on form and status of other team members. Basically the league to be a self determining entity instead of everything revolving around you. Make us work for star status and still face the realities of the business side of the sport.
And for God sakes make seasons beyond the rookie one enriched with sensible rookie regens that don't look like some concentration camp genetic experiments splicing humans with fish

i am sad to see where this franchise has been going. a lot of us grew up with basketball and it is apart of our lives. year by year us hoopers will forever play but we can no longer enjoy the video game aspect too.
Games today are mostly awful, particularly the big releases. They bloated, buggy, and exploitative messes. They think adding more to do makes it better. Just about every big release has quite a few fun parts, but finding those moments are like doing your homework before you can go out and play. I miss the days you could turn on a game and you knew every minute from there on out you would be engaged and having fun. No busy work. No needless treasure chest hunting or musical note finding. Just turn on the game and enjoy the gameplay loop.

I think the asking for girlfriends, cars, a city, etc. is what got us in this problem in the first place. The reason I don’t buy and play 2k anymore is because of the incredibly dumb stories, long cutscenes, and the need to spend like $5 in VC just to have a sleeve and a wristband on my player. I think we need a complete overhaul, not just taking what we already have and add in a “big booty Latina” and ability to customize and drive cars.

Also, I’ve always wondered why a sports game hasn’t done this. Charge x amount of $ every year for an update ($10-$20 for example) and update the game and rosters. We don’t need a brand new game every year. If they did what you’re saying and just do “seasons” like COD or Fortnite they would be rolllllllling in even more cash.

I would really like a story focused on your player being a hyped up lottery pick and your team drafts a guy in the 2nd round who you also create but they develops to be your player’s pippen. The story would give you choices that would impact your relationship and make you manage the egos. If things go well you become a legendary duo or you fall apart.

I think it would be fun to have twitter and get to diss other players or complain about a call. I also would like to see random events in a game like you arguing with the ref about a call or pushing an opposing player. Realistic Hard Fouls would be cool especially with how important they were in the playoffs. I think starting out in AAU tournaments could be a fun start.

ehh you have to figure, they kind of did a watered down version of that with the whole orange juice thing. i dont think theyd revisit a duo storyline. i liked the whole oj thing, since it really let me pad my stats and get badges and shit lol but i also remember the story just disappearing, especially after my 3rd created guy. it was like it never existed after i didnt vouch for him, or whatever the story was. he got traded and story mode was over. no more cut scenes.
One of the biggest problems, in my opinion, is the fact that they release a "new" version every year. I understand why they do it ($$$), but I think it would be a lot better if they released a game, and then continually updated it, maybe release some season passes etc. That way bugs would actually be patched, while now they don't care because they're already working on the next heap of trash.
The only way to make companies like this change is to stop feeding them. You can make all the videos/tweets/posts/reviews etc. but at the end of the day if they are still making good $$ none of that matters.
I enjoyed live 19s story mode. The one story was pretty good imo they had real you tubers and even first take talk about your character and to top it off if you got drafted by the mavs you didn’t have Luka as a teammate which makes sense

One of the problems with this is that the game is already 100 gb. Adding the city, roads, cars etc would make the game unreasonably large

I’m my opinion I think the two main things that fans can do are 1. Stop buying the Game and 2. Express your opinion on 2K through Social Media. The main problem is that people constantly buy the game, where it’s like how can you really complain about a product if you know you gonna buy it every year. While NBA 2K doesn’t necessarily have competition, if people decide to literally stop buying the game NBA 2K will have no choice but to listen to what people actually want.

@@secoTheSonicFan they listen to the people why you think you can’t max out certain traits like that, because people kept making 7’ pg’s that could do everything instead of just being reasonable now 2k forced people to make a build that barely does anything and literally the stats won’t really equal out to a 99 if you were to create a player on the create a plyer feature. 2k listens, Mike Wang listens, Ronnie listens. 2k has changed cauee of the community not for the better but for the worse, gameplay wise it is good movement is great but overall immersion, it’s based off of online comp not casual you want to be the best style of game.

Stoked that you're shining a light on this. I played my first 2K MyCareer during 2K22 and was honestly blown away since my previous "Be A Pro" experiences were NHL & Madden which are at the absolute bottom of EA's priority list. Even though the story of 2K22 wasn't exactly believable, there were plenty of times that I appreciated different elements of the story. I was impressed by the voiceacting, I felt like I could actually shape a narrative around my player, and sometimes I felt immersed, even for a just a second. I was really excited for 2K23 after such a pleasant surprise.
But good god, everything in this story just feels so unfinished; the out-of-touch characters and their weird relationships to MP, the plot that was written by someone who has no idea how drafts work (as if an 18th/19th pick has ever been talked about for more than 2 minutes during the entirety of their rookie season), forcing off-court activities before being able to play an NBA game, and even tinkered gameplay mechanics like forcing team takeovers. It's almost like they took a giant step back in every direction. Crazy disappointing - but all we can hope for is another intern getting a fat promotion thanks to you next year.
As someone who only played 2k17 up until now where I bought 2k23, i cant speak on 2k22, but the amount of improvements in 2k23 outshine the flaws in the story.
You also contradicted yourself. You said the 2k22 story wasnt believable but then had a problem with the draft rivalry. Even if the draft placements dont make much sense with the story, is that really enough to say the story is trash?
I think they bailed on the original story. The college storyline was really good. It felt like it was a main storyline that they bailed on. It felt shoehorned in at the end of the main story.
Bro, all I want to do is just create my myPlayer and play basketball. I just want to play park and the NBA games. The city and now the neighborhood ruined 2k. The game isn’t fun anymore. I don’t mind grinding (and sometimes paying) for VC to improve my player. But I hate having to spend VC on frivolous stuff that makes no difference on the court. I have gotten every 2k since 2013, but, honestly, I think it’s time for me skip out on this one. It’s just so boring, tedious, and repetitive.

2K has been trash for a while. Last good game was 2k16, but even that game had the VC issues and microtransactions. Golden era of franchise was 2k8-2k12, when gameplay was on point, tons of content, and no microtransactions.
imo the prison story trailer that someone put out was way better than the current story, and I wish we got that story, and 2k added to it because we need stories that go on for multiple seasons and not just 26 games which it took me to finish this years story in. And after you finish the story the game is boring. ( I don’t play park much because I get terrible servers )

Proposal: if mycareer can’t be fixed in its current state, because its completely unrealistic and boring, let us have another mode where we can follow the paths to the pros for like a dozen handpicked NBA stars with interesting backstories.
Let us play the journey of Jimmy Butler, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum, etc. and have them periodically chime in to talk about the various stages of their lives and careers that we as players are about to begin in the game. Frame it like a real sitdown interview where you’re living the events they are recalling in the interview. the challenges they faced, what have you. You’d follow their path specifically, like with Jimmy you go from high school to JuCo to Marquette to the NBA, with Luka you could dominate in youth ball before being signed to a big Euroleague team, etc. And like the MJ mode in 2K11 we have to complete certain challenges before we can move on. And then once we’ve officially made it to the pros we can play with those players as rookies in an offline mycareer mode.
This is more realistic because its literally these people’s lives we’re playing out, and I think it’s more emotionally provocative with guys like Butler with harder upbringings, and makes you appreciate basketball more
I really like the idea, the only problem is that their story has already happened. Like what happens if we average 40 and 10 in high school as Jimmy and we still don’t get recruited. You get what I mean? But I like the idea, maybe expand the jordan challenges to more than just MJ, let us play game 6 in 2012 as bron, let us play game 7 in 2010 as Kobe.
@@txrose9225 but that’s sort of what I’m saying is that it would help really understand the struggles and triumphs of these guys. For instance the frustration of balling out like Jimmy and then not getting any offers would be much more emotional in my opinion than any of the mycareers have been able to do, despite their attempts to make mycareer more story-driven. I don’t know I just think it would be more realistic and give a better appreciation for the game of basketball than what we’ve got now
@@txrose9225 or here’s an alternative of it specifically for 2K24: have “Jordan Moments” type things for a bunch of different current NBA players, like you mention. Once you beat all of those, then you unlock my idea of following Kobe’s come-up from stardom in high school, to rising star in the NBA, to his legendary moments. And also frame it like he’s telling the story of his own life like I mentioned in the original comment. And once you’re done, end with some heartfelt montage of a bunch of different moments in his career, good and bad, and then finally you shoot his final free throws against the Jazz with the crowd cheering. Make them both, cut to black and listen to the cheers

I actually enjoyed the story mode from 19 most. Slightly over dramatic but the grind of going from G Leaguer to pro felt realistic. They should give people the option of taking the high nba pick route or undrafted player. Or steal/enhance the storyline from Madden this year and make your player a 3rd year guy who struggled to prove himself due to lack of minutes and now everyone is calling him a bust. Start the story from there and let us play to earn a bigger contract and or test free agency. And then build in additional story scenes based on whether you stay with the team that drafted you or you leave for another team

I deleted the game when I couldn’t load into my next nba my career game because I had to do skateboard tricks in a basketball game not only that the attribute upgrades are way overpriced I think it’s going to be worse in the future at this point I’m just going to pray some smaller company makes a better basketball game I’ve given up on 2k they won’t do anything

“Left-right cross online” was a good description of me throughout high school. And it felt good. Now I’m a senior in College and it’s not enough for me. The old squad doesn’t really play anymore. I want good basketball, but I can’t get that because of all the no-life’s complaining about every gameplay feature. I want realistic stories. It’s really sad. I don’t have time to play 5 seasons just to be a 86 overall w/o VC. Plus they ruined park which was the only mode I played with friends. Just sad.

NBA 2K needs to start being more like FIFA. I never understood why we can’t just get every team in the world from every league and focuse on the FIBA experience.
Thank you for this serious video. I feel like we as a community have been let down year after year by 2k. I'm a PC player and, instead of allowing us to purchase the next Gen version, they're selling the old version year after year and expecting $60. I'm done purchasing these games until there is some real change.
There also needs to be something like diamond dynasty in my team. They don't give incentive to try new cards and experiment. In the show, there may be a 96 ovr card that carries your team even when the rest are 99s. My team is just a disgusting money grab at this point.
I agree with your take on this, Mycareer/myplayer mode was the only reason I ever bought 2k since its introduction. Before this 2k23 the last one I bought was 2k17, even though the they ai cheated like crazy and it was the beginning of sponging players for merch that they would delete later. The story was the last one I felt like was any good, I like making choices and having my play recognized and considered in outcomes. Not the online park aspect of the game they seem so focused on.

What's crazy is I feel like these developers got game improvements completely reversed. Better graphics are cool but the games that stand the test of time are always the ones with the deepest, most compelling stories & with the most immersive experiences. Any gamer that plans on playing for more than a couple months will take deep game features over better graphics anyday.

4.bring back older animations and size ups from 2k16. Im not just talking about dribbling . I'm talking about certain off-ball animations fast break animations, passing lane and overall gameplay animations that made 2k16 feel more authentic and better. Also still add newer animations too. To make the gameplay fresh and more authentic to real life everyear. Like the living world gameplay system from 2k16. Nba2k23 gameplay is still the best in recent years though.
5.keep updating and improving my nba eras. Add Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller And 60s/70s era. And add more classic play now teams.

7. For newer players to 2k bring back the tutorials in 2ku from 2k12, where they had mentors on the sideline like micheal jordan or Carmelo Anthony, or LeBron james teaching you how to play.Its a small detail but I like and miss those attention to details.

Not sure adding a small city would be a good idea considering this game is like already 140+ gb in size. Though yes mycareer story shit, i feel like the real problem of this year is the inflation on upgrading our player. Getting to an 85 is even more expensive than ever before and this game is already expensive enough, but you have to put another $100 just to be able keep up with online players, there’s grinding your overall but they like cut the amount of VC you can earn by doing quest and playing games.
I think it would work because me personally, I never keep two years of 2k at once. I play one year, when the new one comes out, I delete the old game and never touch the old one again.
I feel like most gamers only play a couple different games all year round and external hard drives aren’t that expensive.
They could make it an optional download like how in COD you don’t have to download all the map packs

NBA Live 09 with dynamic DNA and shit was crazy. Guys literally played differently game to game based on their makeup. It dictated where people went on the court what they did and how they did it. Shit like that was great.

2k's gameplay has improved massively over time. It feels more like real basketball now more than ever, and I'll give credit where credit is due. But basketball has always been more than the game itself. It's about the culture, the community, the service the game gives.
It's not easy to capture that in a video game, but Frosti has some good ideas. That being said, 2k has a year. Maybe driveable cars aren't a priority. But how about a community service story option, where you can choose to run basketball camps for the kids in the city?

I played 55 games, and myCareer story stopped after like 25-30 games. I played my rival once, dominated him and still nothing.
I won ROTY, defensive player of the year, and finals MVP. And still crickets.
I had to make a second player to get the career story to come back.
I didn’t buy 2k23 this year but I’m still totally up for being apart of the movement to kick out 2k or move them in the right direction

But most things are still terrible. Paint d sucks ass. Steals are overpowered. And it’s not just from dribbling and getting ripped. Passing logic is terrible. Makes players throw the ball at the defender when you have a teammate open. This game is overhyped. Games hasn’t been good in years. They should add the chemistry aspect that MLB The Show has. If you dunk on a player or score loads of points against him or an ankle breaker, it would be great if the next time you play him his stats improve a bit to show that he wants to get even. Or if you constantly beat a team in the playoffs or they are a rival team, they should boo you on the court. Also, it would be good to have chemistry for the whole league. For example, if you play for the Celtics and you build chemistry with Brown and Tatum, if you all of a sudden request a trade to the Laker, Nets, Knicks, or Raptors the y should be come rivals and act accordingly on the court on social media.

What bothers me especially playing on current gen, is having the same cutscenes during timeout, halftime, walking into the training facility, When the coach does the whistle thing and you gotta skip the drill, etc i could go on forever it just makes it boring ive been seeing the same little details since 2016. all they do is change the graphics and badge system every year. It would be cool if 2k had two different sub companies dropping games every other year with a different feel to it like call of duty. It would be refreshing but until then we will keep gettin the same thing
I think the most important thing is gameplay. I also think It's important when they make an effort to improve the game in different ways. I love the eras idea, I didn't even expect it. Sure My Career is not that improved but it gets attention almost every year. I don't think it's even necessary to add anything. Story is something that varies from game to game anyways.

Remember when ign gave 2k18 a 8.4. Yes a 8.4 when 2k23 got a 6, 2k18 is highly noted as one of the worst 2ks of all time. With its horrible frustrating, and gitchy gameplay With horrible microtransactions like having to pay vc for haircuts, or the unskippable cringe cutscenes that force advertisement, Myteam was worst and thats saying alot because I still choose not to play myteam because its still has pretty bad microtransactions. Its safe to say microtransactions wore way worst in 2k18. Gameplay was less skillgaped and incredibly glitchy Also the neighborhood was boring and frustrating. That saying 2k23 decent but its not the best. Microtransactions are really bad worse since 18, also I hate the grind,money, and hours spent to upgrade your player attributes also. Mycareer is getting worse by the years so glad we can skip cutscenes now. With mycareers cringe writing that makes no sense to the story, Stupid cringe city sidequest that is not basketball related. Like going around the city to perform tik tok dances just so you can pass the quest and play some basketball. I miss 2k19, 2k16,2k17 Mycareers they wore more basketball focused and had a more eyecatching no cringe storylines. That saying 2k23 has some of the best gameplay in years its more realistic, motion and feel has improved, it has skillbased shooting and gameplay, and theres more animations then last year to add authenticity in the game, still would love to see more polish and detailed gameplay in future games. The city/park affiliations and environment are really amazing. You can go around the city way faster. Jorden challenges are back Mynba eras brings depth and more fun to offline players Even though I still feel like they can improve Mynba eras. Myteam is better with no contracts, more rewards, and offline modes. But I still say stay away from that money hungry mode Seasons and legend grind is great. In my opinion so far as of now 2k did decent this year. That said I cant call this good 2k though because its missing minor online/offline and aesthetically pleasing details form older games. Such as the old intros they stop doing intros since 2k17 I miss the feel of loading up the game and seeing the cool and unique intros. I miss how they use to update blacktop environment every year, and I wish players would still were their jersyes in blacktop. And myplayers still be able to were street clothes in blacktop and in rec. I miss how they use to have the three point contest and the dunk contest in blacktop, also celeberties too. If the bring this feature back it would be cool if they added knockout to black top also. I wish they would improve the all star game modes and have trophy presentations and better crowd reactions and dunk contests. I miss the cheap basic yet aesthetically pleasing clothes from 2k17/2k16. I like namebrand clothing like in newer games. But i miss the basic clothes that the took out when 2k18 came out. I miss the 2k16 main menu with the players on the screen. It made the presentation so appealing I think 2k23 is decent. I just miss the feel of older games. In 2 or three years I would like to go back to 2k23 and have that same feeling still have even with the servers off with 2k16 and17 Also I wish microtransaction woud be gone too, microtransaction been worse since 18. If you go back 2k16 and try out 2ku freestlye or 2kplay now you will see that players had a animation that triggers when you sprinted and ran the ball up court. I also wish they would add crossplay next year with xbox and ps4.
Also graphics are the best in years. I just feel like 2k14 and 16 graphics still hold up to this day. If you get 2k14 lighting and put in on the amazing graphics of 2k23. I feel like that would approve 2k23 graphics overall. Also they need to make the color more brighter and less faded in future games.

These suggestions are great, but the problem is it's a yearly game. They have only a year to make a good game and it's extremely hard to innovate with no time
This is why they shouldn’t necessarily focus on how the game looks and all the graphics and stuff but, they should focus on the details like having you in control of your my career and not necessarily a story based one the story should be based on how you the user navigate through the nba through your play and interviews with the press similar to 2k14 in a way but obviously leveled up
Being forced to enter the NBA immediately instead of getting to at least level up a bit in highschool/college told me how greedy 2k is this year. "Let's ruin the player's character by putting them at a severe disadvantage, unless they buy VC of course."

I understand that the MyCareer story is quite lackluster. But imo, the game can't be trash when it's got solid gameplay, mostly great soundtracks, and an impeccable creation suite within a just-as-good game mode in MyLeague/MyNBA. I will say, i'm digging your proposals to make the career mode better.
I wish they would go back to 2k13 and get rid of the cutscenes and story mode for MyCareer. I just want to play games to advance my player. Screw all that extra BS. The story mode has been absolute crap ever since they implemented it and if I could just hit A to skip all the cutscenes, I would. I haven't played this one yet, but just to hear that you actually have to now walk to destinations to play basketball is even more of a time consuming chore just to play the actual game of basketball. SCREW THAT! I also want my 360 between the legs dunks back!

I liked the game so far, putting everything that frosti sad in 1 year is impossible, it will take time. The storyline is kinda of cool, a lot of cringe scenes, but the whole vibe, I mean the arena, city doing some task outside of basketball give me good immersion, and as someone who dreamed to one day be a NBA player it kind of gives me a little taste. I know it sound stupid lol. There is a few things I think they could have done, like making possible to skip the story if you want, putting HS, College and combine before the NBA, and making VC more acessible through grinding. But so far the gameplay seems better, more balanced online games, at least until now, and the MyLeague is kinda of dope with the eras, different graphics and gameplays.I think the community sucks, tbh, and no matter the storyline everyone would have hated it, I don’t think it’s horrible as some people say, for me the biggest issue is that the game seem to get some progress every 3 to 4 years. Problaby if NBA Live comes back it wouldn’t sell nearly as much as 2K but at least would add some competition. Side note: the fact that kids play this game and they want to keep it family friendly makes it impossible for people to curse in the story, that’s why when Shep is talking trash and there are rap battles everything gets cringe af.
I mostly agree, but seeing how terrible the movement is in the city, especially the skateboard, I’d rather 2k minimises the distance that needs to be traveled, rather than enlarges it. Hence why I think subway is a step in this direction in 2k23.

This is literally the same problem in EVERY major sports franchise game… Madden, FIFA, The Show, etc… The story always lacks and we pay $70 for minor upgrades. Same horse, different saddle. This whole genre needs an overhaul… sad part is they’ll never care, bc we keep buying it. We’re all guilty of it. Just kinda sucks
