  • Listen to and watch veterans of the battle of Hamburger Hill give their personal accounts about their experiences during the battle. In this video we hear the men from 1st Platoon Bravo Company, 3/187, 101st Airborne Division talk about their experiences. This is the first in a series of videos based on footage from a visit to Hamburger Hill in February 2023 and video interviews made at the Hamburger Hill reunion in Clarksville Tennessee and Fort Campbell Kentucky 2022.
Together with wartime footage and the videos from this year in Vietnam and last year in US, this video provides a unique insight into how the battle of Hamburger Hill played out for this unit.
This video will be followed by more videos with stories from other men in the Rakkasans about the battle of Hamburger Hill and the assault at Dong Ngai two weeks before Hamburger Hill.

Hello Olivia. Thank you for your comment. I was so blessed to meet Tim last year at the Hamburger Hill reunion where I recorded this and some other interviews. What a great man he was and he had such a big, warm loving heart. I will never forget those days. He will never be forgotten.

@@Jonas-Namwartravel Thank you for sending me this link, I finished the Crouching Beast book last night by Frank Boccia, Tim is mentioned quite a bit in that book and I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I'm glad to see Dennis here in the video, one of the few guys that made it out with Frank, such a crazy time in the history of the US. I was only 2 years old at the time Hamburger Hill was going on but I have met quite a few guys who did end up going to Vietnam and I'm strangely drawn to that war for some reason.

Poignant seeing the men here telling of the battle , then switching to the photos of the boys who fought it . The tragedy of that friendly fire incident, terrible like that at dak-to the previous year where two 500lb bombs hit the command and casualty clearing areas.
The interviewer's french accent , reminds me of footage from the battle , where the reporter interviewing the troops had a french accent , is it the same guy ?

The strategy's used in nam are very questionable in my mind . . . in many situations it reminds me of the civil war 😏

A friends father who is also a friend was on and wounded on 937, Barry Leighty. I can not recall what specific unit he was with there.
