I have been doing body work for 25 years now and went to school for it, and finally someone actually is truthful abut body work. It sucks its labor intensive, but beyond satisfying when it turns out amazing. Thanks for the content and the hours of entertainment.
Body work always seems to me like painting. Most of the actually work is done before you even paint. Like in the uk if the boards are levels, the screws aren't hidden and the plasters aren't any good then no matter how good you paint you'll see the imperfections

One of the best episodes I have seen so far. The paint came out amazing. Body work is always a lot of work. If you do paint and body work for a living then you know. So good job. The car will look awesome when it gets done 👍
Ridiculously cool colour. It has to be said, but the balance between half-assing cheap cars to have fun in and doing great looking painjobs like this is why I love this channel so much! You stress it often, but everyone can have fun with restoring cars, one can and will do it better than the other, but it's fun both ways!
I've been a mechanic for over 20 years, but never could get the confidence to try body work. I really appreciate your effort to help de-mystify body work and paint. It's given me the confidence to attempt to fix the failed paint on my late grandfather's 1987 LTD Crown Vic. He had it re-painted when I was about 10 years old(1992 or 1993? I think) and the clear coat has started peeling off in sheets like plastic wrap over the last few years. I might take the plunge over the winter and see how it goes.
@@PoleBarnGarage Hi Dalton. I enjoyed the video and the car came out great. Looking forward to the wet and polish. Would you please explain the comment here? Can you not use increasing grits of wet sanding? Based on your comment, I surmise that the old clear will clog up the paper. Ihave a 2001 Sequoia that has peeling clear only on the back hatch. I bought some Duplicolor to "match" and some 2K clear. I was hoping to make it presentable. It is only on the rear hatch and mostly up top, so was looking to mask everything else and give that a go just to fix the most egregious eyesore.
The adhesion between the clear and base is failing, hence the clear coming off. You can’t really know for certain which is a fault, that’s why you need to remove both. You’re going to go all the way to bare metal. You don’t need to wet sand. You can get very aggressive 80 grit will do fine for stripping. Just don’t leave gouges or you’ll be doing lots of priming and blocking as demonstrated here
Dalton, I think you nailed it on this car. The color and result is fantastic. I wrench a lot but never been a body man. Dalton, you are a very good teacher, and you show how a job can be done at home and you do an excellent job to help your viewers and that's all that counts.
Man, always love the body work/ paint content from PBG. Easily the most informative and attainable for the backyard/ shade tree guys like us. Best to find somebody like Dalton that can teach you this well in person but for a RUclips rundown this is where to learn it!! Not to mention how sweet the car came out!
Don't sell yourself short! Definitely an 8/10 right now. Once it's polished up, it'll be a 9/10 at least. Great color choice. I didn't catch the live last night, but watched it after. Can't wait to see it finished and see you enjoying it!
God dang that paint job is amazing! This type of restoration is what i love to see, so few channels do this! I would rather drive a car with this paint than patina. Always love watching these types of videos.
Hey Dalton, a good trick for getting rusty bolts out is to try and get it to turn a little, just enough to give you a small gap to access the threads. Then soak the threads with kroil or any good penetrant, NOT WD-40, its a actually a water displacement, then after it's soaked for a while, hit it with a acetylene torch and get it red hot, then soak it again. Let it cool a bit, then try to remove it by hand. Work it in and out, going a bit further each time, it will eventually come out. I've had good luck with this method
I painted a 79 Monza pro stock that same color and it was stunning out in the daylight just like yours. Great color choice. Looks as good from what I can see as any of the body and paint shops around here could do and you are absolutely right when you say "this is how they do it". Hope you put the first engine back in it and get the cooling worked out, that would be awesome. Very enjoyable video.
Wow she came out beautiful. I love that blue you picked. I painted my 69 Buick GS convertible in the original factory blue color that it was and it closely matches your blue. Great job Dalton.
Dalton, it’s always interesting to read your viewers comments. It broke my heart to hear about a man’s Dad’s 69 AMX burned in his pole barn garage on his Dad’s birthday - that is tough. However it was so good to read about other viewers deciding to perform body work on some of their heavy medal because of listening to your advice while working on your Pontiac. When Jess was doing the walk around view of your beautiful piece of art and got to the head on shot of the hood, I felt the power under the hood - the power hood. Happy birthday to Jess and it’s always great to see her working with you as her smile always brightens up the shop and makes you somehow look better. Great episode as always.
This is why I became a member. I know mechanical stuff, but I do not know nothing about bodywork and you take the time to tell everybody step-by-step what they should do. I enjoy that maybe someday I will take the leap and body work by the looks of your videos, it takes shit or practice all in all this is why I became a a member ❤
Thank you for one hour and 15 min of good automotive body prep, primer'ing, little bit of bondo'ing and then a very decent paint base coating to be finished off with a very nice Blue Metallic paint job. Happy Birthday to you Jess!!!! Hope you had a great birthday! And Dalton, you are a very patient man with a lot of talent and you do beautiful work! I always enjoy watching your bodywork and painting videos. Cheers from Montreal, Canada.
Dalton, The stance on this car, probably stock stance, looks awesome. It speaks Muscle Car. Great job on the paint. Reminds me of working in my Grandpa's shop, blocking and blocking some more. As you said its not just painting, its the prep that "gets it done".
@@PoleBarnGarage Well it looks good enough to me and it took me about 2 weeks to do it with a kind a cheap paint and a small air compressor as well a cheap paint gun and a lot of color sanding and buffing and people looked shocked when I tell them that and them the next thing they ask is can I paint there car.
I hope this cheers me up. Yesterday my pole barn burned down with my dads 1969 amx inside. And my tools and my lawnmowers and even my phone died to the flames when I went and saved the tractor. And worst of all today is dads birthday and we were gonna take it on a drive cause it was yard drivable
@@PoleBarnGarage honestly there’s not much. Luckily it was insured and I know what I had in there so I can mark down a list so that the insurance guy can accurately get us our payment on it. It’s just a shame on the amx. I’m gonna save up some money and try and find a parts car with a decent interior. If anyone finds one that would be good
@@PoleBarnGarage it’s just like the roasted goat now. But before it was a nice car with an ok interior and paint. And glass. My dad had it since 1983. After he flipped his first one. He tore the 390 drivetrain from his and swapped it over to that car which came from Texas.
So sorry to hear of your misfortune. Just when you think things are going well, life throws something like this along. Hopefully your list will be comprehensive and the adjuster reasonable. Beware of the first low-ball they present. Stuff like that almost always requires a fight.
This is by far my most favourite channel. I like the family feel of the show and Dalton is like hanging out with the cool uncle of the family. Keep doing what you’re doing Dalton. All the best from the UK 👍

One of your best videos. Perhaps the best in my humble opinion. You showed that you don't just do "hack jobs" but actually have a lot of expertise to deliver an impressive result. It was entertaining and educational. Kudos for that. And I was able to listen to your interesting explanations without a "message from the sponsor". Thank you.
I gotta say man, she’s beautiful and I appreciate how honest and in depth u actually teach the process to the ppl who can’t affford the big body shops….. now if I could get my dad to teach me how to spray that would be a cherry on top lol
Very beautiful job man. That little bit of extra work you plan on doing is gonna make this a nice pearl on the road. And I'd like to say I really appreciate you being one of the few channels that's actually going the extra mile on some cars instead of leaving it patina and calling it good. Great to see and know making a nicer shiny car is is within my reach than the those super expensive TV shows and YT channels make it look.
My grandfather had a wrecker business and his 79 Chevy was 2 toned. One of the blues was pretty much that same color. Awesome work, can't wait to see it finished.
I appreciate you keeping it real with your sponsor free builds. Doing what you can yourself, like us average people. No fancy new shops with a crap ton of new tools and a bunch of new bolt on parts. Thanks Dalton
The worst thing about this channel is how under rated it is. 231k subs is BS....it should be up over 1 million subs given how awesome the content is.
We're pretty new to the scene, hopefully folks keep hopping aboard
If you compare the subs the view it's actually really good, some channels have million subs and hardly any views.

I’ve watched you paint a ton of vehicles on the channel, and I always enjoy watching how you work and make decisions. The results are always good for what the vehicle is. Thank you for sharing your experience
Probably my favorite paint job you've done on here. I enjoy that you don't have a pro paint booth, shows that you can do a kick-ass paint job DIY.
Yep, what you know matters more than what you have
It looks fantastic! I love watching you do paint and body work! The only thing missing was your dad and JD helping….
Dalton, you are a very good teacher, and you show how a job can be done at home and you do an excellent job to help your viewers and that's all that counts.
That is one beautiful paint job. It's definitely an eye catcher. That metal flake is spot on! Can't wait to see it restored and back on the road.
Yeah, it looks great! And I would almost bet it looks as good or better than the $16,000 paint job!
It looks much better than the 16k paint job I saw, but that guy got ripped off for sure. I hate shady body guys
I love seeing a channel taking restorations to this level!
Dude... it so cool color. Respect! Very impressive!
GM had some great blues back in the day
That’s a nice color Dalton, you did a good job! You have every right to be proud!
Find a guinea pig car to practice on!
Absolutely beautiful! Awesome job Dalton!!
Thank you!
Man I just appreciate how methodical and easy you explain your work. Good on you.. 👍
Try to keep it accessible for everyone! The pros are great but they tend to take things too far for the average guy
AFRIN Nasel Spray.. clears up that sinudss
Thank you for one hour and 15 min of good automotive body prep, primer'ing, little bit of bondo'ing and then a very decent paint base coating to be finished off with a very nice Blue Metallic paint job. A real get er done right attitude and job! I look forward to seeing it get fully completed. Sponsors are great and very helpful when you can get them. But hey beter not to be under the time restraint and related issues once in a while..... Love your show,,. Keep the personal protective gear on.
Keep up the hard work !!! Dalton, you and your crew are a gift
Much appreciated!
@@PoleBarnGarage you all got a fan forever!
Damn Dalton! I'm jealous. Awesome job!
Thanks!
Beautiful Car - Great Paint Work - 80% Preparation - 20% Execution.. Nice.
I think he's in love with this car..
I do love this car!
Dalton you give yourself to little credit. It is beautiful you do awesome jobs . It is a 10 out of 10.I can't stop telling people how you do miracles . How you revive cars and paint them on a budget and you don't need to spend an arm and a leg. How you are a positive person. When you have lemons you make lemonade. Nothing gets you down. You get it done. 💪💪💪💪💪🩷🩷Thank you for all you do and show us to do.
Just let me say I love everything you do on here but it's your bodywork that impresses me the most .You do the most impossible stuff . You sir are one of a kind . The family atmosphere is unmatched !! The best to you and yours !!
Watched this twice and it still slaps!
Ooooh she's gonna be a looker! After this all it needs is for sale sign in the window at the local car show with an astronomical price.
Run it across mecum with a 75k reserve just to see 😂
Super nice job. Always good content here at Pole Barn Garage ✅✅✅🏁 Thank-you's ❗Happy Birthday Jess 🎂
Happy Birthday from Sweden Jess,, 👍🥰👍
Man that looks AWESOME!!! Thanks for keeping it real unlike other youtube channels. Thats how I painted my 68 Plymouth Satellite in my garage.
Bet it looks great
@@PoleBarnGarage Well it looks good enough to me and it took me about 2 weeks to do it with a kind a cheap paint and a small air compressor as well a cheap paint gun and a lot of color sanding and buffing and people looked shocked when I tell them that and them the next thing they ask is can I paint there car.
Ahhh, man, that's a rough birthday! Bummer.
That's rough. If there's anything I can do let me know
@@PoleBarnGarage honestly there’s not much.
Dalton if everyone put in as much effort as you do, there would be a lot more gorgeous cars back on the road! Can’t wait to see this one put together in full
Happy birthday Jess! You’re an awesome lady!
😲Dalton discovers even MORE uses for self-tappers! 🤣🤣
Liked, shared and commented. Looks better than the drunk chick at the family reunion.🍻🤴🏻🗽 1:15:32
Yee haw
Finally, a new one from you!
Dude. You did a amazing job. You put in a ton of pride in that car , beautiful job . Be proud of your work , you deserve it bud .
It turned out absolutely beautiful. Especially enjoyed your use of self tappers to repair rust pin holes.
Love how the car looks. Great sense of humour & work ethic.
That Paint Looks GREAT!!!! AWESOME JOB Brother Man!!!! I'm So Absolutely Proud of You!!!!
Thank you.
I can't believe how much work is involved with painting cars. Much respect to you painters ❤
l always love watching you and your Dad working on cars.
I gotta say man, she’s beautiful and I appreciate how honest and in depth u actually teach the process to the ppl who can’t affford the big body shops….. now if I could get my dad to teach me how to spray that would be a cherry on top lol
That's like "Bass Boat Flake". It beautiful, Dalton. Hell yeah!
Love the body work series its this amount of work that people dont usually get to see and the way you explain it is really good
I see it’s Canadian tuxedo season again in Missouri.
My grandfather had a wrecker business and his 79 Chevy was 2 toned. One of the blues was pretty much that same color. Awesome work, can't wait to see it finished.
Awesome job Dalton! You did great and your Dad will be proud! Take care man!
I appreciate you keeping it real with your sponsor free builds. Doing what you can yourself, like us average people. No fancy new shops with a crap ton of new tools and a bunch of new bolt on parts. Thanks Dalton
Enjoyed watching the hard work payoff. Be proud. she's a beauty. Thank you
Beautiful job Dalton.
Thanks for sharing the process. 👍🇺🇸👍
