Just found your channel; love it! To give a bit of clarification on the Ohio rules; that ONLY pertains to waters within state parks. Reservoirs, large lakes, navigable rivers, and the Great Lakes do not fall under those restrictions.
Thanks for another lovely production. I recall being knocked over by a sudden gust on Pittwater in my 28ft yacht - a tub of yoghurt flew from the galley to the lee cabin side. But I have wondered whether some of the the Ellyard designs are a bit lightly ballasted,
Hi Andy yes I only have 60 kg in the skeg keel but obviously more weight when I go away for longer 40kg wood, water, etc. But the newer Stornaways will have more ballast. Thanks for watching cheers Paul...ps I hope the yoghurt didn't make too much of a mess!

Hi Michael, apart from the traditional look which suits the design, having a lugsail yawl gives you 3 sail options before reefing. Although the downside is she doesn't point as well, but still fun to sail and I'm not racing. Adding a boom would actually improve the performance of the main but I do have a whisker pole which acts as a temporary boom for sailing downwind. I just don't use it very much. Cheers Paul

What this, Ohio in the "land of the free" you can't sleep aboard your vessel wherever you like, only in places dictated to you by the rulers? I wish we saw the bit where you got a gust a took on some water, those bits of excitement when it happens to others is always fun to see
Thanks ye it's true about Ohio check it out and they have big fines for fishing without a license Luckily (or unluckily for some) the camera wasn't on, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Hi someone suggested it might be laws to prevent the homeless problem in the states, where a lot of people are living aboard on hulks...Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Weird about Ohio. I wonder if it has more to do with "fighting homelessness" than boating. I know in CA and FL and TX we had problems with people living on basically derelict boats. Lots of people also use trailed boats as RV's and some of those end up immobile and making a mess. There's been a big push to keep people from being able to do that a lot of places.
Thanks for the info Thomas, I didn't think about the homeless situation in the States, I just thought it was a nanny state. A sailor from Ohio told me about it and the fines are high and also for fishing without a licence. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise Not quite that bad: Sleeping on Watercraft Prohibited (OAC 1501:47-3-21) No boat operator shall sleep at night aboard a vessel adrift, at anchor, docked, moored, tied-up or beached on Ohio State Park waters except in designated locations. Some parks have designated boat camping areas. Inquire about locations at the specific park office. Go online to ohiodnr.gov/boating to find out more
Those rules about no camping are horrible. I think it's hyper capitalism. They don't want people camping for free. They want to force people to pay a business in order to sleep away from home. They might also fear houseboats, and people living that way full time.

Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Great work. I enjoy your videos. Not sure how to send you photos but no matter.
Thanks for watching, just send the photo to sailingkatelouise@gmail.com cheers Paul
Checklists are your friend. Use a standard one then update it on each cruise with things like 'Curry'.
Thanks Catalina, good to hear from you. How are the animations going for Second life? I might have some work for you in the future email me, cheers Paul
If you don’t mind could you go over your standing rigging. I’m building a ptarmigan 17 and like your arrangement. Happy sails Mac
Sure John email me at sailingkatelouise@gmail.com
Great video, doing it under sail.
Thanks Rauf for watching., cheers Paul
another wonderful video thanks Paul. Love the hack on the eski. Also enjoyed your galley box. Is there a vid on making it? BTW also loved other sailors' boat images. I'm not surprised you got a big response.
Appreciate the effort you put into these Paul. I hope to get down to the WB Festival in Tassie next Feb. Was there this past Feb, but with Covid and off year nothing on. cheers aye
Thanks Col here is the link to the galley box video, cheers Paul ruclips.net/video/g98-flDK24Y/видео.html
Get yourself a chest and/ or head harness for the go pro Paul. For when crewing on the tall ship.
Hi Shane good idea, but I'm not sure the organisers would allow it, we will see. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise You can only ask Paul.Do they have a website? Maybe suggest using some of the footage on it for them??
None of your friends even come close to your peaceful articulation of the experience you are enjoying
Thanks for those kind words and watching, cheers Paul
Another really great video Paul (I just 'found' you with the previous vid) . I there with you. A question ple what is you electric outboard ?
Hi Larry, thank you, it's a Torqueedo 801 made in Germany. This model is over 12 years old and there is now a newer model Torqueedo 2000. They have a Lithium battery or you can run them off standard deep cycle Lead acid batteries. I have 2 x12 volt wheelchair batteries under the bunks. There are quite expensive though, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Wood nuts, lol , other names come to mind but I won’t mention them here lol😂
Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Hey Paul, what weekend are you going to Myall lakes and where might you be launching from. I am visiting the area and if possible would like to catch up with you and your lovely Kate Louise.
Neil McDonald
Hi Neil it was last weekend, events are posted on Sydney Raid on facebook. Do you have a red Hartley? If you do one of the guys saw you at Violet Hill, video coming shortly, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise thanks for your reply. No I’m from Darwin and happened to be in the region and hoped that I might be able to see you all in action. I’m in Tuncurry atm heading towards south west rocks. Slowly returning to Darwin.
What do you like about your mainsail rig?
Hi Michael, apart from the traditional look which suits the design, having a lugsail yawl gives you 3 sail options before reefing. Although the downside is she doesn't point as well, but still fun to sail and I'm not racing. Adding a boom would actually improve the performance of the main but I do have a whisker pole which acts as a temporary boom for sailing downwind. I just don't use it very much. Cheers Paul
Paul ! Do you know if those “Raid” stubby holders are online n can be bought n sent to U.S. ?!! I’m looking but can’t find the source yet ?! If not .. no problem 😉.. Cheers 🥂 Nick.
Hi Nick unfortunately we only had a few made sorry.
Heck ! 😉. No problem Mate. Much appreciated the answer n reply buddy.
Oooh ! Finally got one of those fancy “R” ensign flags.
So sailing ⛵️ my backyard on the Bark Sea 🌊 here as we still work Ooooh so carefully n slowly on my Monty 17. If I find or figure out your E-mail again .. I’m might send off a pix or two. I was also able to buy (second hand) a lovely n colorful assytemic Spinnaker sail.
Cheers 🥂 Nick.
Was that you off Sydney today in the square-rigger?
Not today, my first sail is hopefully Oct 6 but the Duyfken sails twice a week, Thursdays and Saturdays, cheersPaul
What is the ensign you fly from your port shroud?
Hi it's the marine code for the letter R. As we are called the Sydney Raid group we have adopted the R flag. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
What this, Ohio in the "land of the free" you can't sleep aboard your vessel wherever you like, only in places dictated to you by the rulers? I wish we saw the bit where you got a gust a took on some water, those bits of excitement when it happens to others is always fun to see
Thanks ye it's true about Ohio check it out and they have big fines for fishing without a license
Luckily (or unluckily for some) the camera wasn't on, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Almost as good as being there with you. 🙂
Thanks mate, cheers Paul
Put your beers in a sack and drop them to the bottom, nice and cold.
Thanks George, great idea, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
It is such a shame that Jetskis were invented, oh well never mind!
I hope it's only a passing phase but they are banned in some places like Sydney Harbour, but the cops have them. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Excellent, thanks. Wonder what the draconian rules in Ohio are all about. The land of the free, except if you have a boat there....
@@SailingKateLouise Not quite that bad: Sleeping on Watercraft Prohibited (OAC 1501:47-3-21)
No boat operator shall sleep at night aboard a vessel adrift, at anchor,
docked, moored, tied-up or beached on Ohio State Park waters except in
designated locations.
Some parks have designated boat camping areas. Inquire about locations at
the specific park office. Go online to ohiodnr.gov/boating to find out more
5.2 not all about speed for some people
Thant's right, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Those rules about no camping are horrible. I think it's hyper capitalism. They don't want people camping for free. They want to force people to pay a business in order to sleep away from home. They might also fear houseboats, and people living that way full time.
Yes it sounds crazy doesn't it. But apparently it only applies in Parks which borders most of the waterways. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
