    Hi Everyone,
    The EOS R5 offers class-leading autofocus with high-resolution and high frame rate video recording options using the maximum width of the full-frame sensor at high bit rates. Inevitably, this combination of features has potential to generate some significant heat, which will limit recording time.

    While concerns of overheating are speculation only at this time - given no final production EOS R5 models have been released -we have taken many steps to ensure the final product will be able to cope with movie shooting heat. These include:
    • Magnesium alloy was used in the body to dissipate heat away from internal components.
    • An “overheat control” function to reduce heat generation when the camera is in standby.
    • An inbuilt flash warning that alerts to when the internal temperature of the camera rises due to the processing power.
    We're making every effort to be transparent in relation to recording times, see below numbers as a guide.
    When the ambient temperature is 23°C and the camera begins recording from a “cold start,” the approximate maximum shooting time depends on the movie format setting, as follows. (Settings of 30 minutes or more is when recording is stopped and started immediately again after 29 minutes and 59 seconds.)
    • 8KRAW30p: approx. 20 min.
    • 8K30p: approx. 20 min.
    • 4K60p Uncropped: approx. 35 min.
    • 4K High-quality 30p: approx. 30 min.
    • 4K60p Cropped: approx. 25 min.
    Please note: if the temperature of the camera’s circuits rises due to shooting conditions or environment/weather conditions, the maximum duration of recording may be less than shown above.

      is it a stacked sensor or will it suffer banding issues with silent shutter in low light like the Sony A7iii. I love the silent shutter on my A9 at weddings but do not trust my A7iii under artificial light. The r5 and r6 both look great just a shame they came too late for me as I switched to Sony last year after 18 years with canon. Hope they fly off the shelves

    Any chance of R5 getting a 4K - 24/25/30fps unlimited record time via firmware?
    Or alternatively even a 1080P unlimited recording time, or 4K 24/25/30fps recording for 60 - 90 minutes continuously ?
    Many pros & lots of productions need more than 29 minutes ! :(

    • @saintly007
      @saintly007 4 года назад +1

      First off any cameras like the Canon 1DX MKIII or the R5 are restricted to 30 mins recording time as per EU regulations and are classified as still camera with video capable and are subject to a certain tax bracket. Any camera that records more than 30 mins are classified as video cameras are subject to a higher tax bracket. That's why companies like Canon, Sony, Panasonic etc, will put these recording limitation on these cameras. So it's not their fault, they're just following the EU regulation.

    • @kane01337
      @kane01337 4 года назад +1

      Perhaps the better question is - why do the Sony A7RmkIV , A9mkii ,Panasonic S1H, GH5, and more have unlimited video recording capabilities & Canon refuse ????
      Are you aware the 1996 EU Tax regulation on 30minute record limits was removed in late 2018? Sadly Canon made a deliberate decision to keep things restricted.

    Did you try 20fps electronic shutter and was there any rolling shutter or banding? How was the dynamic range compared to Sony in stills?

    • @JamesSimmonsphoto
      @JamesSimmonsphoto 4 года назад +1

      I didn't test it hey, the 12 frames per second was plenty fast enough for me. but most electronic shutters will have rolling shutter to some degree

      James Simmons Thanks man for the answer. I was just wondering about the electronic shutter because 20fps totally silent is actually really good option in many situations. I am a professional photojournalist and I use to shoot with Sony A9 which has like zero rolling shutter effect and minor banding. Hopefully R5 and R6 are the same!

      James Simmons exactly. They just showed us what it would be like to use a camera and not what it would be to use That camera verses another one. If I have a 5diii or a eos R or a A7, what’s the difference? Show me the screen in use. Give it to a real pro using it that doesn’t work for canon. If you think pixel peeping is the difference you should ask more if your camera company.
      Go look at the pro for the EOS R and how similar the canon videos are from the “ambassadors”. I have two and a Sony.... I trust the Sony for paid work, I enjoy shooting with my R’s.
