Let's make Teto sing! - A basic UTAU tutorial

- This is a very basic tutorial, it's basicly just how to download the program and make it sing. Of course there's much more to this than that, but we'll talk about that some other time. UTAU is a little confusing at first, but don't let it overwhelm you ;)
I'm RuRi and I hope you like my first tutorial! :)
I hope you can understand what I'm trying to communicate...English is obviously not my native language, so maybe I should have written a script for this instead of just recording oTL

How'd you get it to work? I use hirigana and even downloaded the cvvc auto converter, but Teto still makes no sound

some weird shizz happened i installed every thing except teto was named in gibberish lettering and when i tried to test her voice it sounded nothing like Teto but like a real person -that shizz sp00ked me-

you probably need to change your locale to japanese

When I downloaded Teto and wanted to use her, I noticed that every, EVERY japanese symbol turned into things like "æ, ė, ó...". I can use a japanese keyboard, but not a single UTAU. Not even the default voice... And when I start UTAU there isn't a single Katakana, Hiragana or Kanji just "ò, ã, ê..." What should I do???
what most likely happened is the language settings. in order for UTAU to work, the lyrics have to be in japanese (obviously) did you copy and paste it? if so, the browser you used has to be in "japanese". its all in english, but when you paste it it should then make sound. i had the same issue as you
You probably need to change your computer into the Japanese locale

I can't seem to hear Teto singing. My speaker is on and I did everything correctly. not sure whats wrong

Everything works fine, until she has to sing, there is no sign of sound, how do I fix this?
Can your pc handle it?
you need to have your pc locale set to Japanese, and you need to type the lyrics you want utau to sing in the Japanese alphabet. If you're still having trouble, i recommend uninstalling utau then reinstalling it once your locale is set to Japanese.

So I did everything you did, and I can see that it's being played, yet I can't hear Teto saying anything.

That’s probably because you need Japanese symbols instead of romaji. There’s also a plug-in that changes Japanese romaji to hiragana, for example: konichiwa kasane teto desu! To: こんにちは、重音テトです！(sorry for the late reply I just found this video).

I wanted to thank you for making this tutorial. I just downloaded an UTAU and I couldn't get it to make a sound, and I finally just got it to say "a" after 3 hours and this video. Thank you.

Yeah. The first time I downloaded it I could get Ritsu's sample to make a sound. But when I tried notes I couldn't hear anything. And I know it's not because of my language not being Japanese, I didn't need to mess with that. I've already downloaded the program with the English patch before. I didn't do anything with the files. Opening UTAU was the first thing I did.
how did you do to make 7zip supporting japanese characters?! When I open the archive, the files are in gibberish and ends up being unusable while i'm opening it with 7zip! :'(
can you add a link to a place to fnd USTs because the forum has changed a lot and so its difficult to find more than one
Thanks for this introduction to Utau. I really studied and followed everything you covered to understand the very basics you mention here. I know very little about music and song composition but Vocaloid and Utau got me interested, so I am glad that your introduction was simple enough for me to understand. I can see a long and difficult road ahead but at least from here I can begin to see if this is something I am capable of eventually using properly.
Yeah I rekin so! I have a few covers on my chanel, which I had a lot of fun making back in the day. I wish I had time for more, and still dream of covers I'd like to do and how I'd do it, though spare time in my life has diminished for now. I learned a lot about UTAU, music theory, video creation and animation (starting from knowing nothing at all) in my journey and I actually did many more covers that are not uploaded to the internet. ERROR365 Do you know how to use the English voicebank? (I.e. Do you know how to insert the English lyrics?) Or is it another problem?
First of all: Thanks. Now to your question. First you have to install/activate the Japanese language pack. Windows Vista and 7 will probably already have it, so you'll just have to activete it, on WinXP you might have to install it first. Then you'll find the letters JP along where it says EN on the lower right of your screen. Click on it. Now click on the letter A that should appear. Select the first option (ひらがな）。Now you can type in hiragana. You'll get the hang of it, eventually.

Harukaa Change your system Locale to Japanese. If that doesn't work, I can link you to a romaji Teto, and Momo and Defoko.
***** Ok, I have seen alot of that. Ok first of all I have Windows 8 as an OS. I look in control panel>clock,language,region>language
ok there it is a list that has English. I added Japanese to it.
It says that english is in the highest priority of language and that I could change the priorites. Ok and I changed it to Japanese as the highest one, but it doesnt have anything to do with it!!
So I do not where the system locale is nor do i have it on windows 8
What do I do???
Harukaa Windows 8 does have it. I have it and Teto works fine. Google "How to change System Locale in Windows 8/8.1" And it should tell you. Otherwise I can distribute the romaji voicebanks.

The tutorial may be a bit outdated, but it is still very helpful to see all steps demonstrated. Teto does not sing yet on my computer - because the song I downloaded is in Romaji. So it's another voice. Yet. :-) Many thanks!
A lot of people got this problem... We can't hear Teto song, what should we do? I downloaded Utau (in English) and I've got Teto's voicebank (in English) but if I write something down and push the play butten it won't make any sound. (sorry for my bad English.)

Can somebody help me? My Windows is for some reason changing names of voicebank files and my UTAU software can actually use only files with names in hiragana. That means I can´t get working any voicebank. Only voicebank that I made to work was Uta. I simply changed corrupted file names into hiragana, but what to do with english voicebanks or voicebanks with different file system?
I set my location to Japan but when I downloaded Teto it came up as gibberish....would anyone happen to know how I could fix this problem?
For some reason when I try to open it it doesn't show up with the piano lookin thing it shows up with this other thing idk Japanese so I can't really tell it would be great if you could help me out on this

Hi, I'm having a bit of a problem using the USTs, the UST wont go onto the UTAU Program and the song will not show on UTAU. Is there a specific user of the USTs that has the songs I can use for Teto?
Whe I put the voice bank into the voice folder, it doesnt show up. Can anyone help?
i have a few problems first of ive downloaded it and the uta(deffoco) doesnt make a sound and when i try change it to teto it says find wave file or something like that and and none wont come up and its just fustraiting me
I did everything I was supposed to but first of all yes I'm using hiragana but no sounds coming from Teto and even after i installed the English patch and added it to the UTAU only some stuff was in English (everything that was in English when installed) but most of it was just in gibberish what's going on? I heard there was another way to make Teto sing but It's in the settings and I cant read anything since its all in gibberish. I thought I might need to download Japanese onto my computer with the settings and stuff but it wont even let me type in Japanese for some reason it just says "Japanese not ready to operate" and I don't know why so I thought i'd use translate. But yea no sounds and still complete gibberish what do I do?
I'm starting my out for the first time. This video is really really helpful :DDD

Well, with Teto (and depending on which other voicebanks you used) you'd have to input the lyrics in hiragana, Then, you have to select the notes you want it to play, rightclick them and select "render and play".

i tried to download utaureni's.usts but the link is no longer available, should i donwload another one? which one?
I'm getting red exclamation marks after I had installed a second voice bank. The first one being English and the next Japanese. What can I do to fix this?
I did make sure that Teto's voice bank was in the voice folder, however, when I go to project property, it doesn't show up, and I tried searching for it in project property, and it doesn't show up there either.
so I'm trying to load a voicebank (bedsides defoko) onto utau to use. However the program isn't reconignzing the ritsu or teto banks I downloaded. Unlike when teto's voicebank was uploaded on this video the program only lets me upload syllables out of the bank's folder, not the entire voicebank. It doesn't work when I try to load the compressed file version either. do I have to change the file type or something? I am using the latest version 4.17 that does not have a "voice" folder. Please Help!

i downloaded the teto voicebank but all the folder had was text documents with codes in it, and a bitmap picture of teto... i have no idea what to do .-.
Okay, can you make some screebshots for me of the error message itself, your utau folder, the project property settings and the settings in utaus options menue (or a video of all those)?

Can anybody help me? I downloaded UTAU but it doesn't seem to display any language, it just has different simbols, therefore I can't even use the default singer, I also downloaded a singer (it was Ritsu though) and I can't added, I'm pretty much stuck here ._.

i've got UTAU downloaded and running but when i tried to download the voice bank off of the wiki it came up with a message saying go to the new utau wiki and i can't find a thing on there even though the message said its easier to use dose anyone know how to find the voice banks on the new wiki??? please someone help me ^ - ^

Where did you go to download your UST? Something form...? I didn't get it- nor could I see the web address.

Why is it that almost all the folders are missing, i can't do it like put the voicebank in the voice folder. there isnt any voice folder, and also, my computer wouldnt allow me to transfer the folders, there are a lot of missing folders tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Hi! Nice tutorial. But I have a problem. When I play the ust I can't hear anything. I know I need Midi, but I can't find where to download it. I downloaded some kind Yamaha usb-Midi driver but It says that I need to connect a instrument or something. What do I do?

I can't get Defoko or any other singers to work... And I've followed all the steps. It's also refusing to add different voicebanks for some reason.
I downloaded a ust for Black Rock Shooter and tried to make an UTAUloid other than Defoko sing it. None of them worked, so I used Defoko and she only sings some of the notes. Help?
I have the same problem, but it just appears and then disappears so you can't see what the error is. After that it plays with no sound.

I just installed Utau and I try to do it using KAI KIM voice bank. When I put the UST and play it, there is no voice of him. What could possibly happen? Help please

Whenever I downloaded a ust, opened it, and set the voicebank as Teto and clicked ok, a window appears and it'd likely an error. It's in Japanese, but all I know it says is 2.
I extract her voice back into the voice page, did what you said after that but I press sample and all I get is a Error Ding...

I've got a bit of a problem. I downloaded everything and did it all right, but I can't hear Teto when I play the song. I got a ust and everything! I can see it all, but I can't hear anything! No, my earbuds are not broken, they're working fine! I just can't hear anything from the program!
I tried to open the program again because I accidentally closed it, but an error message pops up saying 'Subscript out of range' like, 200 times. And the text is all weird. Anyone?

I need help. I went on the ust website that you used and were no ust's. So I went on a different website to find a Ust and when I installed that ust the program didn't make a sound.

Okay, I'm watching this for like the thousandth time, but I can't get mine to work. Even though this video was published nearly 4 years ago, I'm making sure that I am downloading the right files. I even downloaded the song I want her to sing, but it still won't work. I'm thinking that it has something to do with the type of device I am currently using. I am using a 2-in-1 tablet-laptop. I downloaded an app so that I would have file folders to put the UTAU program and voicebank in, but I can't open the program. Any solutions? ;-;

@9alili I got the same problem you have to got to the (p) the click on (r) then click on the thing at the bottom of info click the three dots choose your utau then go to where it says append and rasample and look fpr the plugins
I installed it multiple times and done everything like you'd show us ... everything works properly until I want to start. It always has "File load error" with any voicebank. No sound.
Um. When I downloaded mine, it didn't come with a folder. It just came with a program. Have I done something wrong?

Have you set your locale to japanese guys? Because utau in my computer works and if you have a hirigana utau and you put romanji letters it won't work like using hirigana letters for a romanji utau
Uhh, I have a question about usts...I really dunno how to use them, I have Ruko's voicebank and just downloaded Teto's...do you have to use certain usts with certain UTAU's? I downloaded a ust for Judgement of Corruption but when I tried to open it, nothing showed up and for some reason it set my voicebank back to the default instead of Ruko...help please?

-So like, I've been trying to fix the folders for two days now after watching up to the voicebank part (where you put Teto's voicebank into the voicebank folder for the... You know what i mean) and after trying and opening it, Everything is all just gibberish. It's not english, japanese or anything else. If i tried to play the sample voice (defoko's?) it just pop ups an error message. if I downloaded the most recent ver. of the program, I'll literally only get the program. UTAU works ... but when I try to click play I can't hear anything .... and when I export the wav file I can't hear anything .. I don't understand
