- I'm making good progress. The Envoy is very close to being back on the road. Stay tuned for future installments.
After an initial diagnosis of low oil pressure with a manual pressure gauge in my 2004 GMC Envoy (~255,000 miles), I decided to investigate the oil pickup tube. Come to find out, it was about 90% clogged! This is how I fixed it.

100% rust free vehicle. Imagine that job with a heavy layer of rust everywhere.
I can only imagine!
I would pay you to work on my vehicle. As most don’t care and not any I can trust. Great job doing this on your own, this is above my skill level 😅 God help it not be too much.
Thank you.
been chasing a pressure problem for a few weeks...installed a mechanical gauge started the engine gauge went to 60psi...as the engine warmed up gauge slowly dropped to 0 while the dash gauge showed 40psi!!..no "bad" engine noises..shut off car restarted gauge went to 25psi then slowly dropped to 0...
1)Did a 5 min motor flush.
2)I drained the oil added 1 gallon of parts/carb cleaner thru the dipstick tube let sit for 2 hours.
3) replaced the oil pressure sending unit.
4) replaced the stepper motors.
Also replace the VVT solenoid..had a code set and cam position sensor..
I am now going to replace the oil pump..and from what I have found out there are 2 designs..design one will allow you to use the old pick up and timing cover...design 2 you have to buy a new tube and timing cover..
Amazing how rust free the frame is on your truck. I'm in rust belt USA.
Eric Pfiffner Thanks. It's a North Carolina car.
I have same problem with my oil pressure dropping, what time can I drop my trailblazer off ?
🤣🤣🤣👍🏻
Great video but above my mechanical abilities !
GOD Bless and thank you for sharing your video !
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Anytime...but it's gonna cost you 🤣🤣
Hello Kevin, what method did you use to get the harmonic balancer bolt loose without the balancer turning? Thanks!
Cameron Lawrence, I used a tool similar to this one m.northerntool.com/products/shop~tools~product_200677477_200677477?adv=false
I just R+R'd a 4.2 in a 2003 trailblazer (blown head gasket, rod knock), and the 'new' engine must have a plugged pickup too. I'm wondering if a gallon of parts cleaner solvent in the oil pan for a few days may solve the issue. I'll report back!
BTW my differential was seized in the oil pan in both the junkyard engine and the old one. Ended up smashing it repeatedly with a BFH and 2x4 and wd40 on the rear end of the housing to break it loose. Not fun, even with both engines on end on the garage floor. I can only imagine trying to remove that nonsense still in the vehicle.
It would be worth a shot. Just don't over fill the oil pan with parts cleaner, I wouldn't want that stuff eating the gaskets.
Kevin great job on the series. I'm hoping I don't have to do this but you never know. I am near Wake Forest how close are you?
Thank you. It was definitely a learning experience. I'm about 20 miles southeast of Raleigh. I have some relatives that live up that way off Purnell Road.
As do we live off Purnell Rd, small world.
Hello from Russia. It was possible not to buy the pump together with a front cover, and to buy oil pump repair kit?
Yes it is possible.
@@KevinNadeau Спасибо =) (thanks)
That tool is a bit short and thick I rented and doesn’t work for the trailblazer
I had to buy a puller specific for this truck. The one from the car parts store didn't work for me either.
@@KevinNadeau I bought the one from Oreilly two ton with flat jaws it work
Kevin after watching you video's first time fast. Second time thoroughly..You do incredible work. Meticulous and to the point. These engineers that design these things to make our lives miserable when we have to do repairs get pensions. Go figure.
I have a few questions. My Envoy is a 2005 with 242000. It mint and I love it. How ever I used to rebuild and work when I was a kid. Teens-40's I don't have the time or the patients for this one I think. So my question is????
1-Should I pay someone to do the repair?
2-Get rid of the vehicle?
I love it. One of the best SUV's I have ever owned. Heavy..Handles great. Good work truck too for my tools. Plus my daughter and her friends have plenty of room when I pick them up from schoo.
You thoughts would be greatly appreciated...
Do you think you will be able to get another 100K after this great repair you just did. I had to replace my Tranny at 179K I put a a used one in from a Salvage/Junk/Recycled auto parts distributor. Did it myself the Tranny cost me 660 plus 100 for 12 month warranty.
TY...SKIP!
I was debating whether or not to pay someone or get rid of my car too. I decided to do the work myself to save a ton of money, plus at 250k miles, I'm not sure how much I'd get for my car. It took me 4 weekends to do this repair, partly because I either didn't have the correct tools or I broke parts and had to order new.
My personal feeling is that if you're able to fix your own car, go for it. If not, you can find lower mileage Trailblazers/Envoys out there for relatively low cost.
I had to rebuild the valve body on my tranny because it was not shifting from 2-3 properly. Again for me, I have invested a lot of my own time and money into my car to keep it running, so I am going to drive it as long as it'll keep going. I'm hoping to get at least another 50k-75k miles out of it. My father-in-law has a 2004 Chevy van with 400k on it and I'm trying to catch up to him.
Good luck with your truck.
Thank you for your prompt reply. Your son has a dad to be proud of. Now for this GM stuff I hear you on doing the repairs yourself as I have done most of mine. I usually get HIGH 200K to 300K out of them but I don't know...I have no rust on the frame or body. New England weather and storage. GO figure. But I cannot justify what used ones are going for...Not Envoy but SUV or Pickup. 100K 8 Years 18K-22K. I will figure this out or be making a DUKES of Hazard Video of my ENVOY and posting it. Best man and thanks again!
