The "90% Rule" is a gem. I participated in an executive coaching program for a couple of years, to learn how to be a more effective business leader. The first rule they taught us was that, "80% good is good enough 80% of the time!" Bottom line, don't suffer from the 'paralysis of analysis.' 80-90% good keeps the project moving forward. Also, most people wouldn't know-- or appreciate-- the difference between 80% good and 100%! So don't kill yourself.
A lot of great advice for all worship musicians. As a guitarist, I sometimes find myself going down the "perfection of my sound" rabbit hole. I spend more time tweaking my effects than I do working out my part. 90% rule for me from now on!
I've got 8 effects at my feet. I use one overdrive for 90% of my time playing, plus an "always-on" subtle delay which nobody perceives. In the last few years I've been making most of my sound adjustments with right hand or left hand technique, instead of effects. Strings are very responsive to your hands, and so is an amp "on-the-edge-of-breakup."
Thanks David and fully with you. Would like to add, don‘t try too hard to swim in mainstream way of playing your worship music to God. All good to use patches, sound like pop, play those songs heard all over; but also listen to what God has given YOU and let it flow. Express God within you. Not to show off, but to invest yourself for HIM. - Our God is GREAT! Praise JESUS!

@DavcomBass So that's why our church has been doing so bad in the last few years - we don't own any Nords!
Thanks David for these really good tips.
