What a sweet comment! Thanks. I haven't shared much personal information, but Joan is the love of my life. She could make friends with a raging bobcat. We were visiting vineyards yesterday and folks would hug her when we left like they were life long friends. We dated through senior high school and 45 years ago, married at 18. Crazy huh!? It easy to be sweet to such a sweet lady. Jerry....
We've had one a few years. It was made before they came up with the small panel you leave in the track that can be rolled up in the awning. Still works Great! We use a fan blowing from one end of awning toward other end. Cools the air down and helps keep the flies away.
@@iLoveRVlife I was like a kid in a candy store when my air lift air suspension came in and installed this week. No more hitch springs just hook up and go, they'll help even if I go to a fifth wheel.
We’ve had air lift for a while. We also installed the onboard compressor. You’ll notice a big difference especially on the rougher roads and finding that pressure the evens out the bumps and nasty bridge access.
We enjoyed your site so much. I also love my wife as much as you. You show so much respect toward your wife. It's nice. Now we also love to watch your video.
Great “how to “Jerry & Joan! I appreciate your video’s. Your projects are always well thought out and straight forward. After watching your videos I always feel like I’m ready for a new project myself! Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and adventures with us
Wow Latada! Thanks for the kind comment. We share these in hopes that others may have similar needs, but unsure of the process. Really glad we're able to help. Jerry...
Jerry, in order to have an OSHA approved picnic table for climbing, you have to install handrails, a safety net and you need to be tied off to something secure and higher to contain your fall! lol
I ordered us one yesterday. We leave for the beach next week. Thanks as always for the help with products and install. Jerry you are on my top go to list on how to get it done and with product to use to get it done. :) Gonna work on the tie down issue tomorrow.
That’s great Melinda. It makes a big difference. We were at the beach last June. The shade was a game changer during the bright morning sun. Have fun at the beach!
Not so easy for us. Have a band around the accessorie slot have to remove on each end. We were told by an installer in the RV park have that slot up to 12 o’clock to roll up correctly. Need a ladder. Later.
Interesting. I had a band or cap on the end too. Not sure if the same. Didn’t have to remove. The plastic tube is very flexible and I could bend and slide in place.
Wanted to install this on my camper and your video was the first that popped up. Great job! No need to watch other videos. The carefree product looks like the one to get.
We just ordered one a couple of days ago. It hasn't arrived yet. I hope it is as easy for us as it was for you, and love it as much as you do. It looks like it should do the trick for a little more shade. Thanks for sharing the install.
Hi William. Pretty simple, just slide in the track. Of course the picnic table was handy 😏. It’s a game changer. Get to enjoy the sitting area under the awning on sunny days plus keeps 5th wheel cooler.
@@iLoveRVlife I already put my awning down to see how much of a top piece we needed to be able to zip the bottom on without a ladder or picnic table, and still allowed extra to slant it out at the bottom. I'm sure we will like it and it should easy to use.
It’s a great system Sharon. We use all the time. Great add when in a location where the sun is cooking the sitting area under the awning. Once set up, a couple minutes to zip on or off.
Glad we could share Ritchie. This is a great addition when you have bright sun in the mornings or evenings that are beating down on the side of the RV. This gave us our awning area back.
Watched your video this past summer and really liked your video on the sun screens that we bought 2 for our 5th wheel. We live in California and we had a brutal summer and with the shadesreens it really made a big difference. Thanks for all your videos 👍
Agree Joe. I did take mine down for the day when the remnant of the hurricane came through the mountains this week. Wasn't needed, but one of those "rather safe than sorry" things. Jerry....
Thank you. I got a sunscreen and there were no instructions with it. I was like "how in the heck am I supposed to put this in?" This was the answer I was looking for. Literally only took me a few minutes and done.
Thanks a bunch Crystal. This thing is great if you have rising or setting sun beating the side of the camper. Enjoy the lights. We’ve been using the dickens out of ours for the last month or so.
you and joan are adorable! thank you for the informative video on your shade....i have subscribed to your channel. my husband and i have been camping for about 5 yrs now with our kids and dogs.
Fantastic awning shade cover from Carefree Jerry and Joan! We would love to invest in one of these. Great to see how easy it was to install. We've been looking at and wanting to invest in these items as well, for quite a while. Blessings to you and your family Joan and Jerry!
We purchased one at the end of season on clearance and have not put it on yet but will be doing so this weekend as we are headed to Florida and will need it .
Most electric awnings have an indented slot in the top of the end fixtures. If you continue unrolling the awning, past it's full extension, it will start rolling back up in the opposite direction. Stop it just as the accessory slot is lined up with these indentations, and it will make feeding the screen into the slot much easier. Once it is in place, simply retract the awning back to it's original fully extended position. Hope that makes sense.
I’m not saying Joan is height challenged but you may have waited for one of the boys., 😊 but you got it done. I had to look up this old video so I could order the same thing. Whenever it is time to buy something my wife says, “what does Jerry say”. 👍
Joan’s sticks with me on these things. Glad you found it. We list many of the items we use with a linked video on our web site. If you’re looking for something in the future check our site at www.ilovervlife.com/rv-accessories/
Good video. Thank you. I love it , what do those cost? Here's an idea. Use coffee cans filled with concrete with a handle and use that as your anchor on both pavement and grass with your bungee cord.
It does help keep the front of the awning in place. The concern with the gusts , especially if sever, is the stress on the fabric attached to the RV. If too strong it could tear.
Thank you for making this video. I assume you've been using the shade screen for a few years now based on the date of this video. Have you ever felt the need (or want) to get a side screen to go along with what you have?
We used ours last weekend it was amazing how much cooler it made it. We were camped at Assateague state park there are no tree 🌳 on the beach for shade.
Jerry nice product, thanks for sharing. I have a suggestion on the stakes. Ace hardware 2-2.5 gallon buckets filled with water holds awning, shades etc wonderfully and when leaving you can drown out the campfire with the water. Maybe lube that track for the zipper first, (old candle) so it won't stain your awning...Happy camping
Hi Joesph. I checked out the company's website. They had instructions. I also made sure the end roller had the accessory slot and felt pretty sure all would work. Jerry...
Thanks a bunch. I wish this grill was still sold. Unfortunately, Camco dropped it from their line. After a number of years of heavy use, we couldn’t find parts. A little over a year ago we bought a new Char-Broil Grill-to-Go amzn.to/38XCbml We’ve been for over a years and happy with the performance. One note, these small grills tend to run a little hot. We like the simplicity of a portable gas grill. Easy set up and store. Cooking in minutes.
What campground were you staying in? We're in Alabama and love to camp in Georgia. Thanks for the video as we are looking at getting a shade awning also.
Can you keep that attached and roll up the entire shade inside your awning that way tour not always having to mess with the zipping and unzipping of the lower half? I’m thinking more about if a storm came up and wind started picking up fast and you needed to get the awning in ASAP. Just undo the bunker cords and roll it up.
Hi Ken. Most of the items you see in our videos are purchased through Amazon. Check out our web site at www.ilovervlife.com/rv-accessories/ and we have links for each item.
Hi Oma. Joan and I spent 2 months at the beach this year. For no good reason, I put off the purchase, yet would have enjoyed our spot so much more. It's made a big difference. On note, this is about 50% blocking. Still have sun and views, but breaks the rays and reduces the heat. Jerry...
I hope your going to camp in Southern Az in the winter. Up here in Northern Az it is cold and snowed 27 inches this year (yikes) and we're not in Flagstaff but at 5700 ft.
If all goes well, we should be in AZ the beginning of October. At least that’s the plans for now. It’s been a while since I’ve been to the state. Really excited about the visit. And this Georgian definitely hopes we miss the snow season :)
Now that you have put some mileage on this awning shade, what are your thoughts, and/or, recommendations? Do you like the zipper attachment feature better than hooks? Have you changed the anchoring system? Any tears or defects? Thanks.
Hi Ted. No complaints. We don’t use every week, only when we have little shade and direct sun. 10 months later, it still looks new. The zipper is heavy duty and has held up well. Take up and down in minutes. No tears, no defects. Still using the same anchors. I don’t trust in high winds. More for my awning, but again I can take down in minutes if needed.
Love the dog run pegs that is brilliant! Also how does it come down? Does the top part wind up inside the awening? Or do you need to take the whole thing down every time?
Thanks. Came up with the idea of the pegs from our beach time. We use these and a few long bungee cords to hold the 12' pop up awning in that soft sand to keep it from blowing away. For the awning, you unzip, fold the lower section and toss in the storage bag. Took less than 5 minutes by myself. Much easier that trying to fold a fitted sheet. This is the beauty about the whole system. The top part is light weigh, has little to no bulk and rolls up with the awning with no issues. Was much, much easier than expected. Jerry...
i have bought one of theses but it dont have the zipper. i have not installed it yet, but was wondering if it rolls up inside the awing ? or do you have to slide it out to remove it every time? thanks just wondering
Interesting video thanks. I live in a cedar Creek Cottage and my awning is electric. It runs slow and i cannot find out how to extend it and its HOT here, VERY HOT! Can you suggest what this widow does to fix thanks
Hi Noleen. Unfortunately this will not help the speed of the electric motor on the awning. We had something similar happen several years ago and had to replace the motor. With the awning extended, this provides additional shade. Great if you’re parked where the sun rises or sets on the awning side of the RV. Was invaluable when we camped in Florida for a couple of months.
Thanks for this video, Jerry. We have one of those awnings that automatically retract when the winds get too high. I guess we have to be on the lookout for that if the shade is attached!
Wow i have the one piece Tentpronic shade and never had a hard time sliding it through the channel by myself. Maybe you need to clean your channel and spray some silicon in it to make it easier?
Were did you take your measurements from. Edge to edge of the fabric width of the awning it self, or from the inside of the end caps at the ends of the awning tube. Also was it the same size of your awning so it matched up to the edge of your awning or was it smaller or bigger the the awning. Thanks Chuck.
Hi Chuck. I measured edge to edge of fabric. The screen ended up being about 4" shorted than the awning (2" on both sides). If you look at the video at 15:33, you'll see the slight inset. Jerry...
Just unzip the bottom 3/4ths of the awning and fold into the storage bag. The top section rolls up with the awning. Adds very little bulk. Once installed, takes minutes to set up and take down.
Depends on the severity of the storm. If the wind isn’t too aggressive, we leave out. If we know a really bad storm is coming, we unzip the bottom and roll in. Takes less than 30 seconds and about that quick to put back in place.
I like to use the accessory rail for hooks that hang our patio lights. That said, I'm now looking for one of these shades that can be hung with hooks. Being close to N. GA, I'd love to know which camp ground that is and maybe check it out. Can you share?
Ours has two or three rails. May want to check yours. Plus the small amount that remains when you unzip the lower part adds not bulk or hampers retracting the awning. The campground is Leisure Acres Campground in Cleveland GA minutes from Helen and Dahlonega.
Do these awnings help with the heat inside your trailer when they are down? We are living in a park model (technically an RV) in a very hot area because our whole town burned in the fires last year and there is no regular housing. We are already cooking in here, with 3 window A/Cs- and we haven't hit anywhere near our hottest season (where it doesn't cool down at night)- right now overnight lows are around 70 degrees.
Definitely helps. It diffuses the intensity of the sun. You notice in the video the left side is still exposed so we still get some direct sunlight. Couple tips. Make sure your roof is clean. If it’s gotten black and dirty over time, giving a good wash will help reflect the sun. Also, on the side taking the direct sun. During that period of the day, cut some reflectix to fit the windows an place shiny side facing out. That will help some.
@@iLoveRVlife Its supposed to be 103 here today, I did cut and place some reflectix in the afternoon sun facing windows! We plucked up some coolaroo sails we are planning on attempting to rig up since we are semi-permanent settled and they are inexpensive. Thank you again!
How about using some silicone spray in the track first? What do you do if the wind kicks up and you need to get the awning rolled up quickly? Can you leave the short piece on? I noticed your grill. Do you have a video on it? Thanks JR
Hi JR. Good point on the silicone. Thought about that, but I wanted a small amount of friction to keep the shade in place. It really wasn't difficult to slide. Was just being a little extra careful. We had gusty wind this week from the remnants of the Gulf storm. Took less than 5 minutes to unzip, fold, store and the top section rolled up with no issue. It's thin and didn't add any bulk or stress on awning mechanics. On the grill. Really like it. It's an Olympian 5500 Professional. Not your least costly option, but bought after frustration when our 2nd camping style grill died in 2 years. We've used this for 2 years. Great small grill. I'll make a video later this week. Here's a link for the grill amzn.to/2CdZadF. Jerry...
I purchased that same grill. Can't remember if I did it through your Amazon or Wounded Warrior's. We have not used it yet. We needed a grill that would hook up to our propane tank that is low pressure. Thanks for the info.
Leisure Acres just outside of Cleveland. Super nice people and love the location to all the fun stuff around the Georgia foothills. A couple years old, but a few highlights. ruclips.net/video/t9iXE8J5gtI/видео.html
I’m on the same page as you are regarding the dog “run”/stake. Yuck! Don’t like them. Anyway…great video. I just received my shade a couple weeks ago. Love it! I live in Florida and do a lot of weekend camping so I’ll use this a lot!!
Thanks for putting out this video. I've been thinking about getting one for awhile. Was it easy to fold back up and get back in the storage bag? Also looking forward to the grill video. I haven't had much luck finding one that hooks up to the low pressure propane supply valve.
Hi Carl. I'll have the grill video up later this week. Its steak night! Folding the lower half and placing back in the bag was a breeze. With the remnants of the hurricane coming through the mountains this week, I unzipped, folded and stored in 5 minutes. And did it by myself. With an extra set of hand could have done it in half the time. Top half rolled up in the awning with no issues. Putting it back yesterday morning, another 5 minutes. It's turned out to be a great addition to our outdoor space. Jerry...
@iLoveRVlife you imply there is something wrong with a tether for a dog in your video. You make it sound inhumane, but decline to specify how you might handle it.
Hi Tim. Good question and I should have addressed in the video. Just unzip the lower two-thirds and store, then just retract the awning as usual. The top portion is light weight and adds little to no mass to the awning. Jerry...

Great screen. Held up well. Benefit is the ease to add and take down to travel. Takes minutes.
Thanks!
👍
Good job
Thanks Gary.
Cool. I really the dog run screws and bungie. Thanks great video
Thanks a bunch..
Jerry I want to know where you purchased those chairs with the little table,,,
Hi Ken. Most of the items you see in our videos are purchased through Amazon. Check out our web site at www.ilovervlife.com/rv-accessories/ and we have links for each item.
👋🏻Florida☀️🏝🇺🇸Your the Martha Stewart of RVing! Hope all is well.
Wow Dennis, that's great. Maybe we should add our RV cooking show next! We have a great recipe for InstaPot oriental pork 😊 Jerry...
Wait a minute...to qualify as a Martha Stewart stand-in one must be qualified. Jerry, do you have jail time?
Oh my goodness Charles. I failed on this point. 🙄
Oma and I added one of these some time ago. Did not use it much up to this point. However we plant to use it frequently this winter in Arizona.
I Love RV Life Thank you.
Jerry...
We have stayed at that campground. Caught a couple of nice size catfish in the pond.
It’s our “escape” campground. One of our favorite areas.
I purchased this item but my awning has the light strip. I didn't notice that on your video. Is it still possible to install this?
Maybe Sharon. The roller we have has multiples slots. If there’s another slot for the top of the screen, shouldn’t be an issue.
What northern Georgia campground was this video at?
We were at Leisure Acres.
i have bought one of theses but it dont have the zipper. i have not installed it yet, but was wondering if it rolls up inside the awing ? or do you have to slide it out to remove it every time? thanks just wondering
I’d be concerned rolling a full screen with the awning. Would add quite a bit of bulk to the roller.
@@iLoveRVlife Thanks for the reply, my thoughts also.
Thank you Sir!
I’m Bill Byrd. The 74 was my football number, not my age. Although I am catching up to it!!!
Haha. Gotcha.
Thanks for this video, Jerry. We have one of those awnings that automatically retract when the winds get too high. I guess we have to be on the lookout for that if the shade is attached!
Thomas, I haven’t looked that type. Most have a switch that bypasses the auto retract. Also, the shade needs a track on the awning to install.
Wow i have the one piece Tentpronic shade and never had a hard time sliding it through the channel by myself. Maybe you need to clean your channel and spray some silicon in it to make it easier?
Some are just a little tight. Next I did with a Dawn. Slipped right in.
Hello, I have a question , what size is your shade screen, I see 15 ft in length on Amazon . Our awning is 17 ft long, Do we get the 15 ft shade ??
Kat, ours is the 15x9. Next jump is 19’. You’ll be 12” short on both ends once centered, but should give you the shade needed.
Do you just unzip the big piece, and leave the short piece in the slot, and it rolls up with the main awning?
I do. I doesn’t add any bulk to the awning when rolled up.
Jerry...
Thanks Jerry.
Does rain penetrate or run off this fabric when used as you show it?
Hi John. It does.
Jerry, does this roll up with the awning for storage or do you need to remove it each time you use it?
Just unzip the bottom 3/4ths of the awning and fold into the storage bag. The top section rolls up with the awning. Adds very little bulk. Once installed, takes minutes to set up and take down.
What happens if a storm blows in and you want to retract awning real quick? Can you wrap shade up with awning or need to remove it first?
Depends on the severity of the storm. If the wind isn’t too aggressive, we leave out. If we know a really bad storm is coming, we unzip the bottom and roll in. Takes less than 30 seconds and about that quick to put back in place.
Can I still use this and slide it on if my awnings lights are on the awning side?
Depends on the roller. Most have multiple slots and the top panel can be used in one of the unused.
Best part @12:23 .. the sound of satisfaction 🤣
Absolutely!
Larry wants to know if Joan comes with the awning
Haha! Nope. She a keeper for sure.
My awning has covered ends. How would I get it fed into the slot
The only was this can be installed is using slots found in the end roller.
Hi jerry. Will the zipper portion roll up with the awning ? Thanks
It does Ben. No issues rolling this part up with the awning.
@@iLoveRVlife Thank you sir. Im new to the rv life your channel has helped us alot!!
@@iLoveRVlife Thank you so much for the advice.
@@iLoveRVlife Its supposed to be 103 here today, I did cut and place some reflectix in the afternoon sun facing windows! We plucked up some coolaroo sails we are planning on attempting to rig up since we are semi-permanent settled and they are inexpensive. Thank you again!
You bet! Hope that helps.
that is really cool . no pun intended lol
Hahaha. It's is! Jerry.....
Can your awning be retracted with the whole screen ?
I wouldn't try it Jeff. There would be too much bulk. It's easy and a couple minutes to zip or unzip from the top panel.
Great video, what town and campground are you in at North Georgia ?
Leisure Acres in Cleveland GA. One our favorite falls escapes.
How about using some silicone spray in the track first?
What do you do if the wind kicks up and you need to get the awning rolled up quickly? Can you leave the short piece on?
I noticed your grill. Do you have a video on it?
Thanks
JR
What happens if you have a wind sensitive awning? And its staked in the ground. Will it damage your awning motor?
Hi John. If you can't turn off that feature, I wouldn't use this. Even if not staked, it would be quite a bit of screen to roll up automatically.
Love that product. Would like to know that campground name, it was beautimous!
Leisure Acres just outside of Cleveland. Super nice people and love the location to all the fun stuff around the Georgia foothills. A couple years old, but a few highlights. ruclips.net/video/t9iXE8J5gtI/видео.html
Tanks for the quick comeback. Have a good trip!
Not sure if you could apply some sort of oil or something sprayed to the mesh, to make it easier to install? Great product by the way.
Maybe a little WD40. Good news is it stays in place.
Silicone spray works great. Non greasy.
I use it on my awning and plastic zips.
I’m on the same page as you are regarding the dog “run”/stake. Yuck! Don’t like them. Anyway…great video. I just received my shade a couple weeks ago. Love it! I live in Florida and do a lot of weekend camping so I’ll use this a lot!!
Thanks. We just spent a month in Florida and used everyday. Makes a huge difference.
With our awning we could have just lowered the front instead of climbing?
Not that lucky on this end. We have hydrolic shocks and can tilt either end about 6 inches for rain run off.
Jerry...
Thanks Jerry. Good to know and appreciate all the info.
How would you handle a 70lb dog around camp without a tether?
No idea. We’re kitty people.
@iLoveRVlife you imply there is something wrong with a tether for a dog in your video. You make it sound inhumane, but decline to specify how you might handle it.
Does the top portion above the zipper roll up with the awning?
It does Richard. Very thin. No problem and no additional bulk to the awning.
Very nice! :O)
Thanks
What type of camera are you using for your video's
It’s a Canon T6i. More here ruclips.net/video/-yexceDANKE/видео.html
Jerry, I like the outcome of the sun shade. One question, do you roll it up with the awning or do you take it off when you go to roll up the awning?
Hi Tim. Good question and I should have addressed in the video. Just unzip the lower two-thirds and store, then just retract the awning as usual. The top portion is light weight and adds little to no mass to the awning. Jerry...
@@iLoveRVlife Jerry, thank you for the reply, that is what I was hoping to hear. We are thinking of visiting North Georgia in 2019 (we are from Dayton Ohio) When is a good time to visit there without hitting the "Sauna" season? Also would like to visit Savannah.
Glad to help. The shoulder seasons are our favorite. April till early June for both. For the mountains typically October. First week this year was unusually warm, but turned quick. In Savannah, October to Early December. This is two of our favorites. We like to stay at Skidaway in Savannah. A beautiful state park. @@iLoveRVlife Thank you a bunch Jerry. We will check them out.
Do you retract the shade with the awning?
Only the top quarter when unzipped. Doesn’t add any bulk to the awning when rolled up.
Do you take the zipper off and let the little piece roll up
Hi Terry. We do. Adds no bulk to the awning roller.
