And in Lana del Ray’s A&W in 2023 but she says shimmy shimmy cocoa pop… but the original is from a 1950’s American singing group Little Anthony & The Imperials!!! But then some people said it’s even older than that and it’s an American children’s rhyme/ game a clapping game called Down Down Baby 😂 So I googled the meaning of Ko Ko Bop for Exo, and what I found was an old interview from Chanyeol where he said it just means seizing the day, dancing, having fun. And in other interviews Baekhyun has said about the MV: they just landed on earth and so their powers are kinda wonky… and the video is just them kinda having fun and not thinking about the worries of tomorrow… after reading that everything made sense 😊 That being said, doesnt matter if we dont get it. It’s definitely a Bop and I love everyone’s style in the MV. Hoping for some more adventurous hairstyles like these in future comebacks so much fun. To understand the story in EXO's "Ko Ko Bop" MV, you have to connect the story in "Ko Ko Bop" to the story in their "Lucky One" MV. :D "Ko Ko Bop" may look trippy and crazy, but if you understand EXO's storyline you will see that everything was done for a specific reason. According to the members, Ko Ko Bop is an infectious, happy dance. Hence why it's called Ko Ko BOP. I see it as they are happy to now be free from the Red Forces' control (or happy to be alive), so they are letting loose and dancing. (It can't be about drugs because that would be highly scandalous and it could never be played on the radio or seen on TV, etc. in Korea. Or, at the very least, it has to have more than one meaning, just like EXO's "Lotto".) There are 8 members in "Ko Ko Bop." This MV came out in 2017 and it was the first MV where Lay was unable to participate because of the political issues between the Korean and Chinese government at the time. I can see how people might think that Ko Ko Bop is a drug they are all taking and that is why they are acting like they are high and kind of in a loopy drugged-like state. But to really understand what is happening in "Ko Ko Bop," you have to understand what was happening in their "Lucky One" MV. In "Lucky One" EXO has been captured by the Red Force who is doing experiments on EXO to try and figure out what makes them special, and to find a way to prevent them from finding and protecting the Tree of Life, etc. The members all use their powers to escape from the government facility and this is where theories say that the story in "Ko Ko Bop" picks up right after they have escaped in "Lucky One". The blue Ko Ko Bop drink that Suho mixes and the members drink -- which I now think is connected to the blue drink we see Kai drinking in their "Don't Fight the Feeling" MV and the blue drink that we see everyone drinking in their new "Cream Soda" MV -- and the pills or wafers we see them eating, was originally thought to be an elixir that is helping the members to detox from the drugs the Red Force gave them when they were being held against their will in the "Lucky One" MV. Remember, blue represents EXO and red represents the Red Force. When you see red and blue lights flashing in the same scene that's usually thought to represent a moment when EXO and the Red Force are in conflict or they are fighting with each other, etc. So that's why we think the blue drink is something good that is meant to help the EXO members. According to SM, the story in "Ko Ko Bop" also shows the members soon after they have arrived on Earth and they are all experimenting with their powers. That is why in "Ko Ko Bop" you see Kai with the power of teleportation using his power to levitate and you see him do the "treadmill" move next to the car. Suho, with the power to control water, jumps into the water and disappears, and later appears inside the washing machine, etc. Xiumin has the power of snow/ice/frost, so he is using his power to create a cloud to fill the glass. Sehun uses his power to control wind to make objects float in the air. D.O. accidentally uses his power of strength/force and splits open the ground when he falls down. You see Chen with the power of thunder/lightning/electricity playing with his power. Baekhyun uses his power of light as he throws the ball in the air and creates that huge flash of light, and Chanyeol uses his power of fire to create the fireworks when he bounces the ball into the sky. Those tattoos you can see are fake, but like everything SM does, they aren't just random tattoos, they are specific images and messages as part of EXO's storyline. So part of their story goes: The members were trapped in the maze by the Red Force in their "Overdose" MV and while they were trapped, they were captured and moved to the lab in "Lucky One" and after escaping in "Lucky One" we see them detoxing in "Ko Ko Bop." However, since then, we now have more information after EXO's "Obsession" MV part of the story was released. In "Obsession" we have discovered that the Red Force has created X-EXO clones. So, some theories now think that instead of "Ko Ko Bop" being about the EXO members, it might be showing us X-EXO. In "Obsession," the members in the bright colors with the crazy hair and makeup were the X-EXO clones and the members in the all-black outfits were EXO. So now some theories think that maybe because "Ko Ko Bop" is so colorful, that it is showing us X-EXO right after they were brought to life, and this is their first time out in the world. So, X-EXO are playing with their powers and trying to figure out how they work, and they are getting acclimated to their environment, etc. But, as you can see, to make it even more difficult to follow the story, nothing is in chronological order. If you're wanting a physical EXO album recommendation, I think I've recommended you this before, but~ I'd recommend The War: The Power of Music, if you're still interested really going into their concept; it'll help some~~~ It's the repackage of The War album, and it's comic book meets Power Rangers themed. The animation-style artwork is actually really good; like for the random page of the short comic that was created for the album, which ties heavily into EXO's story! (I recommend also just searching up scans of the comic & reading it; it's *very* short but ties into the Power MV~~~) The album, instead of a photobook, has postcard-like cards that go into each member's power (except Lay's-.-) The album is just one of the cooler created physical albums, imo~^.^ I'd also recommend the physical album of Obsession; there are some neat little features to that album, as well^.^ There are also some albums, like a specific version of The War, where the EXO members themselves took the photos of each other^.^ If you're wanting the album for more like the pictures, based on what I gather from your personal tastes, I'd say Love Shot or a version of EXIST would be a good starting point^.^
There is a theory that Kokobop is "trippy" because Exo is experiencing a high while they are being experimented on by the Red Force. In their previous Lucky One MV, they never really got to escape the maze. They apparently got recaptured and they are seeing the world in a different manner because of the tablets/blue drink they were given at the start of the Kokobop MV. They are too "high" they couldn't use their powers to escape.

After party!! I needed this today after a long journey back from a break away. This video to me is super hot guys on dr**s, happy and high… but there is more. Each one of them does something linked to their powers… Suho jumps into a glass of water and we also see him in the washing machine, Xiumin is playing with ice cubes, Chen plays with the open wires (electricity) and his power is lightning, Chanyeol is fire and makes fireworks from a ball, Baekhyun is light and makes what looks like an atomic bomb from a ball, D.O. Kai is playing with the car moving alongside it a play on his teleportation, and Sehun… with his wind power…that’s actually the one I struggle with seeing in this video… his dance breaks look like their are on airstrips??? It was a fifth year in Exo career and I remember Korean media started weird noise about Exo losing popularity. But The War album actually beated Exo previous albums and song was popular too. Kokobop dance challenge started even without Exo pushing any challenge at all😆 They had to perform song a lot to the point some of the fans got tired of it, but I guess it was more of a fandom joke. At least I personally never got tired of Kokobop. Also fun fact: a lot of fans hated Baekhyuns mullet but I believe he is one of the idols who made this hairstyle trendy😭
"Ko Ko Bop" is described as an energetic reggae song with rhythmical reggae and bass guitar sounds. "Ko Ko Bop" was co-written by Exo members Chen, Chanyeol and Baekhyun.
Fun fact: kokobop was so popular, we even had the first dance challenge initiated by a fan and end up worldwide viral and it was repeated in all their concerts.

EXO is one of those groups that defies genre, so they could pop up with literally anything in any structure. I agree with the commenters who are saying that "The War" (and subsequently "The War: The Power of Music") is a contender for best EXO album. in KoKobop, you'll see every member manifesting an element of their powers, except Sehun's, i believe. Also, note the license plate of the car Baekhyun is leaning on. It's a shout-out to EXO-Ls, with the fandom anniversary.

If you're wanting a physical EXO album recommendation, I think I've recommended you this before, but~ I'd recommend The War: The Power of Music, if you're still interested really going into their concept; it'll help some~~~ It's the repackage of The War album, and it's comic book meets Power Rangers themed. The animation-style artwork is actually really good; like for the random page of the short comic that was created for the album, which ties heavily into EXO's story! (I recommend also just searching up scans of the comic & reading it; it's *very* short but ties into the Power MV~~~) The album, instead of a photobook, has postcard-like cards that go into each member's power (except Lay's-.-) The album is just one of the cooler created physical albums, imo~^.^
I'd also recommend the physical album of Obsession; there are some neat little features to that album, as well^.^
There are also some albums, like a specific version of The War, where the EXO members themselves took the photos of each other^.^
If you're wanting the album for more like the pictures, based on what I gather from your personal tastes, I'd say Love Shot or a version of EXIST would be a good starting point^.^
There is a theory that Kokobop is "trippy" because Exo is experiencing a high while they are being experimented on by the Red Force. In their previous Lucky One MV, they never really got to escape the maze.
They apparently got recaptured and they are seeing the world in a different manner because of the tablets/blue drink they were given at the start of the Kokobop MV. They are too "high" they couldn't use their powers to escape.

After party!! I needed this today after a long journey back from a break away. This video to me is super hot guys on dr**s, happy and high… but there is more.
Each one of them does something linked to their powers… Suho jumps into a glass of water and we also see him in the washing machine, Xiumin is playing with ice cubes, Chen plays with the open wires (electricity) and his power is lightning, Chanyeol is fire and makes fireworks from a ball, Baekhyun is light and makes what looks like an atomic bomb from a ball, D.O. Breaks the floor with his head when he falls with his ‘power’ power. Kai is playing with the car moving alongside it a play on his teleportation, and Sehun… with his wind power…that’s actually the one I struggle with seeing in this video… his dance breaks look like their are on airstrips??? I dunno.
I think part of the concept was them getting their powers back as part of a series of videos that show things that have been through with Red Force across a few albums. Listen to The War album… it may make more sense. Maybe. I could be talking bullcra*.

Supposedly this comes after Lucky One where they had been captured and experimented on. Here they are coming off of the drugs. OR these are the. X-EXO clones who in both videos are learning their new powers. Hence, Kai has only been able to transport a cloud and is reading a book on eclipses. And DO underestimated his power and caused the huge crack in the ground and the car bounced up.
