    And of course, when you do major-league Cha-Cha in International Latin (and sometimes in American Rhythm), don't forget the "guapacha" rhythm. Just like rumba, guapacha also exists in cha-cha!
    Regular guapacha is usually this -
    (hold 2) and 3 4 and 1 - generally no movement of the feet on 2.
    Syncopated guapacha is usually done in open-style cha-cha competition, and often is like this -
    and 3 4 and 1 2 and 3 4 and 1 2 and 3 4 and 1, etc. That is, each "and" is usually emphasized in syncopated guapacha.
    And there are variations on this syncopated guapacha.
    So the mantra of counting cha-cha in guapacha rhythm is this - do not move at all on the first part of the 2nd beat - but you DO move on the second half of the 2nd beat (general rule).
    Hope all this helps when you are trying to master the cha-cha's guapacha rhythm timing.

    Many years ago the Cubans musicians I played gigs told me to NEVER count coz it's all in the music. And that's how my wife and I dance.
    If you know how the music works and how to listen to it, you're totally free to dance away, improvise and be spontaneous with the music... instead of being preoccupied with counting and executing memorized turn patterns.

    Hello teacher. have a great day. I have been learning sports dancing for 5 times but I'm trying to count with music but I don't know how to start. you count 1, 2, 3 cha cha 1. 2, 3 cha cha. so when the music starts the first sound of drum you call 1, next sound of drum you call 2. Right?

    • @Passion4dancing
      @Passion4dancing 6 лет назад

      Yes exactly right.

    • @kathleenbaff8330
      @kathleenbaff8330 6 лет назад +1

      Exactly. However, a lot of people easily make the mistake of counting '1' when they are actually on beat '2' - thus putting their timing out. So when they start the dance, '1' is the side 'prep' step and then they step strongly on '2'.

    why don't you count 1 2 3 chacha 5 6 7 chacha? In other words why does one count Salsa to 8 and ChaCha only to 4? counting to eight would be one line of melody and one whole basic step, no?

  • @mchristos606
    @mchristos606 5 лет назад

    Why don't you do a little experiment ? Put 4 couples on the dance floor and instruct them to do ONLY the basic ca cha step to international cha-cha music. Please report what you have observed !!

    Your count 123,Cha, Cha is not normal. Why not use the more-standard 1-2-3-and-4 most people use? You start on the left foot for one, step back on the right for two. Most people use a left prep step and then a right step back on one. Either count works solo but two dancers using a different count can't coordinate.
