A Stroll Around CLAREMONT GARDENS | SURREY

It’s a Gloriously Warm August Day so I decide to take a Wander around the Grade 1 Listed Claremont Landscaped Gardens near Esher in Surrey. Steeped in nearly 300 years of History, this 18th Century Garden is a Green Oasis in the heart of Surrey. Many of the great names in Landscape Design played a part in the Creation of the Estate including Sir John Vanbrugh, Charles Bridgeman, William Kent and ‘Capability’ Brown who all put their own distinctive stamp on the Grounds.

When the kids were younger, we used to love taking them to Claremont - there’s a great play area and the whole place is geared up for them. We went one day when they had a boat that would take you out to the island which was fun!
The Belvedere tower is actually on the land of the Claremont fan court school and it’s only occasionally open in conjunction with the national trust for a few days in the year - I do want to go up it at some point.

I used to live opposite Claremont….I always found it a bit creepy.
Perhaps the buildings that stand alone and are not used are a bit weird.

Great video Marq. Good to see a fine example of one of the old "tin taberbacles" not only in good condition, but in good use it would seem. I recall St. Peters, I think it was, up on The ridge in Hastings, at the Baldslow end. Sadly sacrificed in the 1990's to make way for road widening. It's always good to go "off the beaten track". Who knows what treasures are there to be discovered?

Thanks Mark- I have heard of it possibly from a National Trust handbook! My favourite Gdns are the Savill Garden at Windsor. Have you been there? We don’t go now as the car pk was always packed. It’s a long way to go to find you can’t park. Perhaps they have extended it?
