+Cristian Luna No, but to be an RPA Pilot, you need to be an officer. To be an RPA Sensor Operator (The dude who controls the camera and the laser designator) you can be enlisted.
Khoa Nguyen enlisted does not fly jets, helicopters, and whatnot. That’s only commissioned officers. Enlisted can and does actually fly drones or ‘UAVs’
If the US ever wants to take it to the next level, they should make a recreational game simulation for drone warfare. This could easily weed out those with talent for this kind of warfare. In games, and real life, there is a massive difference in apptitude between different people. If you look at a typical elo system used in chess, or in an mmo, the gap between the average player and the best lies an uncrossable chasm, and no matter how much effort the average person puts in they can never reach that level. If this was applied to drones, and only those incredible talents were used in actual conflicts then I can only imagine the disastrous losses for the opposition, even if they had equal tech and manpower. After all, drone pilots can't be lost. Using any Joe shmoe is in theory wasting millions of dollars in resources.
how do they connect to the drones to fly them? Satelite connectivity, internet, or something else? And is there a delay between the footage and the actual command of operation?
@@realmartcraft It is a few milliseconds of delay which is massive enough when flying a plane. Which is why drone control architecture is very different from a traditional fly by wire system in a normal plane.

dave4shmups They tried wire but it was too thin and kept overheating, so they switched to cable. Then Satellite came in with a better deal and got a 12 year contract. Today they're talking about going off the grid and only using the internet for Netflix and Hulu.

I’m looking to go Army UAV pilot (15W) but also want to do helicopter maintenance (15T) since I can be a flying crew chief. Which is better?

Poor drone pilots, they're stuck in the right seat forever. Seriously though, as a pilot and not a vidya game rivet counter (last sim I played was probably F16 Fighting Falcon in the early 90's - although it's graphics compare to this crap) this is a terrible interface system. A track ball? I haven't seen a track ball in thirty years. They never took on because they're counter intuitive and dumb. Give the man a fucking thumb cymbal on his yoke instead. Also wtf do all these desk pilots fly holding the very bloody base of the stick? They scared that they'll have some kind of brain fart and randomly start firing shit?
I'm assuming a lot of it is just because they want a closed loop system, where everything is packaged into the one machine. I'm not a pilot nor do I have any experience with aviation, just taking a guess based on the way their hardware looks to be setup
I've nearly finished a book of one of the founding squadron commander's who helped develop several aspects of RPA and the MQ1 which includes manuals and procedures. This is a thankless job, pilots are stuck for 8 hours in a container but have the same stress and responsibility as real pilots coupled to the same strict commands. Everyone thought a catapult was a dishonorable way to fight a war, nowadays look at the M1 Abraham tank and its worth.

Not anymore.
+jimnkristy you do if you want to fly Predators, enlisted are only allowed to fly unarmed global hawks.
I wonder if they're allowed to listen to Ride of the Valkyries on the job.
I think only flight of the bumblebee is authorized 😂
Sense they don't seem to know who they are bombing half the time anyway, might as well...fuck it.
This is what I’m going for when I enlist next year 🇺🇸
Rip to u
In good enough time for ww3
I wonder if you have started yet
I'm working towards enlisting
@Черногорский истребитель the vast majority of these pilots are gathering intel, not all of them are piloting the drone strikes lmfao
what do those buttons on the joystick do?

so is this like the WFH version of being an air force pilot?
i'm enlisting and my mos will be 15w. does anyone know how hard it is to get through flight school for this mos?
Good luck
