2016 was a bad year for Polaroid pack camera owners. The last production of film left the factory and machinery destroyed, turning millions of Polaroids into film orphans. But rather than relegating my Polaroid cameras to the shelf, I wanted to see whether they could be put to use again. This is one example of my efforts.
Amazing, thanks for sharing. If you ever find the time and interest, I think a step-by-step video on the 4x5 (and/or medium format) conversion would be great, as I am a bit scared of making a mistake following the written instructions.
I had a Polaroid Pathfinder modified for LF and it was lovely but as you said, the darkslides made it huge and difficult to use the rangefinder so I sold it and bought a Graflex RB tele which is lovely, this is a great channel but most us can’t 3D print yet
Great video! Very informative. I’m waiting on parts, to convert a Polaroid 800 to shoot 120. I’d like to try a 4x5 conversion some day.

Btw, I’ve also started a project to convert one of the cheap Polaroid 104 into a portable large format enlarger, in my mind it was great 😅 but I start to see why nobody else seems to have done it before. What do you think? Cheers! Jorge
@@eme42jtm any of the pack film cameras would make an enlarger. It doesn't quite cover 4x5--a little vignetting on the corners. Just gut the shutter mechanism, make a stand, and a light box.
You could use carefully cut spring steel sheets as darkslides. Otherwise, this is a really amazing idea.
I'd like to find some thin steel or aluminum stock I can make dark slides out of...
Just out of curiosity, is it possible to make your own sort of diy film for these cameras using the original film holder packs? Like loading it with Fuji wide or new Polaroid film? I just want to give the one I've got a try before going and putting too much work into something
Yes, this is what I initially did when testing these cameras with sheet film. I made a dark box out of foam board to hold 5 old film packs, each with a sheet of film or photo paper, and used a dark bag to change it.
speaking of frankenstein 200, i shot some last week and tried developing it with PQ Universal diluted 1+35 for 5 min and i got good results. Both the film and the developer were new to me
I'll have to try a PQ developer with this film. D76 seems to produce pretty thin negatives...
How do you clean your cameras like that, do you polish them? 😅
These cameras are made of pretty good materials which are easy to clean so I just use a damp cloth with out cleaner.

@@777enkidu you may need to adjust the rangefinder slightly to compensate for the extra 1mm offset that the film holder has. Make a ground glass with the same offset and cross check the rangefinder with the ground glass and adjust accordingly. When taking pics at infinity, stop down to at least f/11.
