I ont know if this is a thing you do. I have just adopt ed a Australian Bulldog 4 years old. He has been used purely for breeding and spent all his life in a cage. Has been taught nothing. Simply to come out cage to service then back in cage.
He was to be put down when l heard about him and couldnt stand that he had no life at all. He is a gorgeous big spiky boy and now l a 77 year old lady is trying to teach him some manners. I have had him 2 weeks and he now sits and waits till l put his food down and no longer needs to sleep on my bed with me.
Itswhenl go outhe is very reactive to people dogs cats anything at all as he really doesn't know what the hell they are. He is a big boy for this old lady but l want to give home a life he just hasn't had. But need to know how to go about the above. As l am the first person to show him love he is very attached to me so l really don't want to give up on him and move him on. I am a pensioner and obviously l don't have heaps money but just thought l would ask an maybe you can suggest what needs to be done. I am so impressed by your tips and l know l am asking a lot but even some advice would help.
By the way he is not aggressive at all . Thank you for listening Anna

Dr Ian Dunbar has books that you can download without a fee. That would give you alot of information.
Expose him to new environments, people, animals in minimal amounts gradually increasing over time.

Every time my dog peed outside, I would say, “Go pee.” Eventually, I could just let her out and tell her to go pee. I think that’s a little kinder

That is wonderful! And some people might have success doing that, but a lot people will not, so we do our best to come up with methods that are as fool-proof as possible, while being as kind as possible as well. When people have difficulty with potty training, their dog usually suffers, so we've really tried to make a very easy and reliable system for potty training that will work as often as possible
