Anie Alerte: Okap people take care of their own first (Part 1)

Anie Alerte, singer & songwriter, is one of the few people to come to the Sejoe Space and share that she is from someplace other than Port-au-Prince. She is proud of being from Okap and says it is a quality seen often in people from that region. Why? The pride of Henri Christophe runs deep, considering it was once capital of the Kingdom of Northern Haiti.

Both of my parents are from Okap & I’m always proud to let people know that’s where we’re from. Even when people try to make fun of our kreyol, I take pride that people automatically know where we’re from without even asking.

Most of your guests are born in the US and the others do say where they’re from or their parents are from even if they’re born or raised in PAP.
