223/226 is the ''best'' domestic machine that I have ever seen. Because of all metal parts and shuttle hook. It is a mini size industrial machine actually. All mechanic linkages are adjustable for precise timing. I love this machine. She can sew adhesived fabrics which I can't sew with rotary hook machine.
I have the Japanese model of this sewing machine, it’s model #238. it’s identical except for the plastic cover plate on the front which has some Japanese symbols. The casting is made in Japan and the motor is made in Canada. The motor on mine clearly says made in Canada. I saw another video where the person said hers showed .. “made in Japan” on the body, and .. “made in Canada” on the motor, hers was a 223, and it was almost the same. She demonstrated with heavy leather that was folded several times and also with heavy denim and she talked about how much torque this heavy duty work horse has. The one common thing that everyone mentions is how heavy it is, lol. Almost 40 lbs. I wondered if they were assembled in both Canada and Japan but because I have a Japanese one, I’m going to assume they were assembled here in Canada, but who knows. Mine appeared to have been manufactured in 1962/63. I’m going to make heavy curtains.
Just found a Singer 237 Fashionmate (mid 60s i think, made it italy) for free. It needs some work, the pedal drives the motor. but the belt (even when adjusted tight) does not power the needle more than one time up and down. I need to oil it i know for sure. Is it possible that the belt is just needing replaced? Thanks for any pointers or things i could look for. I wish you had a 237 video. thanks.

Where do you sell these? Do you have a repair shop? If so where you located? My repairman sucks!! Half the time I get my machines back the same way I brought them to him.
I sell on Ebay. I do this as a hobby from my home as a way to pay for the machines that I wish to acquire. Sorry to hear about your repairman, I don't have any good advice except don't continue to employ poor performers.

Are those cams interchangeable with other Singer Sewing Machine or are they specifically for the 226?
