I was at this, was insane - between the incredible skating, meeting heroes like Pat Duffy and Phil Shao (RIP) and us kids figuring out you needed white wristbands to get onto the street course but that all our coloured 'spectator' wristbands were white on the inside. A quick twist around and suddenly we were 'pros' 😂. The Jag got flipped over and trashed at the end - I still have one of the wheel centre caps as a souvenir
Was there on the Saturday for the heets, ever skater worth his salt then was there! Ended chilling for a minute outside in a small park with musta, penny, John Reece and Jake phelps ,which was rad!! Every pro was out selling shit, tees shoes caps 😁🙄
That X-Games course was more of a Rollerblade course. I remember it well. 1996-97, rollerblading was huge. It was the combination of rollerblading and skateboarding that got X-Games off the ground. Most people don’t know how much rollerblading played a role in all that. I was there and watched all that happen. Then a few years later ESPN did rollerblading dirty and dropped them from the X-Games. Doing that to those guys when they helped X-Games get a foothold was so wrong. They erased those dudes from their history, when the reality is it wouldn’t have happened without them. I saw this with my own two eyes. I had a good friend who was a professional rollerblader back then. He passed away about ten years ago unfortunately. Rip Neil Semar.
