Your unstyled hair is STUNNING ❤ thank you for being so real about your curly hair. You’ve inspired me to embrace my unstyled hair more. I have wavy curls as well and some days my hair looks curly and others wavy. I see comments about wavy/curlies not being curly enough too and I think it gets into my head. Whereas in the real world, no one cares.
Thank you, and I'm so glad to hear this! It's so true that in the real world, no one cares. If anything, I probably get more compliments from strangers on the days my curls look less perfect to me!
I needed to hear this. I'm still at the start of my journey and have become obsessed with how curly I can get my hair. I feel so frustrated when I don't get amazing curls, and label my hair as 'sh!t' when I don't style but that's not fair at all - it's fine, of course! Nothing to be embarrassed about. Thanks for posting this!
I LOVE it that the curly movement is going into a more relaxed state. I definitely felt like when i first started my wavy hair journey in 2019 i absolutely had to style it wavy until I didnt. I havent styled my hair with gel in months because i like the loose vibes my hair gives with just a hair foam. I dont even bother diffusing because it just takes too long. I've also been embracing heatless curls and waves and it has been a GAME CHANGER. I finally found a heatless wave method that resembles my natural hair texture if I want to style it without all the work of scrunching and diffusing. I think once people start to embrace their waves and curls they kind of forget your hair is capable of so much!
Thanks for being realistic and showing us that it's completely normal to have more or less curls. I also try to embrace my hair like it is, without putting pressure on myself by always styling, always aiming for the most defined curls and always expecting perfect ringlets etc. Hair is okay (maybe even beautiful?) even when not perfectly styled :)
I think fine hair can stretch out more easily, especially when tied up/slept on and stretching out is not just for wavy curly hair (which is usually fine). I have curly 3b fine hair, but I can make it look 3a curly, even with wavy areas. Although the tighter ringlets do tend to form again themselves, particularly on ends and lengths. I do believe curly coarser hair can stretch out/drop the curly, too, but maybe not as easily as for fine haired curlies and waves unless they lack protein. I'm glad to see you being realistic and honest about it. So many curlies and wavies put so much pressure on themselves, trying for perfect curls and waves with no frizz at all and often think their hair looks awful when they don't succeed perfection when everyone else thinks it looks fine.
That rut is more true than i want to admit. I have 2A-2C waves when styled, but the top layer of my hair goes basically straight when unstyled. In high school i was obsessively straightening the curlier (or, as i thought at the time, frizzier) layers, and now i’m always preoccupied with getting my top layers to be curlier. I was thrilled when i first discovered what wavy/curly hair routines could do for me - my hair wasn’t just frizzy! It could be pretty without me frying it! - but i guess the insecurity has crept back in over time in a different form. Hopefully i can keep figuring out how to best work with and accept my hair.
Glad you enjoyed! I definitely will still style my curls often as I love how my hair looks like that personally, but I'm definitely trying to let go of the NEED to this year. Our hair exists in so many different states doesn't it! Thanks for watching 🧡
Its gorgeous like that and when its styled. If I don't do my hair, I hate it😅 Its blah and has no volume. I love it so much styled and I'm so happy I started my curly journey 9/2023 ❤
Unlike many people who felt like they had to blow fry their hair to oblivion, I always loved the look of curls! I spent countless nights trying heatless curls including braids trying to get my hair to hold a curl, and even tried perming my hair twice. I'm over two years into my wavy hair journey now and HAVE NOT GIVEN UP!
My lenght does not allow me the safety of hair styles and I seldom have time for refreshing so I just deal with washday results. But yes, I have been wondering how it would look unstyled. You've engouraged me to give it a try! Your hair is just as aspirational in this video as it is in all of your content! 😊
Happy new year to you too. I have spent the last 6 months realising the exact same thing you have just talked about and have been learning to love my hair in all it's states whether curly day 1-2 or more wavy day 3-4. It is realising that being happy in your own hair is a great thing. It's lovely to admire others hair but also embrace your own . Thanks for sharing this, it is a lovely idea for 2024.😊❤
Yeah I always feel like if there’s even the slightest amount of frizz my hair isn’t curly or I guess “perfect” enough. I’m trying to let go of that though, and this video meant a lot because I’m sick of other curly videos always looking perfect and amazing and setting unrealistic expectations. Thanks for being transparent, we really need that!
Good for you! I rarely bother styling beyond a bit of leave in/cream for care. I scrunch into a t-shirt and maybe diffuse if I get cold. It looks pretty good on day 1 and sometimes can water refresh on day 2. If not, bun! I have to wash every 2, max 3 days because of scalp sensitivity, but I would just bun it beyond that too if I could. No-one cares what I look like when I'm just working at home! 😂
This is EXACTLY what I've been feeling I never did anything to my wavy curly hair (only shampoo & rinse-out conditioner, no styling, combed it every day) and then during a period of hair experimentation during university, I got it permanently straightened just because I was curious how. I never disliked my hair, though I did have my annoyances here and there, naturally, and did sometimes wish my hair would stay more in it's wavy state post-shower day. Anyway, after a year and a half of straight hair, I fell down the curly hair rabbit hole and got super excited to grow it out while, in the meantime, quickly learning how to care for and style it curly and gathering all the materials to do so. I now style my hair every wash day. But I very quickly realized that I was suddenly feeling the OPPOSITE of what I'd felt back when all I knew was my un-styled hair. I wanted it to be _curlier._ And that was the tone of everything I was watching on the topic of curly hair. How to make it as curly as possible. I immediately tried to tell myself that was ridiculous because here people are, wishing their hair was straight, but then they see the light and start disliking their hair because it isn't curly enough?? Well you know what? Every hair texture is gorgeous. Straight? I thought I looked great with it. Wavy? Puffy? Curly? I also know they look great on me. So when my styled curls start getting frizzy? I don't pout about it, I comb out my hair and revel in the wavy, "undefined" poof of my majestic lion's mane ✨🦁✨
Yes, I feel that this attitude is especially healthy once your hair starts going grey. I've personally decided to stop using permanent color and learn to style it wavy to boot. As a result, I am learning to embrace the coarseness, work around the frizz and mold the volume. No look is repeated twice because...well, I never know how it's going to behave each morning. Perhaps once it's grown out of the long pixie and there's some weight on it but until then, I'm going to follow your advice.
Thanks for sharing that! Of course, your hair is curlier than mine on any given day, even my best day, but it is good to know that we're not the only ones who have bad hair days sometimes! We always see y'all at your best, and I don't know about others out there, but I RARELY achieve amazing results. Thanks for being down to earth and being willing to share your hair in all its forms! (And I absolutely love your accent!)
I have naturally curly hair but still wear my hair straightened whenever it is down. When you made the transition from straight to curly how did you get over the not thoroughly brushing your hair when dry? This is my main stumbling block at the moment.
@@hanzcurls well you have beautiful naturally curly hair anyway Hannah, thanks for replying 💝. I have naturally curly hair, and yes it can be a nightmare to manage! But your right sometimes it is just good to naturally embrace your curl pattern. As long as you use plenty of conditioner, you don't always need to style it and wash it lots , who else agrees?

Yes! I love this! Curly hair is worthy in all it's forms 🙌
It really is!🧡
Great video and on point. We should wear our hair more on the natural side. It’s really the products we use that enhance the curls and waves anyway.👍🌹

Oh my gosh, what a fantastic point. P.S. your unstyled hair looks FANTASTIC. Mine is just frizz 😭
Thank you so much! Ahh it's so hard showing the frizz on camera with the lighting and all, but trust me it's there for me too!
And what's wrong with frizz? Actually kind of unique that we have it. Straight hair people can't achieve our level of frizz.
love your honesty!
I appreciate that!
Honestly get more compliments when I feel like my hair is messier 🤷♀️ more relaxed 😎
Same tbh! Always surprises me 😂
You have beautiful curly hair 🥰💓
Thank you!!

By the way, your super frizzed out look was realy nice. You look great in that frizz, something that most curly hairs dont want to embrace.

Nice thing about curly hair is that it does look different everyday unlike straight hair.

Would you ever consider colouring your hair Hannah? 🤔
I don't think so! Unless it's a more vibrant shade of my natural colour 🧡
