    I do like this subject, I can easily play parts like this, but I’m a first grader in counting the subdivisions, or understanding where in the bar I’m playing. Also I was really intrigued by what you said about making the sound happen on the beat, not just plucking on the beat. Liked and subscribed !

    • @KYLETEACHESBASSYT
      @KYLETEACHESBASSYT  3 месяца назад +1

      Appreciate you man! Developing an understanding of the counting will give you another "mental angle" to connect to the pulse. Not to mention, it's really efficient when you can tell another musician "the rhythm is 1 a +, not 1 + +" or whatever! Since you already have the hard part down (being able to execute syncopated rhythms), adding words to what you can already play will be nothing! Happy shedding!

    This is precisely what I am working on right now. I aways to be off the tempo even though I 'feel' like I am on time. Sound of the notes on the beat not the plucking just hit me over the head. Can't wait to practice this tonight.

    I’m in a band that plays Latin rock, reggae, and ska and this practice will be very helpful to keep me in the pocket for our intricate rhythms. Also, I find playing at a slower tempo is harder than going faster as any little bit off beat is more noticeable as there’s more space and more precision (Fender pun intended) is needed

    • @KYLETEACHESBASSYT
      @KYLETEACHESBASSYT  4 месяца назад

      @@Kiviat ha. Fender pun appreciated. Yeah man, you're objectively right: slower tempos have more room for error, but afford your physical body the ability to build the muscle memory. I'm glad you'll get something useful from this. Those styles you're playing require a lot of precision on the off beats (as I'm sure you know haha), and really being able to nail the center of the beat (especially so that the other band members can groove around it). Thanks so much for your input, great comment!

    You are a great teacher, no doubt. But there's more to it : not only counting helps but there's a better way - to sing while you play - aka breathing. No brainer there, that's what Victor Wooten teaches, and it works. Trust me , I have experience of playing bass and drums and other instruments for 20 plus years. Still thank you, great to see people like you sharing knowledge with others. Keep up!

      You're very welcome, glad it will be helpful. Go ahead and break the lesson into parts and go nice and slow with the metronome. Count while you play and increase the speed very gradually. Rhythm lives in your mind, then your body, then your instrument. Counting will help you build the pulse, so even if you count without playing at first, that's beneficial. Once you internalize that pulse, it's just a matter of building your muscle memory. Keep at it, and update me about your progress!

      Timing is everything for a bassist. Great lesson! If I could suggest one thing, it would be to give a musical context to apply the concept to. In a groove, comparing how it sounds with and without being mindful of the subdivisions. Great stuff! Also, love the tone of that BB 🤌🏻

    Awesome lesson. I would defintely enjoy more on the triplet feel. The sound of the note and not the pluck, hmmm. That is the first time I've ever heard that. I feel like I be going by the pluck. Do you have any suggestions on how I can tell and how to fix it? Would it be different for different amps / setups?

    • @KYLETEACHESBASSYT
      @KYLETEACHESBASSYT  2 месяца назад

      Thank you so much for watching, and glad you found it helpful! Don't overthink using the "sound" too much...it really just means focus your ears on the way your bass and the drums (or metronome) are meeting up with each other--the sound of the drums and the beginning of your bass note need to be spot on, and it just takes focused listening, and of course, practice. All the best!

      Keep at it, and stay at a good pace. It's all about precision. Practicing is like weight lifting. Just like you gotta make small increases at a time and gradually build up with weight, you gotta build up small chunks, and go from slow to fast. It'll come, excited to hear about your progress Paul!
