Can you start a queen off in a five frame nuc. But put a board both sides to bring down to 3 frames. Jumbo frames. Or is this to big to soon for a start off for queen
Hi Mike, Greetings from Yorkshire! Love your videos. Glad to see you are on the mend. My question is, why Langstroth Nucs instead of National Nucs? Is it just the volume of the frames? I'm all on National- if I was to try this method, how many National frames would you recommend? 4? Best wishes, Rich
Richard James HI Richard down to volume of bees and laying room but national frames are still ok take a look at the b.s. honey box's that can be split the latest video I did
Thanks for sharing this, gave me some great information and inspiration for making my own 3 frame mating nucs. Basically 3 nucs in one normal brood box with separators between and a custom bottom board with entrances in 3 directions. Should accomodate a standard feeder as well, and make it possible to expand or unite within the same box.

Mantis Express you can do it on 2 frames if you want. Depending on how many bees you have in there
I’ve been using a 5 frame box with internal feeder and three frames works a treat
Thanks for another great video and hope the operation goes well. Does this mean you will stop using the mini mating nucs and move to the 3 frame nuc?
i was planning on cutting down on the mini nucs next year in favour of doing more II Queens and changing the rest over to the 3 frame langstroth nucs
Very nice Mike.I like the way you roll.Always great vids.
How many bees would you need to set up a 3 frame nuc? For the apideas it is a cup full?
