Theory: Maybe a girl he once liked either in Kitagawa Daichi or Seijoh (as a first year) lied to his face claiming she loved him back, took advantage of him, lead him on and scammed him for his money. Long story short she used him to get Oikawa and that's what made him cold and stern.
