- Patriotic Alliance deputy president Kenny Kunene has defended the party's visit to Israel following a backlash. Kunene says the circumstances of Palestine and Israel are different from apartheid in South Africa. Kunene and Usuf Chikte from the BDS Coalition SA debated the issue.

Clearly Gaza (Palestine) is an apartheid state where no Jew is allowed to even set foot there, let alone live. Christians are second class citizens, persecuted and denied many rights. I suggest you look up the Israeli Palestinian Interim Agreement on Gaza and the West Bank that Rais Arafat and Prime Minister Rabin signed on the White House Lawn in 1995. Judea and Samaria were divided as agreed between the parties.
This is of course recognised by International Law and however many times you say it isn't, does not make it so!
Each side agreed in the Interim Agreement to autonomy over their respective areas, with the right to expand the then existing communities. Various additional clauses cover shared areas and shared responsibilities.
For some reason Israeli towns and villages are always referred to in the media as "settlements" whilst Palestinian towns and villages are called "towns and villages".
As a matter of fact I suggest you pay a visit to the area - as I have done on many occasions - and you might be surprised to see the thousands upon thousands of Palestinian buildings that have been built without legal authority as new communities. Thus contravening the Interim Agreement.
You will discover that the so-called "illegal" Israeli settlements i.e. new communities are tiny, whilst on the Palestinian side there are whole illegal towns!
If you are wondering why I am talking of an Interim Agreement rather than a Permanent one, that is because after the signing the perfidious Arafat launched the 2000 - 2002 Intifida (bombs on buses and in cafes, on the streets, in markets, killing over 2000 Israeli civilians and maiming many more).
You may ask yourself why am I bothering to answer you at such length when it is clear that you are only here to spread the lies, and historical and legal facts will not change your erroneous statements one iota.

BDS has no right to tell PA where to consult for democracy or free markets. Apartheid is not the right word to use for the situation in Israel. The land question alone in Israel is complicated. History shows that Jews lived in Israel since ancient biblical times. They got invaded by multiple empires and Arabs are the last settlers in that region. The Jews are asking to return home but the approach they took is debatable and racism is playing a major role.

You don't seem to know that Jewish people have always lived in Israel. True that for many different periods different conquerers and occupiers were in control but Jews were still there. Sometimes thriving, sometime discriminated against. A modern return, which saw Jews coming in large numbers started in the 1800s when this small part of the Ottoman empire was neglected and barren.
Did you know that a census in 1860 in Jerusalem showed the Jews were the majority over all other groups and religions put together?
Absentee Arab landlords happily sold malarial infested swamps and patches of desert at inflated prices to the Jews.

The "Palestinians" were the Jews until 1948, when with the vote of the UN they became Israelis. (No Arab in the area called himself a "Palestinian" until 1967 when they lost the 6 day war and Arafat adapted the name).

My view is that we must fix home before trying to solve the problems of Palestine. BDS help us get our land back here in SA and maybe we'll understand your struggle in Palestine. I think another thing that is not spoken is that there are Indians in SA who to this day don't consider Africans as humans. And during colonialism their man Gandhi supported the oppression of Africans. During Bambatha's rebellion Gandhi petitioned the colonial state to absorb Indians into the army to fight against Africans. So my view is that for our progress as Africans we can work with anyone who shows interest in what we're trying to do for ourselves. We are a people who have been dehamanised by all these races in the world. We don't owe anyone our allegiance. Our first allegiance has to be to ourselves.
