    Last month, Kendall Jenner did a beautiful photoshoot for Vogue Spain where she was modeled as a ballerina and was shown dancing around in a studio wearing a tutu and ballet shoes. What started as a piece of art quickly turned into the target of an angry mob led by the dance community. Dancers from all over the world freaked out saying things like QUOTE - “I know Kendall Jenner's ballet ad is the least egregious of the KarJenner cultural appropriations, but as a ballerina of 17 yrs, I'm pissed.” Another said, “Ballet dancers don't train 40+ hours a week to be represented by Kendall Jenner and her fish feet... Also she is going to hurt herself.” Even famed dance teacher, Abby Lee Miller spoke out saying - “There are so many amazing dancers in the world … Kendall Jenner is not one of them!” Well today Kendall has finally spoken out on her blog to defend herself saying QUOTE - “With my Vogue Spain shoot, I didn’t even know I was going to be a ballerina until I went into hair and makeup. I never said I knew ballet and I didn’t practice beforehand. I just show up to do my job! I have so much respect for women who do their jobs really well and would never purposely try to offend anyone. It confuses me how people can get that upset when there are so many important things going on in the world. But, it’s obviously not going to stop me from working hard and being me.” She was doing her job people! No disrespect intended ballerinas. But I want to hear what you guys think about Kendall’s response so let me know in the comment section below and then as always, don’t forget to subscribe to Clevver News. Thank you, people like using words without know what they mean. It like they go "I'm mad and the other people who were mad about something used it too. Sounds good."
      Words have meaning people you can't just them around. You cause them to be less potent and hurt the next person's cause who actually uses it legitimately.

      +Hailucha Santos Just read it. Point remains that people are too easily offended. I create digital art for a living and I don't get piss offended if someone jokingly draws a stick figure or pauses with a paintbrush in their hand. My training took me 8+ years, not counting all the bullshit I get on a daily basis, and it has been a steep climb for a decent paycheck. Doesn't mean I'm going to put a stick up my ass because Kendall posed as an artist.

      sooooo should nurses get offended on Halloween when people dress up as them? just because nurses work 37+ hours a week, and work 10+ hour days not being able to go to the bathroom, and went to school for YEARS? a nurse is also a career. just because u put on some nurse shoes doesn't make u a nurse. but are they offended by people dressing up as them for Halloween? are firefighters offended when people dress up as them because they had to work hard? no. its not that big of a deal. stop getting so offended. sit down.

    • @shineon5841
      @shineon5841 7 лет назад +26

      I don't think "Dressing up as a dancer" is what MOST people are getting offended about. It's the fact that Vogue Magazine put Kendall in POINTE shoes. In the Ballet world, a young dancer trains hours every day for years in order to obtain their pointe shoes. To gain your pointe shoes is essentially a huge achievement which dancers take pride in and value very much. While pointe shoes are valued for the beauty, precision and hard work behind them, Vogue is practically displaying bad technique and lack of precision behind those shoes when getting Kendall to model in them- an image which ALL dancers work hard to avoid. Imagine if Kendall was portraying a hockey player, but she was holding the stick upside down, while still looking serious- hockey players would've took it as a joke. I'm just saying...

    • @SolOtis
      @SolOtis 7 лет назад +98

      Hi Maria, did I say it's difficult to be a ballerina? "Get a life" is a saying for get over it, not literally getting a life. I understand the hard work it is to becoming a dancer but this is a photoshoot and she's a model. That is the job. Now I understand if Kendall was to take a role in a ballet you've worked hard for then there's definitely a reason to be angry but this is the job she took.

    • @FlexyJSayers
      @FlexyJSayers 7 лет назад +71

      Maria Valentina Guichoux Actually in many spreads they get actual models to represent sports...that's the whole point of modelling. You place your model in positions to represent that circumstance. Why go through resource usage searching for a specific artist (dancer, sport player) when you can just dress your already present model like one?!

    • @SolOtis
      @SolOtis 7 лет назад +70

      I see models in sports shoots all the time. I'll hold a football in a picture does that mean I'm a footballer? You kind of just made my point a little stronger also with stating how a SPORTS magazine wants to show off a footballer they may get an actual player. Well Vogue is a fashion magazine so they'll hire a model wouldn't you think? If this was Ballet Magazine and they hire some model then perhaps that should be something to be up in arms about. I think it's pretty logical, sports/sports fashion/fashion ballet/ballet. I'm going to pass on making a comment of your example of replacing me in my family's "Christmas photoshoot."

    Kendall Jenner isn't the problem, she just did her job, Vogue Spain is. Ballet is an art form that takes decades to master. Vogue should've picked a ballerina to do the photoshoot.

    • @chelsea-tr5if
      @chelsea-tr5if 7 лет назад +93

      Maria Tego yeah but vogue is a fashion magazine. Obviously, they are going to put on their covers a model or a celeb. Vogue isn't going to pay a ballerina (unless she is also a model like Candice S) just to portray the proper positions a ballerina do for their photoshoots

    • @becool68
      @becool68 7 лет назад +20

      Maria Tego lack of perspective. It was not a Ballet lesson. Have you ever paid attention to what Kendall was saying on the Video?

    • @DenysMarcela
      @DenysMarcela 7 лет назад +60

      Maria Tego Why? Modeling is about act too and she was just doing a role. So now actors have to stop doing what they do because they don't represent professions properly and it's better that a real proffesional (a doctor for example) do the acting part to reprrsent his/her profession because they know how it is.

    • @kayleesnow1370

    It is not culture appropriation but it does suck that that modeling job could have been given to a ballerina who worked her ass off for years only to be given to a skinny chick who probably doesn't know 2nd or fifth position. Ballet is one of the most difficult pieces of art that one can put their body through. So I get why there was so much outcry by dancers everywhere.

      Triggered is a term that is used for a situation or image etc that causes someone with PTSD to have a panic attack. Triggered doesn't mean easily offended. People are triggered if they see something genuinely upsetting that makes them recall past trauma. Even if you don't understand the association. So yeah. Saying triggered in that way is derogatory.

    I agree with Abby Lee Miller. Vogue should of picked a ballet dancer to do the shoot, if they were going to market ballet clothing, shoes, or even do ballet poses. A ballet dancer is the embodiment of all those things. The pictures looked awful with the poses Kendall did, because she's not a trained ballerina. It's not Kendall's fault, it's Vogue. They just put a famous model who knows nothing of ballet on the shoot, to get more recognition. But it's not fair to all those male/female ballet dancers who could easily do the ballet shoot. Why not get someone who can do the job? People seem to forget ballet is not a theme, it's art.

And yes she's pretty and all but the only reason she somebody is because of Kim's sex tape. Kendall doesn't even have a real talent at least the other sister have a real job. i, personally, have been a dancer for only 4 years, which isn’t even that long, but the main reason this situation frustrates me is because she really could have injured herself. it takes years of training before it is safe to go en pointe, while she just did it in one day. however, i don’t think it’s her fault, as she said she’s just showing up to her job. it’s vogue’s fault for telling her to do unsafe moves that she probably wasn’t even aware could seriously hurt her.

People who can't/don't dance still wear ballerina stuff for like Halloween or as a basketball player, baseball player, etc. It literally was just a photo and they didn't choose a real dancer because she's known everywhere and vogue wants money.

    I'll explain for all the non ballet dancers that are out there. The photo of Kendall en Pointe is not just angry driving for us, but also painful to watch. Vogue Spain did a very reckless thing by giving her those, she's not wearing them properly. Pointe shoes can break your ankle and create injuries for life if you don't know How to use them. I don't understand why people blame Kendall, I mean it's really not her fault, those photos weren't this bad, I just can't understand why vogue didn't pick an actual dancer, it would have made way more realistic poses and would avoid any danger. Thankfully Kendall wasn't hurt, but it's very offensive for dangers that sacrifice their childhoods and would dream to be in her place after all the hours of training, while she did nothing like that. Honestly though, I don't really understand the hate she got. I mean its passed now, she definitely isn't the one to blame, she did her job, being a model, period.

      Being a ballerina is a lot of work starting at the age 3-5 years old and keep dancing 3-5 class per week and they has to feel the pain in such young
      Learning a lot of technique etc
      And everything wasn't easy it's not like learning hip hop or salsa
      Ballet is different
      N putting Kendal Jenner with out any preparation n know about ballet is quite rude to ballerinas I think ,but actually I think it's just a misunderstanding ballerinas should be mad at vogue since they the one who put her in that photo shoot

    She looked gorgeous in the photos but honestly, if you're going to do a shoot about ballet dancers, get a ballet dancer. Ballet dancers don't train their whole lives, going through injury after injury, having bleeding aching feet and toes every night just to have a pretty face with no technique to represent a community that works so hard from a young age. No hate on Kendall, I'm upset that vogue decided to choose her over a professional dancer that has the proper technique and training

      Mr. Magoo you don't know that. There could be a lot of athletes that don't like having models portraying their hard work. It's just that because Kendall Jenner is so much more famous that the media brought attention to it. If a photo shop is based on a sport, than the smartest thing to do is bring an athlete for the shoot so the model doesn't look like an idiot trying to imitate them.

      No kidding, I've only done modern dancing before and know how badly she could hurt herself trying to pull off some of the stereotypical poses they expect. It's all well and good to tell her to give them a leap but if she doesn't do it properly she could really hurt something. Especially with them not having told her so she had no time to stretch for action poses or consult anyone as how to properly pull off some things. Most likely why she looks like she's sitting for a fair amount of the pictures.

      i, personally, have been a dancer for only 4 years, which isn’t even that long, but the main reason this situation frustrates me is because she really could have injured herself. it takes years of training before it is safe to go en pointe, while she just did it in one day. however, i don’t think it’s her fault, as she said she’s just showing up to her job. it’s vogue’s fault for telling her to do unsafe moves that she probably wasn’t even aware could seriously hurt her.

      We are our own culture like any other sport, art or hobby. Dance has a long history that changed with the times just like anything else, look it up before making comments.
      My biggest concern was that they put her in pointe shoes which can look pretty but dancers work years for the strength needed in their legs, ankles, feet and core to not damage themselves when they go up on pointe. She could have seriously hurt herself if she tried anything properly. My anger is with Vogue and their apparent belief that you can just chuck anyone in a pair of pointe shoes without training and they won't hurt themselves.

      Someone who is not a trained dancer dressing up and posing as a ballerina is not cultural appropriation. Cultural appropriation is when white people wear elements of the culture of POC communities they have oppressed for years, and are still oppressing, as an accessory or costume. The dancing community is not in away oppressed or at a disadvantage and they do not suffer or face stigma when Kendall Jenner puts on a pair of pointe shoes and poses as a ballerina, so just relax.
      If y'all's concern really was for the fact that she could have hurt herself because she is not trained in the technique required for dancing in pointe shoes, you wouldn't have harassed, bullied and condemned her just for doing her god damn job. Sit down. Your 'culture' is not being appropriated and you are not concerned about Kendall, your community is literally just bullying a 21-year-old woman because she put on pointe shoes and you didn't like it. Stop trying to justify your bullying.

    • @clareflood412
      @clareflood412 7 лет назад

      I'm not saying that our culture was appropriated. The original comment asked what culture are ballerinas and i'm simply saying that we are our own culture and expressing my concern for her safety. To be perfectly honest I didn't give a shit about what Kendell Jenner did one way or another, not everyone agrees with or cares about what outspoken people in their communities say or think. Don't take the feelings of an entire community and assume everyone agrees.

      personally, i’m just frustrated because vogue took something that takes years of training to learn and had her do it in an hour or two. i’m not mad at kendall, like she said, she’s just doing her job. vogue really should not have put her en pointe without any training. also, if they wanted to have a ballet photo shoot, the least they could do is hire a real ballerina.

      Cecilia Thorne The thing is ballerinas train for years to get en pointe. Kendall Jenner instantly went up in pointe shoes making them look like a play toy, in actuality she could have been seriously injured and her feet would have been deformed. I don't think it is Kendall's fault, but I do believe that the people directing the photoshoot should have done their research. Also they made ballet look like it was something that people do just for fun. That is not the case, if you do ballet you better expect literal blood, sweat, and tears over in, and there is some seriously boring training before you're get to them beautiful, elegant, and fun things in ballet. Don't make something as beautiful as ballet look like child's play.

    For everyone commenting, "I don't understand why they're so sensitive..." you have not right to criticize people who have literally given up their lives to the art of ballet. I have been a ballerina for 11 years, and I cannot even begin to explain to you how utterly difficult our lives our. We have given up completely every minute of every day, our entire social lives, time spent with family, and so, SO many more sacrifices along the way. Why do it? Passion. No, I do not intend for this to be seen as a letter of complaint as it is perfectly not, however, a statement of truth to those who do not understand. So you have ballerinas in which all they have ever known is the beautiful yet ruthless world of ballet, and people like, let's say per chance, Kendall Jenner. The ballerina has complete knowledge and skill in this art form, and has dedicated her life to it. And then there is Kendall Jenner, a being who does not possess the grit, skill, determination, and talent of ballerina. Who gets asked to attend a ballet themed photo shoot for Vogue? Kendall Jenner. SHE is the one getting paid to represent hours of tears, blood, and sweat when quite frankly, it looks as if she hasn't even considered stepping foot into a ballet studio. The pictures prove my point completely.
    No, us ballerinas are not complaining or trying to draw attention to ourselves. It is simply that the fascinating, beautiful art form of ballet is being represented by people like Kendall Jenner. Ballet has been around for centuries, and it is one of the most pure, strict art forms you will ever discover.
    And Kendall Jenner decides to take it light heartedly and in a naive way, where she thinks the whole world will accept her, as she disrespects the whole community of people, who all they have ever known is wretched hard work, and the unforgiving world of our first true love, ballet.
    Say all you want, but if you are not a dancer nor have you ever experienced the life of one, you are only being arrogant and hypocrites.
    Kendall Jenner has shown utter disrespect, and quite frankly, she deserves the same amount of respect that she has given towards some of the most down to earth, honest hard working people you will ever meet; ballerinas.

I also can't stand how it seems people can't even breathe because it's copying the way someone else breathes 😒. Not everything is an insult!
    Why would a real ballet dancer want a modelling job? This spread was in Vogue, not Dance Spirit. Her technique in dance, or lack there of, is not being critiqued in Vogue. Her face, her body, and her clothes are being critiqued. She's doing her job. Get a grip people. Get a grip.
