I watched this bridge being built for years. I had many trips to the South of France and Spain.
I thought i would give it one crossing at least.
Sadly my mother died not long before it opened and had to stop work to look after my children.
I loved driving my truck through Millau, a beautiful place.

Beautiful bridge, I think Norman Foster designed it. It looks very elegant considering it’s size.

it is particularly great to drive on it when fog is just under the road : it is like driving in the sky

Super cool prof. I was looking for water or some other reason for the bridge. Glad you explained the situation. As if you would leave me hanging like that.

Things went quiet a while and I'm glad to find out it was only a vacation. That bridge is so tall, one would almost feel flying buttresses or a larger base was needed. Even though it is reinforced concrete and not stone, it has that unstable feel to it.

Hmmm 5 minutes ago, about 3pm or 15:00 eastern standard time. I would guess your time is 8 pm or 20:00 purhaps 9 pm or 21:00 in the evening. Like to look at such bridges and review their construction. Not a bad video.

I don't see how people see oppressive artificial structures in beautiful landscapes as 'beautiful' personally. Somehow the old arched viaducts don't seem as oppressive and unnatural, even though they were chunkier and blocked out most of the view.. I still appreciate the engineering and practical use side of it. I'd have preferred a tunnel under the value, aesthetically speaking. Certainly utilitarian and huge.

oh what a piece of art! this might be the ideal long trip once I have my first EV somewhere middle of next year. the bridge looks so minimalistic and clean that i wouldn't want to go there with a stinky car 🙂

    That's impressive..
In chicago we've managed to spend that much $ just renovating an old el station that will never pay off it's construction!?!? (elevated train) ...Our big summer bridge is a cheap toll over the "skyway" into the natural habitat of indiana. The Skyway, while impressive in is own right is a legendary relic of the industrial era. worth a look on the intertwine or a drive in real live too!
    again..
...that is one impressive span man..

Amazed that pylons are only 5m diameter and piles only 15m deep. Obviously it works! Very impressive structure. A bridge in the sky.

I have seen the discovery series about it, at places its higher than the eiffel tower and i have been on top of that, and the eiffel tower is wide. These towers looks impossible slender .. but i guess its fine as all the loads are on top and not from the sides. Around our villages they build almost fifty of these windturbines of which the tower is about half the height of the bridge deck and they are way more slender. Its amazing what they can build.

I thought 'Pont Owain Glyn Dwr' (second Severn crossing) was impressive but this is awesome ... I'd be a bit scared of driving over it though, it's a long way down without a parachute :-)
