i really like to work whatever the players do back into my idea of the storyline. unless you have some problem players, it should be a collobrative effort for everyone involved in your game

I thought of a campaign i call willpower because the players will contact side characters to try and derail the campaign and distract them from the main issue which is ALWAYS affecting the story.

At the same time make sure not to overload your players with plot. Make sure that an upcoming important event is a week away from when the players arrive in town every once and awhile to give them some breathing room.
