The input impedance of the MN potential circuit in modern instruments is very high (> 10 Mohms), In other words, the tiny current drawn (picoamps) does not affect the potential being measured. The problem with the 100% duty cycle IP is that EM voltage transients will be included. EM transients are at their worst with low-resistivity ground, and long wires close to each other. That is why time-domain IP systems wait 0.5s before integrating the IP effect. It is one of the reasons to use the dipole-dipole array for profiling, which minimises such transients, as well as having some other advantages.
