I enjoyed the comedians that did not use foul language to make people laugh, but found humor from observing people in every day life situations...The Starebuck joke blew me away

Thanks for watching. I used to host a dark comedy show in Toronto. They edited out my really dark stuff. It gets much darker when you see me live in a club.

I checked, and I guess résumé doesn't really work when the English language uses it in its own way. The word itself, means "summary" and the document isn't as long as CVs in English Canada, US, or Australia. I do have a bone to pick with people picking at why the only time military personnel don't use initials is when they're actual initials. Simple: It would be confusing. Postal Codes are one thing, but if you didn't use code for initials, it'd be a headache trying to differentiate between actual code terms, and someone *spelling out words*.

There's being not politically correct for a joke, I know, but the r-word is a slur against the disabled community and I hope you stop using it in your shows, it adds nothing.

Hi BeachGnome. I take the language I choose to use in my act extremely seriously. In fact, language and its use are not only what I do for a living, but an interest of mine in general. I regularly read books like "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves" and "The Stuff of Thought", a wonderful book with a chapter on profanity by Linguist Steven Pinker.
As far as anyone can tell, the N-Word IS a slur against black people. The word was one created with the sole purpose of describing people with black skin in a disparaging way. When used as it was intended to be used N-word can only be taken as offensive. I would not shy away from using this word in my act either, however the context would have to be appropriate. As we know, the word has been co-opted by the black community and used in a friendly way as a way to take the power back. Retarded, however, was not a word created with the purpose to hurt the mentally disabled.
      re·tard·ed [ri-tahr-did]
1.characterized by a slowness or limitation in intellectual understanding and awareness, emotional development, academic progress, etc.
This by the way is exactly the way I have intended to use the word, in fact my follow up line is "There are LIMITATIONS" The targets of my joke are the average people who do not understand their natural limitations, and those people that have the courage to call themselves "loved ones" but not the courage to be honest and help them discover those limitations. "Hey, you're tone deaf, maybe singing isn't for you, but you're really good at math, why not become an accountant for a living and if singing makes you feel good, do it at karaoke, or in your bedroom and not pursue it as a career."
The N-Word has been appropriated by the black culture in an attempt to take the power out of the word, but the opposite has happened to the word retarded. People have appropriated or better yet, misappropriated it to give and take offence. BIZARRE!
The truth is, I AM using it to offend, in the same way the words stupid and dumb offend. Just like their tone deafness offended my ears.
I am NOT using it to offend the mentally disabled.
The word DOES add something, not only does it have a nice rolling 3 syllable sound but it began this conversation. Had I used the word stupid, I would not have heard from you.
      Andrew

When people use it as an insult, it's base is from the disability, not the other definition. That is where it's power comes from.
I myself am mentally disabled. I am autistic, and suffer from severe anxiety and depression. I watch comedy to brighten my spirits, but the r-word does the opposite. I was abused and the most common word that would be paired with it was the r-word. As such, it has become a word that can and has caused me to fall into severe attacks.
When you say it you may not mean harm against the disabled community, but hearing the word itself brings harm to many who have struggled with the stigma of mental illness.
It's like the fa-word. When people say it they might not MEAN it as a horrible slur against the LGBTQA+ community but the reason it became an insult in the first place was from burning gay people like they were kindling.
In my experience, it is always easier to change my language than to feel the pressure of knowing my words might cause someone great distress.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
Just for fun, feel free to check out this list of words that can replace a lot of ableist slurs.
