I have done a similar build one storey over the garage and a rear extension adhering behind it, we hired an architect and a structural engineer prior to seeking builders for a quote, we have a complete design and calculations given for how footings and foundations were built/reinforced and where should the new sewage and rainwater pipes go as a guideline for our builders to follow thru. Suggested please advise that friend of yours to hire a structural engineer to follow-up before proceeding with anything further. BTW, the pole you were holding was not used for digging but supporting the ceiling for load bearing wall to be removed. To supplement, extension for one storey above the existing footing requires permission from your local council, retrospective application might be challenging and is subject to baskets of factors which might result in being asked for demolishment and filed to the court for penalty in the worst scenario.

屋頂內，只是放insulation 以隔熱或冷，及接駁電線和水管去到全屋，好少人會改建成房，因為唔只需要駁水管和電線，甚至三邊牆可否承抬起所有改為粗木，及地板？工程太大，非常之無謂。除非折左屋頂，加建
所有改建築結構，都要向地區政府申請。香港人喜歡物盡其用，但有時在外地，屋的改做，變咗三不像！
仲有loft高度根本不適合改成睡房

其實香港村屋某啲基礎設施都有呢啲問題，不過香港人變通能力、速度都係非常之勁。其實拆舊有extension同埋地基。 灌入英泥做新地基。其實可以好快….。香港大把人有僭建。不過英國要architect 人搞。

其實我哋嘅builder來報價時已經問咗我哋下層extension 是什麼年份興建，他們一早已說明要先看地基才決定，所以，屋主應該一早有心理準備的，不是工程開始了才掘地基的，還要BC睇過先批你繼續的。
