Hi Ralfy, it is nice to see a re-review of a whisky you reviewed three years ago. In addition, it is even more 'nice,' for me now that it is available in my area and I have it in my library. I did notice that you malt mark changed a bit from three years ago. Still a good dram no matter the mark difference.
Glengoyne 18 is a true gentleman amongst single malt Scotch whiskies. Classic, refined, interesting, elegant, balanced, well-behaved, charming... and not too expensive i.e. not for snobs. You have to shop around though, I've seen price differences of up to € 17,50 (in NL).
I visited Glengoyne (2016) & yes, it is a beautiful setting. I liked the angel's share soot on the dunnage house. My ancestors came from just south of Glasgow in what is now Moscow, Scotland.
I bought a bottle of this just the other week, must have been ESP! I wish I'd done so much earlier... Glengoyne 18 where have you been all me life! But wait a minute, only 87? After that glowing review, that song of praise? 90 for sure!
Glengoyne is just lovely and so delicious. I had the 10y, 12y and 15y and I liked each one. so I'm looking forward to trying the 18y and the cask strength
I was at the distillery I think you are reviewing next a month ago well worth a visit as I'm sire you will agree we were the only Scottish people in our group on the tour all the others were from outside the UK made it even better. The distillery only bottles are well worth it... unless it was the other place lol.
21yo, 25yo, Teapot Dram. Oh how I love Glengoyne. Actually I've tasted the 18yo just once on a whisky fair. There are always other bottles getting in my way :D
For Glengoyne, I love the interview that Charlie MacLean did with the distillery manager Robbie Hughes. Look it up here on the RUclips on SingleMaltTV...it is informative and entertaining...much like *Ralfy* . ;)
*Concerning the Feng-Shui of distillery provenance:* do the distillers have explanations of it in rational terms or are the conditions and influences too complex to analyze as of yet ?
Thanks Ralfy. I was just looking into this malt yesterday in fact and saw your earlier review in which you rated it a 91, IIRC. Wondering if this was just how the dram struck today or if something significant has changed in the bottle?
@@aasche04 yeah... I thought that was kinda odd also. I guess he was just really feeling it last time and not quite as much this time? He does say that he doesn't reference prior reviews and just reviews what's in front of him. I know I have malt moments with the same malt that vary in enjoyment from night to night.
I know what a junkie is, but what are the other two to avoid in Glasgow? Jakies? Daffwheeskeemies (that's what it sounded like - no clue how to spell it)? :-)
PNWesty jakey is an alcoholic, usually destitute, daff wee schemey is a person who resides in a housing scheme who may be of a criminal nature. I read a few Irvine Welsch novels ten years ago, these terms are used a lot.
Now I am a bit irritated: In your first review you gave Glengoyne 18 91 points. 99% of your ratings range from 82 to 92 points - so 4 points is a huge difference in such a rating spectrum! What happened? Is the bottle really so different? My impression was you enjoyed it quite much. So why 4 points less?
Aye, fond memories of blustery whisky review 55. Good job you had that number 1 velcro-cut so close to the wood otherwise the bonnet would've sailed to Glasgow or even Cambeltown.
The glengoyne of 3 years ago was no better than the one of today, that is a fallacy. I get a bottle every year and it has not changed hardly at all. Just regular variations in barrels used. As good today as it was 3 years ago. My guess is Ralfy rating is a little more discerning today than it was 4 years ago. I will say, glenlivet 18 is good but not as good as this, so it certainly should not have been rated higher, though it is not heavily sherried like goyne is.
You had a review 8 years ago on the same bottle. Then you gave a 91 points score and in this review you gave a 87 points! What’s going on then? Are their standard dropping?
Hey Ralfy, thanks for the review! Do you mean the "once 12yo but now nas" cask strength version, or is there another 12yo cs out there? PS The Teapot Dram is pretty good, but a bit pricey.
Ralfy how does a (Glenfiddich) Solara cask work if u'r alwayz adn fresh malt 2 th cask? is it an oldr malt that gets 15yo "fresh" malt added 2 tht oldr malt? on th face of it, its a bit confusin cuz if yur adin fresh malt 2 a 15yo, thn its no longr a 15yo ...rite? we need a RalfyRevu on true Solara caskin...frm wines 2 malt. Thnz Ralfy.
@ralfy I tasted the Glengoyne 12, 15 & 18 year Old at tasting in The Netherlands. I liked the 15 year Old the best, most complex (even then the 18 year oId) like to mention this 15 year old Malt.
Thanks 🙏 for the review, learned a few things for sure. Thinking of getting one for Father’s Day this year, just quite expensive here in Australia, around $160 🥃
So... Glengoyne 18 scores 87, while Glenlivet 18 scores 91? With all due respect to Ralfy, but probably even my cat would score them the other way around :D

Glengoyne makes some really nice juice - thanks for the review!
my favorite distillery GLENGOYNE is. very elegant whisky. made my evening this did.
Its a brilliant distillery
elegance .. pure elegance ..

Thanks for another excellent review Ralfy.
Glengoyne is just lovely and so delicious. I had the 10y, 12y and 15y and I liked each one. so I'm looking forward to trying the 18y and the cask strength
Springbanker I've always enjoyed Glengoyne products. Had the 12 and 15 yo' s so far.
why dont the bottles in the usa tell if the bottle is colored or not????
Mr International The bottle of 15 I had said natural color if I remember correctly. Bought it in md.
glengoyne aint coloured
If you get a chance try the Teapot Dram as its insanely good

Hey Ralfy. You have already reviewed Glengoyne 18yo in review #472.
Hmmm...could the next review be an expression from the smallest distillery in Scotland?
Think Glengoyne 18 is a good value for the price.
For Glengoyne, I love the interview that Charlie MacLean did with the distillery manager Robbie Hughes. Look it up here on the RUclips on SingleMaltTV...it is informative and entertaining...much like *Ralfy* . ;)
*Concerning the Feng-Shui of distillery provenance:* do the distillers have explanations of it in rational terms or are the conditions and influences too complex to analyze as of yet ?
. . . science is not there yet, I suggest ambient electrostatic balance and elemental provenance.
...so the Wee Free Men have a hand in it as well, d'snae ? And it might better be called "Feegle's Share", them must have the ken of it !
Thanks Ralfy. I was just looking into this malt yesterday in fact and saw your earlier review in which you rated it a 91, IIRC. Wondering if this was just how the dram struck today or if something significant has changed in the bottle?
Curious I have a bottle with 40%
Chilfiltered but this isn’t mentioned. Is your fondness of this distillery clouding your vision? ;-)
They just rose their price this week
Now $160 in Phoenix.
Hey Ralfy! This is a Re-review (whisky review 472).
And it went from 91 to 87

Hmm sounds like ballechin could be next!
Ballechin it is :)

. . . i simply mark as i find it ! older Glengoyne 18's were better and also my palatte was less fussy compared to now.

The Teapot is delicious, such a great drop
. . . great dram, shame about the cost with the T'pot.
I can seen my ancestors running shine right now.
What does that mean?
My Father's ancestry is linked to Buchanan, so there a chance my ancestors where running still in the area
Jeez - what is with the massive scoring difference - 91 in review 472. and only 87 in this review?
18:01 - George Grant or George Smith, Ralfy?
. . . George Smith !
On particularly good form today Ralfy, keep it up, sláinte!
194th ?

Hey Ralfy.
Can you please review Benriach 20?
@ralfy I tasted the Glengoyne 12, 15 & 18 year Old at tasting in The Netherlands. I liked the 15 year Old the best, most complex (even then the 18 year oId) like to mention this 15 year old Malt.
. . . I agree, good casks on show !
Ralfy: Fan of Dr Who?
Thanks 🙏 for the review, learned a few things for sure. Thinking of getting one for Father’s Day this year, just quite expensive here in Australia, around $160 🥃
I have just priced this in my city. $228.00 cdn.
Bought it last year for 100$ at a Duty Free! At the time, it was 200$ at SAQ in Quebec.
100$ is a great price compared to its current price but still so reasonably priced here in the UK
quality Scotch and Quality review! Thanks and cheers:)
What to see here ? He gave 91 points 4 yrs ago n now 87 here on same whiskey . Doesn’t make sense
sory Ralfy it was nesesary!
but to parafraze a clasik
"...2day we setle all famly biznis..." circa Godfather 1972. lol
cheers maltM8
in whisky review 472 - Glengoyne 18yo @ 43% you gave it 91/100 ;-) that's a big change over years 4 points less
. . . it is, time does that along with different cask influence.
Is everyone in Scotland named Glen? 'Cause that's the impression I get from their whiskies.
A rather good 18 yr old..but never on offer..pity as its expensive!😫🥃🥃🥃🏴
46% much better .
So... Glengoyne 18 scores 87, while Glenlivet 18 scores 91? With all due respect to Ralfy, but probably even my cat would score them the other way around :D
bgsamurai agreed Glenlivet sucks! Goyne all the way!!!
Wow - 3 people posted "First"...
