While this idea makes some nervous Ray believes A.I. surpassing our own intelligence is the only way for mankind to take the next step forward. The author of “How to Create A Mind” discusses his optimism behind a hybrid future on this episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu.

Ray Kurzweil is a true visionary, and he has been a reference of mine for years. He actually took time to answer questions that I had about the Singularity when I was in high school a few years ago when I emailed him. He even sent me a signed copy of his book! Great interview Tom!
That's pretty cool man
MorbidManMusic it'd still be cool as his staff represents him.

Let me correct your lapsus calami -- he is a true delusionary.

Without having personal passion, it's hard for someone to truly have self motivation to make a difference, agreed.

When a man wears two watches... you know he means business.
Bryan Greco when you are a futurist you jump from one spiral of time to the other and you absolutely not need watches. When you do lobbies business it is different...
My husband is a watchmaker. When friends or clients ask him what watch does he think they should buy, or which watch does he recommends, his first comment is to ask, what do they want it to do. Watches do many more things than tell time.
“Man is something that shall be overcome.
Man is a rope, tied between beast and overman - a rope over an abyss.
What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra
Siim Land right, fasting could give us better results absolutely free, vs using pills and supplements is kind of addiction and dependency. Nobody proved that using pills and supplements really can prolong one's life. Most centenarians didn't use them and those who did lived just like regular people. Best results have been shown by people who lived naturally.
Biggest delusion of a man is that he could be a god.
Siim Land or we all die and become oil for the next go in a few billion year. Probably a quarter of our size that we are now.
But that rug .... if only that could be overcome.
lol Siim you're everywhere
Ray is having an entry type of lucid dream if it's one at all. When I have had lucid dreams I have been deeply asleep, not in that light state where you are almost awake. It is an unquestionable experience where you become completely aware and conscious but realize you also deeply asleep. I think some people have never had a true lucid dream but wish they had and this sounds like one of those.
Ray is wearing 2 watches. That's how much more time he has.
By the look of him I would say the opposite..
yeah can anyone explain my why though?
He doesn't, that why these predictions are so off-the-charts optimistic.
Freemason does that, Im not sure hes one.
Illuminati for sure.

I used to work inside of lucid dreams a number of times, I have a memory trick that works for me for carrying ideas over to waking life.
Such as?
Oops didn't spot the comment a year ago asking what the memory trick is that I use.
The particular memory trick that works for me is to associate my findings with an animal, like a penguin. I'll put all of the information I need "inside" a penguin. When I wake up I'll think of penguins and then remember all the stuff.
I learned this from someone else, I think from some documentary or something like that.
Omg, I’ve done this type of dreaming to solve engineering problems when I was in college and now, my dreams mostly sort out personal situational stress. I love that this came up in this interview. Makes me consider utilizing dreaming more intentionally by thinking of individual work problems before sleep.
Meagan Alyse native American medicine person... Yes definitely 😍😍😍😍
Once you do that... You can do that awake 😍😍😍
Soo.. you dreamt about making sandwiches?
The more you start doing it, the less good sleep you get. I don’t recommend it, I’ve been doing it for decades now.
Same.
I thought everyone did that?
Just so you know, if you've watched this interview with Ray Kurzweil you've already seen them all. He says the exact same thing each and every time.
Muttonchops McGillicuddy STILL? That’s disappointing. Thanks for saving me the half-hour.
Shecklesmack Well, to be fair, I've only watched maybe 5 or 6 things on Kurzweil here on RUclips over the last several years but yeah, whether it's a seminar or one on one Interview, it's basically always the exact same thing. Very rarely have i seen him stray from the script. Whether that's his fault or people just not asking interesting enough questions is a different story.
Muttonchops McGillicuddy I’ve been following him for over a decade and he has barely changed what he says at all.
Shecklesmack Yeah, i mean, all you have to do is watch the Transcendent Man documentary which is a good summary for the average person to know what he's about. Ray's a smart guy though so i assume it's more of a marketing strategy than anything else. He has a default narrative for the media and anyone who wants more info will have to buy his books, haha.
Muttonchops McGillicuddy the lucid dreaming part was knew to me.
Powerful stuff, love the bit about the 4 bridges. Tom this guy is going to help you live forever!
One of your best interviews. You were incredibly well prepared and it’s obvious he was impressed by the quality of your questions. Saved this video into my “favorites”.
Dear Meagan,
I agree with you , l also have used this type of dream psychology, but more intuitively, dreams tell you where you are @ , whom may not be the best relationship for you on a much deeper level ,etc ,if you meditate regularly this will be a given ,we are connecting to our energetic level , many movement disciplines will also teach you this & how to apply it . I thank Tom ,he brings us amazing content, we can only grow from this
How to Create a Mind is absolute must read...at least twice. Have been considering his projections since the days of the Kurzweil synthesizer. Thanks Tom! Have been waiting for this episode for a long time.
You were a very early adopter of Ray. Impressive!

I absolutely love Ray Kurzweil. RUclips and Ray Kurzweil are my favorite things/people about Google/Alphabet. What a brilliant, wonderful mind and person.
The look on Tom’s face when Ray describes his vision of the singularity is absolute gold.
But will it lead to a future where a man doesn't have to spell out his web address to get people to sign up for his newsletter? Only time can tell.
Here's where he talks about this.... 28:47
When Ray talks about backing ourselves up just blows me away, is he talking about the future in Alter Carbon Gosh we will definatlEy need more SPACE.
PS love his logic and rationality on the world getting better.
He has no clue what better means, otherwise he'd shut his mouth permanently and go to a nuthouse where he belongs.
Kurzweil is definitely a brilliant man, I've seen many of his predictions and creations and I'm not disputing that. But he has two watches on in this video. Could it be he's so successful because he has twice as much time available?
One is a traditional watch the other is a smart watch likely to measure health markers: steps, BP, HR, sleep.
This man is on such a different level he's rocking two watches!
Boosh! You got the legend himself! I hope that future he describes with us merging with technology is it good one and not as scary as it sounds at times.
I really enjoyed this episode, thank you! 😊
Thanks Tom ♥ ♥ ♥ :D amazing video as always
I once practiced lucid dreaming 3 years ago when i read about it on a book in librivox. I remember i had 3 dreams that occured that i was aware that i was dreaming, during that i wrote over 30 dreams on my journel whenever i woke up in the morning.
Ray Kurzweil is very intelligent! His predictions in regard to the human brain and intelligence are quite insightful.
Yes, they bring an insight that he's stupid and insane...
It's amazing how precise his predictions have been so far, especially about the AI Technology development!
Also, I remember him quite clearly in a documentary experimenting with about 40 supplements a day he was taking at the time, maybe some 20 years ago or so. The results both on him and on some other volunteers were amazing! He was such a good influence on me! I started with that strategy back then because of him, and I'm happy I take supplements regularly ever since then. I look and feel a lot younger than my peers, so grateful! 😊😘
that toupee makes me question all of his choices and claims)
Wait are toupees out and evil now should i burn mine? Maybe wearing a toupee is on of these extention treatments he is talking about ;D
@Insensitive X excuse me?
@Insensitive X i hope you are trolling
Is it a toupee or hair plugs is the 10x1,000 exponential question.
That’s unfortunate, but he does have a good track record.
Thank you for sharing this! I took a page full of notes 😃
he´s my favorite ray kurzweil !!! such an amazing visionary man !!!!!!
18:48 by the "diligent" public, do you mean the wealthy? Will we truly continue to base fellow humans value upon the monetary growth they generate?
Can definitely do his version of lucid dreaming in the afternoon too. Usually a heavy impulse to nap washes over and if you just sit back and close your eyes for awhile...boom.
Ray Kurzweil is a great mind and beside all his accomplishments and his work, he also has some really cool concepts when it comes to thinking strategies ( e.g the pre-sleep preparing). It's a pity these minds aren't interviewed more often with questions outside of their comfort zones.
Outsmart & Outwork
That's true but consider that they might not conscent to an interview unless they are only asked a predefined list of questions or if the subject matter itself is predefined and somewhat limited in scope. Which is fair, I think.

Great episode. It's fascinating that even though he was describing the technological singularity in a positive light, it was so easy for my mind to deep dive into why those things might end up hurting the human race, like what form inequality would take if some people had access to this technology and others didn't, how this much intelligence might be abused, etc.
Which really went back to an earlier point he made--we are badly equipped to see how good the world is right now. Negativity bias is a wild ride!
Congrats on getting such an incredible voice on the show!
Brittany Robinson Those concerns you have are still absolutely valid and something we MUST be vigilant against.
Brittany Robinson it's the end of the homo sapiens. Time for the next generation✌⚡🤖
Hey but don't forget that as we will evolve, people will get more exposed. I don't think it will even be a possibility for "bad" people to use this to their advantage, as we will see through it.
I think that your concern is actually what's happening right now and in the past but we are leaving this.

We don't have to be here as a species to make it...

I actually just voiced a similar concern. I can think of a lot of situations where this could create a huge disadvantage for those who can't afford it.
That's really a great interview where the questions were intelligible for the majority. The all was giving a so claire view of what will be our future than I decide without any hesitation to share this tube on the Facebook group "Future World".

Supplimenting vitamin B12 (and vitamin D if you don't live in the equatorial regions) is all you really need to know to live well for longer by joining the movement to help yourself and the environment by turning to a exclusive whole food plant based diet. And the well understood practice of fasting (which would have happened to us a lot in ancient times) is actually the one of our bodies best cleansing abilities as it will effectively use every unessential fuel source in the body which includes cancerous cells. But fasting does require calm and support so the time do it needs to be earned, other than fasting keeping active is the winner.

i don't really get why people are so obsessed with him taking supplements. this person made a lot of breakthroughs technologically over the past decades. some of which we enjoy today and his though patterns are actually interesting, a person who thinks beyond. When the upgrades to the human brain come in the 2030's, and later, won't those who can't afford it be massively disadvantaged? I know some will say that the benefits will trickle down but I still tend to think this will create an even larger gap between wealthy and the general population.
Nah, in all liklihood, it'll work the other way. But the most important metric is the floor of poverty, not the distance between the poor & the rich. For instance, I wouldn't really care if there were trillionaires running around if my worst-case scenario was being able to afford rent in a 2-bedroom apartment, fast internet, a decent car, & plenty of food.
The internet has been an extremely powerful tool for raising the floor of poverty in countries that have full access to its benefits (an umbrella that is widening every year), both because it gives access to new employment opportunities, but also because it gives access to new educational opportunities, & it makes previously unheard voices easy to hear.
I suspect that direct brain-computer interfaces & brain augmentation will be a *much* more powerful tool. For instance, it's a very powerful, compelling experience to be able to see what life is like for someone living through hardship on the other side of the world from their own perspective thanks to RUclips, but I think it would be a much more compelling experience to be able to literally experience other people's memories & feel their emotions thanks to direct brain-computer interfaces... & I can hardly imagine the jobs that will be made possible.
There's a great saying that rich folks get premium access to this technology when it's expensive & doesn't work. Everyone else gets access to it when it's cheap & works very well. So don't worry too much. The track record for improved technology has typically been an improved life for everyone, not just the rich.
Ben L who told you you get to get a say how the wealth of other people is distributed?
A few rich folks bought the first Apple Lisa computer compared to the billions of folks that use an advanced hardware called smartphones that is superior in everyway to that acient device called Lisa, right? Again, it did take time to mature, like 1,2 or 3 decades later & it's all good.

One metric not mentioned much in a chauvinistic culture is "felt experience" or emotions. I'm curious if depression per capita is going or down, enthusiasm for life etc. Suicide rates are one indicator. If people feel like shit it is not getting "better" to live longer.

Mr. Kurzweil has to have two watches if we wants to keep the track of time when he jumps between this dimension and the next.
