    The visualizer is quite a handy tool. I bought one a few weeks ago for use with the trumpet. I use it mainly to check my embouchure setup. Also, I have used it for lip buzzing exercises by holding the trumpet rim end with the thumb and index fingers of both hands; that prevents any tendency to push the rim further into the lips. I also buzz through the trombone rim in the exercises. The benefit was a more relaxed approach for work on high notes on both the trumpet and the trombone.

      I agree, the visualizer helps you back off jamming your lips together especially in the upper register. It’s a great tool to help you see what’s going on “under the hood”. I use the trumpet side to help me stay true to my lip formation in the upper register.

    Hi
    Great video. I wish
    you demonstrated more, maybe voice while we watch you demonstrate. I'm rebuilding my embechure because ya da ya da...
    I moving to change to what your teaching. So 10 minutes of continually reinforcing and showing the basic embechure, the "candles" one, would be super helpful. And I'm asking like it's a thing. Just like that your working to help all of us recover from the M embechure.

      I'll consider adding voiceovers to my demonstrations. As far as making a specific video demonstrating what you discussed, I don't know if that would make for great content. However, if you are interested in working on specific exercises for your embouchure, I'd be happy to work with you in a private lesson.

    I am trying to understand and practicing the more open formation. I can feel how it opens up my tone from low F# to E on top of the staff (I am a trumpet player). Beyond that I have no idea how this should work. Sometimes it works and it gives me a nice and open high (top staff) G, but as often it only gives me air. What is your concept of taking it into the high register? Obviously you know or feel how to do it, because you demonstrate it, but I have no clue as how to maintain the lips relaxed and yet get them to vibrate faster. I have seen Greg Spence demonstrate the same principle, and also with him, I don't get that.

    Do you have a chop shop focusing on inhalation? Thanks

    • @TheChopsShop
      @TheChopsShop  3 года назад +6

      I don’t have a video on that topic and I probably won’t because active inhalation can be detrimental to brass playing. Your body is full of air, after you release the air, all you have to do is relax your diaphragm and you will automatically fill up again. This action happens involuntarily approximately 20,000 times a day. There is no need to inhale air on top of that.

      @@TheChopsShop Very well said. I'm still trying to get out of my own way when inhaling and just let my body do it's thing... Love this channel!

      I bought my visualizer from a music store on the internet. If you goggle “embouchure visualizer” it should come up.

    Does it matter if the visualizer has the same exact rim as the mouthpiece your playing?

    • @TheChopsShop
      @TheChopsShop  3 года назад +1

      The size of the visualizer compared to your mouthpiece size should not matter much. The visualizer is used to help create a picture for your brain more so then creating a feeling for your lips.
