- The Allegheny Valley Railroad transfer from Glenwood to Island Avenue returns east with four Geeps and over 60 cars. As they pop out of the tunnel in notch 8, smoke from the train's uphill climb continues to pour out from the tunnel portal, creating a surreal cloud of pungent exhaust. This tunnel is on the former Baltimore & Ohio P&W Subdivision.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video of the Schenley Train Tunnel! I used to live in that neighborhood and had a community garden (of just me) above and next to the tunnel years ago. It was always such a rush when it came through the tunnel blowing it's whistle. I always had to leave fast to get away from all the pollution, even though that pollution had a foggy beauty to it also! I've since moved but I'm happy to say I can still hear the train whistle in my new neighborhood too.
Awesome, nothing like a smoking exit out of a tunnel with great power!
Damn! I was choking just watching this on video, Imagine being in the tunnel!
Nice video!
Spectacular catch, what an awesome lashup!
very nice video of my namesake.
Great video. The grade eastbound here is 1.3% and 1.38% westbound I believe.
Now just imagine have solid Alco's or steam engines going through there, that'd be pure heaven to me LOL I'm forever a smoke man when it comes to trains. Nice catch and lash-up
Love the tunnel footage, can at least get an idea, this is a long train
I’ve seen ex-KCS grey units like that on Wheeling & Lake Erie
where does this railroad run?
