    HI Gary! Thanks for being there for all of us! We have a one tank 5 button clack iron filter version just over 1 year old and works great! The plumber did put a bag of greensand it instead of clack that the old one had and I requested for this one; Prob. BC that is was delivered at time of install and he said he changed his mind! The unit cycles every 5 days and but it blows out the green sand fines out to the cold water line to the cloths washing machine and up the 2nd floor bath tub. Would not be surprised if it is at the bottom of our 50gal hot water tank too. We are just treating a small amount of iron. I do have a Airthhreal 40mU, 20gpm spin down filter that I was planning on installing just in front of the washer as a temp.measure but I have a feeling it will need to be rebed sooner than we wanted to. I also wonder if having 6, 90deg. fittings on the exhaust water Side could be a prob. for the system. Could you share you thoughts on this? Thanks Again..

      I don't like or ever use Greensand anymore, so that was a mistake. Also, the drain line should not be restricted, so ui ahve concerns about that too. Also, 3 days should be the regen frequency, not 5.

    There *are* automatic spin down filters . Looks the same with a electronic box where the valve is. I think it just runs on a timer.

    • @GarytheWaterGuy
      @GarytheWaterGuy  5 месяцев назад +1

      Correct. But they are often on and then taken off the market, not sure why, but it makes me suspicious about their reliability.

    • @donutz1
      @donutz1 5 месяцев назад

      @@GarytheWaterGuy Your suspicions are correct. I just installed the automatic spin down that @paulspvk6049 mentioned. In theory its amazing, in real life the auto-flush spin down effect doesn't flush, causing major build up on the screen filters. bacteria combine iron (and manganese) and oxygen to form deposits of "rust," bacterial cells, and a slimy material that sticks to the 100 micron filter. Going to a 200 micron filter doesn't help, because the spin down function, even if run daily, does not properly backwash the screen.

    Hi Gary. Thanks for many great videos. What are the pros and cons of placing the whole house filter right after the well pump before the pressure tank so that the pressure tank receives filtered water? I'm thinking that the wear and tear on the pump may increase as the filter fills with particles, but this may be solved by using a coarse filter and doing frequent filter draining and changes.

    • @GarytheWaterGuy
      @GarytheWaterGuy  2 месяца назад

      There is neglible upside to placing it right after the pump, before the pressure tank, it just keeps the pressure tank cleaner. The major downside is if that filter ever clogs you'll burn out your pump. Which is why I never install any filters before the pressure tank.

    • @DrivingPhilippines
      @DrivingPhilippines 2 месяца назад

      @@GarytheWaterGuy We have water from our municipality, and it might as well be coming from an underground well because it contains sand and other debris and low pressure. After our water meter we have a 40 micron spin down filter, and a limestone reducer, and then the water gets stored in a 1000 liter storage tank. The water pump is connected to that tank, and the pump in turn fills the pressure tank which holds 400 liters of water.
      This setup reduces the chance of the pump running dry and burning out, and gives us time to clear out the plugged up spin down filter.
      Also reduces the dirt that would otherwise end up in the tanks over time.

We can't afford to drill a new well at this time, but are getting ready to build a new home that will utilize the well as it's culinary water source. What would you recommend for the best filter system to remove these large rust scale particles and not have to constantly be buying expensive replacement filters?

I have a spin down filter(40 micron), a “three stage cartridge filter” (which includes a 5micron sediment and a carbon filter), a tank iron filter and a water softener . I’ve read and have been told that the “three stage filter” can go between the iron filter and water softener .. would this be ok. I feel if it’s before the iron filter the 5 micron cartridge may get bogged down.. ?

Between the pressure pump and water tower? Or after the water before the pipes split up to whichever outlet. Or perhaps somewhere else? Absolutely no experience with plumbing except changing a few pipes and outlets. Thanks!
