I used to interpet this scene as Jeff already knowing he had real feelings for Annie, thus volunterring. Now I see it a bit differently. The entire series was about Jeff overcoming his pessimism and learning to acually care about something. By Season 3/4 he knew he cared about Greendale and loved the study group, they were literally his chosen family. He volunteered figuring he cared about each of them enough to get it to work. That's why he thinks about each of them indivudually rather than going straight to Annie, he never planned to use his feelings for her alone. When the mainframe cold starts because of her is when he realises the depths of his feelings for her after years of repressing. Kind of makes the scene sadder. He didn't want to fall in love with her and you can tell by his face afterwards that he feels ashamed and is struggling to process it. It's a tragically romantic touch for a comedy show that doesn't really do romance.

Lol I’m pretty sure the Dean and everyone knows that there’s something between Jeff and Annie. He did mention in the ass crack bandit episode that everyone knows about them
I'd like to believe he knew it was Annie, since, in the same season (episode 3), Dean tells them that he thinks they like to partner up and "hold hands in the dark". I think it would be really nice character growth for dean and also Jeff.
When I first saw this scene I thought the emotional components started working because of a combination of feelings for all four of them instead of just for Annie
If only they didn't constantly tell us that the relationship between them would be weird because of the age gap. We saw the chemistry between Annie and Jeff as early as the 2nd half of season 1 they could have made Annie older and Jeff younge but instead they decided to abandon it, which isn't really that bad until they came back to it in season 5 which is already too late to fix the mess. Fun fact: Allison (Annie) & Gillian (Britta) is the same age irl.
I get that the Dean’s infatuation with Jeff is supposed to be funny and all, but this moment was supposed to be special and a strong moment for Jeff and Annie’s relationship. It really didn’t feel appropriate to have another Dean moment where he steals the spotlight by refusing to acknowledge that Jeff has zero interest in him, it wasn’t funny here and it was honestly just annoying
I always see this interpreted as "proof that Annie is Jeff's true love." As in, his connections with the Dean, Britta, and Abed weren't strong enough, and it was his connection with Annie that mattered. But I took it as his emotional connections with everyone present being what opened the door. Seeing as the whole series is about these strangers coming together to form a...community, and seeing as Jeff doesn't end up with anyone by the end of the show, demonstrating his bonds with the group as a whole seems more in line with the show's priorities than settling which individual he's closest to.
I think it's because he knew it was Annie that Jeff was thinking of that caused the machine to work. To me I think it was a like a gesture for Dean to say he lost Jeff's affection to Annie
The dean thought Jeff was looking at him go back to 0:58 when all of them turned around Jeff had to look away fast so they wouldn’t know he was looking at Annie
I feel like Im the only one who thought differently here. Everyone saying it was Annie but rlly if you think about it its the whole grp including the ones who left like troy and abed bc he changed bc of him. So I think all of them had an emotional impact on him
Ancient Night Nope it was Annie, Dan Harmon confirmed it multiple times. It’s the relationship arc between the two, they love each other but timings were off and Annie was still maturing. By the time she matured, she was leaving for the internship so the relationship could not come to fruition. Realistically if there was a movie, I’d expect Annie and Jeff to end up together in the end
Originally I thought Annie was, went back and saw the scene again and thought Dan Harmon insinuated it was the group. But I after analyzing it multiple times, there's a big hint that it's Annie. If you notice when the camera pans to Dean, Britta, and Abed's faces, the camera is out of focus. The camera only comes into focus when Jeff looks at Annie. In my book that's as definitive as it gets.
This was the episode when Jeff and Britta announced their engagement. Later underground looking for treasure. Annie's eyes look sad. She went into the room and she was starting to cry. Secretly, she was in ❤ with Jeff. The M'lady and M'lord thoughts between Jeff and Annie opened the secret door. Jeff should have told Annie how he felt about her.
I can certainly see Annie putting Jeff’s passion over the top, but I would argue that it’s the culmination of all four of his friends that he sees. He’s embarrassed because he doesn’t want to admit how much he loves them all, it would cramp his cool guy persona. Jeff spent nearly all six seasons dissing Greendale relentlessly, just to cover the fact that it brought him what he wanted and needed most in life: a family.
I never liked the ship of jeff and annie. Especially since i always shipped annie and abed. I really hope they dont make them a couple if the movie ever happens
Jeff and Annie brings out the best in each other, they balance each other out. Jeff makes Annie relax so that she can enjoy life while Annie makes Jeff become a better version of himself. Annie was the only one who didnt see him as a selfish asshole, she knew all of his flaws but she decided to see past through them and chose to focus on his good side and she succeeded, she was the main reason why Jeff grew, all of the study group helped him to but most of the moral decisions he had to make was because of Annie. With Jeff and Annie, they can grow and evolve to become better people but with Annie and Abed, Annie wants to grow up and have a serious life but Abed wants to stay childish and it could never work with them. Abed constantly manipulates and plays with her emotions for personal gain with no remorse, he acted as Han Solo and forced Annie to become the Princess Leia, forcing her to become attracted to Han Solo and he never thought about how it might affect Annie, he just cared about completing the trope and when Abed catfished her and pretended to be her facebook boyfriend just because of breakfast. Abed didnt really care about Annie's feelings, but Jeff truly cared about Annie, he would do anything for her if it means ruining his reputation or making him look dumb, he would still do it just to put a smile on her face and when Jeff thought about his ideal season 7, he dreamt about being married to her. In the dream we dont see Jeff's actual job in the dream, he wasnt a teacher or a lawyer, he didnt care about his rep or his image, he just cared about Annie.
@@Blazko877 yeah but theyre relationship wouldnt work either. He tried to make her stay and teach. Their relationship would never work because they couldnt be happy in the same place at the same time. Annie wants to keep going higher with her career while jeff was complacent with where he was. It doesnt matter if jeff had dreams of marriage, he himself found out that he had to let her go. Their romance will forever be doomed.
@@redder_ Jeff isnt really stuck at Greendale, he can move somewhere else with Annie. Yes Annie wants to keep going higher but Jeff will always encourage her and support her, he's always been her number 1 fan and he'll continue to do so. Their relationship isnt doomed, its hopeful because Annie told Jeff that they didnt miss their chance by saying "too many variables." After their kiss Annie regained her hope because she finally knew that Jeff has feelings for her and she probably knows that Jeff loves her now. There's still hope for them.
@Barok Espinoza yea I don’t get why people like Annie and Abed, there are just so many red flags between them. He constantly manipulates her and plays with her emotions without feeling sorry for his own personal gain while Annie is always condescending and kind of mean to Abed. Their relationship won’t work too, they just have different goals and views in life that won’t fit with each other. Annie wants to grow up, be more settled in, have a boring life while Abed wants to stay childish and never grow up. This is the reason why Jeff and Annie is good for each other. They both make each other into better people, Jeff makes Annie more relaxed and less uptight while Annie makes Jeff turn into a better man with an actual heart. They have qualities that fits into each other and complements each other. They just balance each other out perfectly. It's the smaller scenes like this, and the results from Britta's psych test that really pull my heart strings.
I think about this every single day
He knew. He just needed confirmation.
4ever team Jeff and Annie
Ok real question, is that nod that dean gave like, I know it was me. Or I know it was her.
I'd like to believe he knew it was Annie
I wish he was looking at annie when they all turned around, and then looked at the dean, and then the dean nodded
I'd like to believe he knew it was Annie, since, in the same season (episode 3), Dean tells them that he thinks they like to partner up and "hold hands in the dark". I think it would be really nice character growth for dean and also Jeff.
It was definitely "I know it was me", Jeff was looking at him when he turned around so he got the wrong idea.
Orbital Drop I think Abed saw Jeff looking at Annie because you can see him turning around just before Jeff looked away from Annie
the deep trust the Dean holds towards Jeff and how Jeff truly cherishes it, gotta be my favourite part about this scene
Wait how did he know but everyone else didn't?
I love this scene so much 😢❤️
idc i love them together
The dean saw Jeff had turned his head towards him and just smiled so proudly
Best scene in the show imo
When I first saw this scene I thought the emotional components started working because of a combination of feelings for all four of them instead of just for Annie
I miss it so much. I miss Annie.
Why the hell am I blushing like a 15 year-old girl...
When Jeff looks at each person, can he hear their thoughts or is he imagining what they might say?
Im pretty sure he's remembering instances with them to see if he can develop that passion/emotion
he is remembering conversations he's had with them.
I really need a movie to see them together again
I love that accidental look at the Dean
i love this scene so much lol
when i first saw this scene I assumed that all of them sort of contributed to jeff's strong feelings, which signifies that he loved all of them
Nope just Annie
This scene 💗
the dean is the best thing in this scene
WAIT A MINUTE. Was that look the dean gave Jeff at the end supposed to mean he knew what Jeff did?? I never even noticed that and I'm gonna cry
He thought Jeff looked at him because he looked away from Annie after the process
dean shouldve been the one plugged in. him and jeff are the real love story here
The place would've exploded, taking Greendale and everyone inside with it. Not a very responsible move 🧐
Everyone here talking about Jeff & Annie and I'm just here laughing my lungs out at how Dean thought it was cause of him and Jeff 😂
He didn't, he knew it was about Annie
This scene cracked me the first time that I saw it
Oh this got me in my feels
Jeff and annie is better than Jeff and britta
im crying wtf
If only they didn't constantly tell us that the relationship between them would be weird because of the age gap.
We saw the chemistry between Annie and Jeff as early as the 2nd half of season 1 they could have made Annie older and Jeff younge but instead they decided to abandon it, which isn't really that bad until they came back to it in season 5 which is already too late to fix the mess.
Fun fact: Allison (Annie) & Gillian (Britta) is the same age irl.
I think it was a running joke with the writers that some fans took way to seriously.
I totally forgot about this part omg
I get that the Dean’s infatuation with Jeff is supposed to be funny and all, but this moment was supposed to be special and a strong moment for Jeff and Annie’s relationship. It really didn’t feel appropriate to have another Dean moment where he steals the spotlight by refusing to acknowledge that Jeff has zero interest in him, it wasn’t funny here and it was honestly just annoying
I just thought the dean the dean was acknowledging that Jeff loves Annie and he will keep it a secret.
It was annie Wasent it
Yes she was the reason
noooo, it was abed lmao
IT WAS
No, It was Pierce
@@punkkurt5 Pierce died.
#sixseasonsandamovie better have Annie and Jeff or Annie and Abed together?
Annie and Jeff
Annie and Jeff
Annie and Jeff :)
Annie and Jeff forever!!
Troy & Abed > Annie & Abed
Is there ever going to be a movie? Lol
THATS ROLAND FROM SCHITTS CREEK
Holy shit, writers dropping bombs by making Jeff’s thoughts for Dean power the computer. Bravo, bravo
Lol, this reminds me of recent events.
I'm late to the game I know. But I wish Annie knew it was her!
does anybody know the soundtrack at the end?
Dave Matthews Band - Ants Marching
@@yoddysihombing564 his real fans call him Dave
Where's my fucking movie ;(
I was really hoping it'd be Abed or Dean but I guess Annie's cool too
Music at 0:37 ???
Can someone tell me why the Dean looks at Jeff?? I don’t understand that!
I think it's because he knew it was Annie that Jeff was thinking of that caused the machine to work. To me I think it was a like a gesture for Dean to say he lost Jeff's affection to Annie
@@isaac2990 he lost Jeff’s affection? Like he found out??? Anyway thank you explaining! 🙂
@@KingofKnowhere yes please
@@KingofKnowhere do you have the video or the source where he says that?
Music 0:52 ?
Ok
I cry
I'm like fiftieth person on this campus to ask but what is this?
A scene from the TV show community ?
I know he loves the group, but this scene is all about Annie
theme od 00:52 ?
Watching this again, it seems that the "blast of emotions" are not just for Annie, but for everyone cause he loves his friends.
Bro, it's for Annie.
It's obvious, plus the writers talked about this scene
500💰👍
I mean i get how this is supposed to be sweet and all but ffs the part where the door opens if u have feelings is fucking cringe
It's not to be taken seriously
Tha last few seconds were gay and killed the awesomeness between jeff and annie
thats the joke homophobe
Lmao that was the joke bro
"Gay! I'm gay. I'm for real gay!"
This made me gag, why was the show shipping Jeff and Annie together
Annie/Abed shippers just fooled themselves into thinking that there’s something between Annie and Abed
