What an incredible trip! It was awesome to get to meet in person & I had such a great time. Loved seeing your paintings in this video & your insights on getting the most out of. a workshop. Thank you for sharing. Great video as always x
I learned early I am not the best judge of my art or photography😆. I love this abstract painting, it is beautiful. I tossed an abstract painting in my “need to work on” bin, pulled it out a year later and realized it was done. I’m heading to Washington on December 5. It is so beautiful. I am enjoying this video. Thanks !😊
Loved meeting you in Seattle! You pulled off not seeming at all as tired as you were 😊 You are a delight - and everyone was so friendly. I loved nerding out on supplies. Just finished loading up my first dried gouache travel palette this week. Thanks for hosting it - hope you return to the PNW soon. Looks like you had an amazing trip - but I can see why it took awhile to recover!!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip! I would have liked to come to your Seattle meetup, but too far to go (from up across the border), especially after having done recent stay in Edmonds WA, for ‘Sketcherfest 2024.’ I too follow Mike Hernandez and hope to take a plein air painting workshop with him one day. Your comments about learning the process from an instructor, their sharing of compositional tips, etc is so much more important than trying to copy what they are doing or their style. I continue to share your website, RUclips channel, and Instagram site with my own students. Many have now signed up for your newsletters as well.
I met you in Seattle and it was the JOY and thrill of my year. You are my gouache hero. Many years ago I invited you to stay with me in WA state as we have moved out of Seattle and have acres of beautiful waterfront land (closer to Mt. Rainier) with lots of guest rooms and outbuildings so you could have privacy. I’m happy to hear you had friends and family to stay with. If you come back you are invited. We would pick you up at the airport and I promise you would love it. Painting outside is the funnest fun. I love it. It’s such a great combination of my 2 favorite things, beautiful scenery, clean fresh air and artwork. I used to fly a lot for business and I found it to be very tiring and a sensory overload. I much prefer a quiet walk. I watched the Sketches and Scrubs (unsure about the name suddenly) but I had coincidentally just found her and subscribed to her channel a mere week before you appeared on it. I finally had the right timing to buy your gouache brushes. Every time I tried before they were sold out. They are on their way. I got to see and touch your brush in Seattle. I’m the one in the cotton beret hat~~ and I’m so thankful you let us attend your meetup. I know traveling is hard work and jet lag is real…so I’m even more glad you made it. You were super fun and gracious and again I had the BEST time that day. What a day. I’m also the one who brought a big chair with the large blue umbrella. My husband happened to have been the builder of the building we sketched at. Thank you, thank you, thank you, that day meant the world to me!!!! Catherine
Hi Catherine, it was so great to meet you and chat with you!! I think someday in the future (after my kitties go to Valhalla) I would like to travel around the US for longer, there is still so much I haven’t seen. Then maybe I can take you up on your offer ☺️
Wow I feel tired just hearing about this trip!😅Fabulous story time, thank you for all the work you put in to make this video! It was very fun to kind of get to travel along with you and hear about your adventures! I am SO happy you finally got to meet @sketchesnscrubs!
You're absolutely not wrong about driving in Seattle. We have some of THE WORST, most impatient, most ENTITLED drivers I've ever seen, and as a trucker I've seen it all.
Oh how nice you were in NY during September. So pretty that time of year. I live in Brewerton so you were actually pretty close to me. I could’ve picked you up at Syracuse airport 😂. Your trip looked amazing!!!! So happy you had such good travels.
Loved every second of your video❤I’ve been an artist almost all my life and I’m 75 years old. Your watercolors are fabulous and I love the colors you choose in your landscapes. What a great channel!! Thank you❤
Well plenty of video left, but I just wanted to say you are a very lucky Lady! SO much going on and so much to do too! Relaxing time at your Fathers and getting to create Art all across the, well, the world! OK Back to the video and I know you had a wonderful time, as am I just watching!!
Hi Sara..I'm just seeing this meet up in Langley..n Seattle..I'm missing it..wish I could've been part of it! Going with my kids out n about to water to sketch n paint with my grandson.
Fabulous video, Sarah! Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I’m sure I speak for many of us when I say we get to live vicariously through you! It looks like you had such a great time even given all the mishaps and unfortunate situations. I look forward to your next video. Thanks again.
Wonderful video. You mentioned perhaps a little discussion regarding supplies to take. Did I miss this? Anyway lovely content and your painting of the barn / landscape is fantastic.
What a beautiful time you had here in America. I lived in Seattle when I was 5 years old. We stayed there for 9 months. Mom and Dad needed more sunlight so we moved to Lakewood, Colorado in 1964. My husband and I took the train from Denver to Tacoma in August 1992. We traveled by the Columbia River. It was beautiful. There were a lot of hot days in the week. It rained the day we arrived. I loved the music from your Dad's place. I hope you had the time of your life. I enjoyed your sketches and videos. I am sure you are happy to be home with your husband and your cats. Do have a beautiful fall.😊❤
Thank you Sarah for sharing your adventures of art and travel. So much to see and do, and folks to meet. Im not surprised itvtook some time to recover and digest it all. Im glad youre home safe and in looking forward to seeing new videos.......Alioban ❤
Welcome back, Sarah! I am so glad that the weather here in the Pacific Northwest was on its best behavior while you were here. Thank you for sharing your travels!
Missed you, but totally worth the wait to see this video. What a wonderful adventure! So glad you had some fun, relaxing times between the inevitable travel chaos - those will be the memories that last. I really like your workshop philosophy. And Whidbey Island is a treasure. The next time you visit you should definitely check out Rosario Beach near Deception Pass (the northernmost area of Whidbey) - now THAT is a scenic place! Welcome back to RUclips and we all look forward to more Sarah fun.
I live in Cazenovia NY and I think I saw the art deco "Elecktra" building - so I am guessing that was Dinasaur BBQ? Thanks for sharing your adventures. Loved seeing it
I enjoyed every second of this video. You are my alter-ego. I’ve dreamed of being an artist since I was a kid. And…well…my talents are not pencil and paper. Sigh. I live in Washington State so I got excited to see what you saw while here. Now I can’t wait to see your next video.
Hi Sarah - I was so glad to get your story of your trip this morning because so surprised there you were on Whidbey Island that I look at from my house in Port Angeles Washington every day! Aren't I lucky to live here ? and I'm glad you love our trees and views. I used to go to Whidbey often and should again now. I would have loved to see you but didn't know. I watch your videos often and think you are a great painter. Thanks for sharing your great trip and art. I'll keep watching - Rosemary Petersen
What a great trip. Glad you had fun. It can be hard not to cram as much as you can into a trip when you know that it's not a trip you can make every week or month. You just naturally want to make the most of your time. It's just human nature. On your thoughts on the abstract quality of a painting. Photorealistic paintings are skillful and alright but I think they sometimes only capture what you see. I don't think I'm articulating this very well. 🤔 I think people are more drawn to the feeling in a painting than the accuracy of it. I like to see the artist's hand in their work, probably what the artist might consider little mistakes, but those little bits of magic add to the overall feeling in a painting. Okay, I'll try again, if I was going to pay someone to paint an image of my lovely Labrador, I don't really care how precise and realistic the painting looks of a Labrador if it hasn't captured the spirit and fun loving nature of my dog. It's got to have that life, that feeling in it. Sorry, that's the best I can explain it, I'll hop back under my rock now 😂
Great story thanks for sharing Sarah. Also I really loved your quick sketch from the end of your workshop that was so loose , even before you said anything about it I thought it was definitely my favourite and I don't normally even like more abstract art, or so I thought, but it was fabulous!
Wow! Wow! What a trip! It was so interesting to hear about all of your adventures. I belong to the Sangamon Watercolor Society in Illinois. We do plein air in the summer here. Sketching and painting outside is so different than being indoors in a studio. ( my son and granddaughter live in Kirkland, Washington not far from Seattle. It’s a beautiful place but I would not want to live or drive there.😃🤪
Hi Sarah, what a wonderful time you had in the US and London, Whitby Island looks beautiful and your right it also reminded me of Scotland. Thank you for sharing!
Great. video, Sarah! Thank you for putting it together for us. I won't comment on the high points, as there were so many...Just glad you're home safe now with Wolfy and the kitties.
What a trip! (What a start!) Hey, that tired canoeing piece felt like the closest to the ‘design’ quality that you wanted to learn from Mike! That was such an adventure, love how much art you got in!
thank you so much for taking us all along , sarah .. i loved that music fest with your dad !! how fabulous!!! and to watch mike hernandez paint !! holy cow!! thx again for sharing it with us.. Norakag 👍👍

I enjoyed going on your trip! You might look into flying direct from Edinburgh to Newark which has an Amtrak station at the airport. That’s what I did in July.
What a trip!! 💛🧡❤️ Thank you so much for sharing it. As usual, I learned a lot even from just your commentary on the experience. (I think we’re a lot alike in perspective.) Yeah, flying is horrible… but look at what it allowed you to do! Shout out to Whidbey Island - the best sunrises & sunsets in the PNW 🌅
i hate flying too lol i try to medicate myself enough that i pass out 😝 yay! to Jane! 😀 32:09 i love views like that, so much to draw and paint in areas like that 🥰🥰the only reason i would ever go to london is to draw all of the buildings and soak in history at the big museums, but its too big of a city for me. Toronto is too big for me, but it has nothing on the population of london lol
Hi Sarah! Great recap. Your dad's property looks amazing and fun. I also find it a challenge to figure out what art supplies to bring when traveling...even locally. Just curious, did you end up bringing a tripod and if so did you use it at all? You've inspired me to make some more trips outside with my art kit, even just locally. Though sitting at a Turkish restaurant with a good view sounds amazing too. Love the food. Cheers!
Wow! That was an ambitious journey, and I was tired just listening about all of the Ubers and planes and walking.😄 I didn’t realize you were in WA state! I live at the foot of Mt Rainier. Will you be doing a flip through of all of your sketches together?
Hello, can you help me? My gouache colors dried up and I put some water on them. It worked and they became new, but after several days I found mold on them. Is there a solution to this problem? 😢
What an incredible trip! It was awesome to get to meet in person & I had such a great time. Loved seeing your paintings in this video & your insights on getting the most out of. a workshop. Thank you for sharing. Great video as always x

His work uses a lot of colors but an economy of strokes. Everything seems to impressionistic. What a great workshop.
This sounds like such an amazing experience ☺☺
I am smiling this whole time! Enjoyed your stories about the trip!

Yes! We made a special trip there because Wolfy is a carnivore 😂
At 24:40 min, you talk about your purple shadows: Oh please, don’t stop using purples in your shadows! I love them 😍 ❣️🙏
I don't plan on stopping that, just want to be more sensitive to grays/neutrals so I can harness the power of color more easily :)
Whole family is so creative...bless you all😊
Your introspection of travel is excellent
What a cool story! Thank you for sharing and it's good to see you back. You were missed. Blessings.
Thanks for sharing "Story time with Sarah"!

Hi Sarah welcome back! Thank you for this wonderful vlog!
Terrific!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your travel vlog, Sarah ❤
Hi Sarah! 😊
What an incredible trip, Sarah! It looks amazing and fulfilling in so many ways. I totally relate to jamming in as much as possible during trips, too.
Yea it’s probably because I don’t travel often! I want to make the most of it
Beautiful. I hope to be able to make the next meet up. Super fun. Looking forward to finishing my gouache boxes and the future travel gouache brushes. Thanks for sharing!
Wow! How awesome. Thank you so much for taking us along.
I really enjoyed listening to your recap of the trip and seeing what you saw and painted - thank you! Between your video and Sandi Hester's trip video to Italy, I almost feel like I've travelled this past week too😄
I love watching artist travel videos!! Look up Alicia Aradilla - she has a huge playlist of that
Happy to hear you had such a great trip! Thanks for the entertaining recap!❤
That was a great fun video - sounds like you had a wonderful - if exhausting - time! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks for the wonderful travelogue. Glad you are back safe and sound.
Great story, Sarah! I hope you'll brave the flight to Australia someday!
It’s on the list! Wolfy has family in Perth
Thank you for sharing! Loved this video
I am taking Mike's 2 day course next month in Sedona. Weird circumstances led to us changing our week vacation from Zion to Sedona at the same time he is giving this course, but I didn't know about the course until just after you took his course in Washington. (I am one of your newest Patreon people, btw). Anyways , I am taking his course, which will be my first in person class.
This video calmed my nerves and makes sense to me. Just be a student and don't try to make a good show. I will pack my notebook for notes. Thank you, Sarah!
What a fabulous trip , thanks for sharing your adventures i enjoyed it very much 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for watching :)
Thanks for sharing your adventures and that is quite brilliant advice about workshops; I hardly ever produce decent work if I'm slavishly trying to copy the tutor's style but I do soak up everything they say and it is definitely worthwhile to listen and observe as much as you can. Those valuable nuggets gleaned then inform your own work anyway. I'm glad you're back home safely with Wolfie and the cats :)
The Eastern Washington area looks like where I live, minus the water.
I normally have a very short attention span and jump around videos but I watched this entire thing so well done so enjoyable thank you very much
Well done 😄 I do tend to ramble! But this one is for the long time viewers 😋
Mike Hernandez!!! I’ve seen all the RUclips on him I could find. Thanks for showing your journey. I would have had to be comatose to do all your flying.
Nice.. enjoyed!
Flying is always the worst part of vacation. London is never a place I make an effort to go to, but always really enjoy when I’m there.
Flying is definitely the absolute worst part!
Not abstract, Painterly🥰
Wow Sarah! What an amazing adventure that was..I was wondering how did the teacher make a tonal painting in gouache and then paint over it?didn’t the under layer re activate? Sorry my ignorance!
fabulous video. Loved seeing your trip and all the fun. Glad to hear about your brother's geology youtube. Wish I could take the class you did cause I love his work too. Fun seeing you and Sketches and Scrubs hanging out. You should do a class in Portugal. I'm moving there to live next weekend November 3,4 and don't know a single person. Or maybe I can get to Scotland someday THANKS SO MUCH!
I’d love to visit Portugal someday
I enjoyed going on your trip! You might look into flying direct from Edinburgh to Newark which has an Amtrak station at the airport. That’s what I did in July.

No at the last minute I didn’t bring a pochade box or tripod! And even then I had too much. I only had a carry on
Wow! That was an ambitious journey, and I was tired just listening about all of the Ubers and planes and walking.😄 I didn’t realize you were in WA state! I live at the foot of Mt Rainier. Will you be doing a flip through of all of your sketches together?
Mt Rainier is so gorgeous! We went there last time I visited
Yea I did a full flip through on Patreon (I do that every month)
I’m thinking we need a book…just saying….winter side project 😁
I’ve been working on Sketching Scotland Vol 02 ☺️
Hello, can you help me? My gouache colors dried up and I put some water on them. It worked and they became new, but after several days I found mold on them. Is there a solution to this problem? 😢
Sarah, do you think that AI 'art' ruins artists' carriers?
Proko does think so, I think.
