    I am so utterly disappointed that they don't make cars like this anymore. Nice sedan shape, proper 4 speed torque converter automatic transmission, proper engine, soft seats, soft suspension, classy interior.... Just everything. I want it so bad.

    I had a garage-kept one-owner green ‘95, that I bought in ‘07. One of my bucket list dream cars - I always felt amazing driving it, the handling and isolation were superb, and the seats amazing just like you’d said. The transmission had a catastrophic failure 2 years later at around 108,000 miles [175k km or so], $4k US to fix in ‘09 which is $5,432 CDN in today’s dollars. Oil pan leaked as they all did because it’s a feature of all northstar engines, and it’s an engine-our repair that was almost $3k US to fix. I lived with the oil leak. Sold it to someone I was dating in 2011 who needed a better car. The relationship didn’t work out. I really miss my Aurora, almost daily, and regret selling it.

    Such a beautiful car! The luxury cars from American car manufacturers of the mid 90s and early 2000s were truly at the end of an era for luxury vehicles that featured character.

    I just picked up a 1995 Olds Aurora with 10,442km/6000miles. 92 year old man bought it new and stored it in a climate controlled garage. This care is as mint as one could expect. Adriatic Blue Metallic. Wish I could share pictures.

    I have a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora with 260,000 km now to date got it off my father-in-law kept it well no rust and I love the car like you said it runs and drives beautifully and on top of it. I feel very safe in itand on top of it on the highway it’s just great to drive it. It just cruises and like you said it has great passing powers and on top of it I get good gas mileage for a V-8.

    When my 300zx tt was in the shop in high school ( often) I would drive my mothers 97 aurora and street race the ricers. So funny to roll on them in an all stock Oldsmobile. I beat a 97 eclipse gst from a roll. We never let him live that down. Have you heard the videos of auroras with dumped exhaust. So musical

    I bought a green '97 Aurora in 2000 with 80,000 kilometers. Awesome car and it was like new. When it had about 205,000 km on it I sold it and got a '99 (Dark Blue) with 100,000 km on it. In 2011, the blue one had about 200,000 km on it and I sold it and had thought I would have to go to a more modern car (to present well as a Realtor®). I tried out new Maxima's and various cars and was not impressed. I would look at the blue Aurora in parking lots and felt it was the best looking car there. Then I found a gold colored '98 Aurora with only 52,000 km (30,000 miles) and it had never been out in the rain. This was 2011. The seller was a retired car guy and this was his wife's rarely used, heated garage kept car and he was smart enough to drive it often enough to keep it fresh. It was literally like new and I got it for $7,600 Canadian dollars! I drove it until early 2018. In all that time, with all 3 cars, I never replaced an exhaust component. Only suspension work was 2 $19 bushings. An amazing car that I was very fortunate to drive for 18 years. I still miss it. I just noticed last week that the new Lucid Air Electric cars seem to have a lot of styling cues from the Aurora. Smart choice!

    I have one - 1995 in Lt. Antelope color. 60,000 miles. Purchase it new and now covered on collector's car insurance. These are becoming rare and I get looks and comments wherever I travel. Change your coolant regularly and maintain it properly - it will last and give you good service. The Buick Rivera is the sister car but has the 3.8 liter engine (some supercharged). I actually like the look of the Buick better - it looks like a torpedo. The Buick is a coupe and the seats are even more plush. My engine has been out to fix oil leaks. Enjoy your ride. The 4.0 liter V8 does not tolerate overheating - so watch your temperature gage. Northstar Performance Parts has a head stud kit if you have head gasket problems - the cause is actually the head bolts coming loose. It costs lots to fix these cars, so many are mechanically totaled when problems arise.

      Thankyou! Honestly one of my favourite cars I've owned. So much character. I understand the reliability is not the best but, in my mind, I think its worth the expense LOL

    • @jrcars7017
      @jrcars7017 9 месяцев назад +1

      The Riviera is everything that's great about the Aurora, plus Buick reliability. The N* sounds better, but the supercharged 3800 is a bit more powerful and the Riviera is faster stock but also easier to modify for power.

  • @jrcars7017
    @jrcars7017 9 месяцев назад +1

    I wouldn't call the Aurora a failure. The styling was a huge hit when the concept car was released (production car is nearly identical to the concept car). It sold well but the time of the SUV was at hand, and GM simply had too many divisions. Oldsmobile never had any SUVs as far as I know, other than the Bravada, which was a good looking vehicle for the time but not exceptional.

    • @321verykind
      @321verykind  9 месяцев назад +1

      That’s very true. Gm had a lot of things going on that time. The bravada didnnt do a good job separating itself from the Chevy blazer and gmc envoy, which was also an issue leading to the downfall of Oldsmobile

    2nd post in this thread: I had just bought my ‘95 Aurora about two years before President Obama’s cash for clunkers program hit. It was all over the news for weeks. One TV news report showed the euthanasia process for a car the govt was destroying. Curious, I watched it, which was a mistake. It was a ‘95 Aurora that was selected for the demonstration. I was physically sick at the end, having watched the car being mechanically destroyed. I really loved my Aurora and the visual of seeing that wonderful piece of fantastic American machinery I’d always admired so much being destroyed really affected me.

      @321verykind my aurora needs some serious work but I can do it myself so I'm not worried, but in the future these will both get a engine swap and some power to put down to the rubber, Nothing crazy I'll be happy with 4 or 500 horsepower, maybe ls swap both and have luxury sleepers I'm not sure yet
