Watching this now after all these years and the hairs stand up on back of my neck when Durham Edition hits the front. Coming from the same village as the owner and drinking in the same pub as Robert ' Bob ' Oxley, who sadly passed away earlier this year in his 90s, just brings back a mixture of emotions.
thanks for the upload. Brings back some great memories of the day itself for me. Lovely to see some romance in the shape of the rank outside where not all runners blandly rated 155-142.
I was 27 years old at that point in my life, i had Durham Edition, my heart was beating so fast as i thought my £2 bet had won, but that long run in done my horse as its done so many over the years, pretty sure i launched some sort of ornament we had at that time. 😂😂
My horse won! Thought it was a early faller as nobody mentioned it until the second circuit. It looked beaten after the last fence but what a come back! £50 up
I won my first and ever bet in the grand national on rhyme n reason looking back at the video that was one of the happiest grand national horse,it's like the horse was saying LET go we will see who is best 🤣
This was 30 years ago but I was still getting jitters from that build-up. The BBC's format was different from the other race days (O'Sullevan commentating the circle-round, betting set to music) but still understated.
This is great.Always wonder if Little Polvier would have won if he had not clouted the 26th?The winner was in a different class really, hard to imagine a horse coming to a standstill and winning nowadays!
Little polveir didn't fall the jockey unseated..he was going so well probably would have won it.. he came and won it the following year and I backed it 3 pound each way at 28/1

C Grant always said it didn't stay but given the horses record , seems a bit harsh.
I have on VHS every single race from 1988 to present day with all the build up from the start ..love the national
Thats great. WOuld you like to upload them to here?

I always remember John ‘Melling road’ Hanmer doing part of the commentary
How the hell it won after doing the splits at Beecher brook first time around beggars believe, fantastic by horse and jockey 🏇

Little polvier won the 89 national

Didn't say he did .He did hit it though...
Had £5 on him at 14/1, apparently David Elsworth had a hell of a job persuading the owner to run...phew 👌
...sounds like Bill Smith in the commentary box...
Hi sorry to trouble you but I cannot view this video please help thank you, Paul.
Hi Eddie, do you per chance have extended coverage of 1983 GN or the 1980 or 1981 aintree foxhunters - the races themselves?
Marcolo fell, the rider Venetia Williams broke her neck, but went on to be a successful trainer afterwards.
I thought the same, but I think that happened a few weeks later
Wrong
One brave horse considering he fractured his pelvis at beecher brook first time around doing the splits sadly he he never raced again.
Who done that song when the betting goes through ?
Mark Knopfler - Going Home
11:44
Kevin Cooills
15
I all wise wonder why did they ask the jockeys to put the horse's nose close to the type
...nothing Grand about it these days...
My first win when I was 12 I gave my 50p pocket money to my dad to place the bet,he told me it was a waste of money was he so wrong lol
The national is awful now, such a shame.
Have you got extended coverage of the 1977 national
It's almost painful watching this knowing its all coming to an end the 90 race was pale in conparission compared to 88
Carnage!
hi again Eddie, any chance of more extended grand nationals. been great to see thanks.
What is the music that comes up with the betting show on 5:35?
Just catching me breath .
