So if she was to lie through her teeth and say how sorry she was for what she did, she might get parole??..Being 'sorry' changes what exactly?
Yes it was a terrible thing that she did, but I have to admit to having an awful lot of sympathy for her, having read this story in depth a few years ago.
Having helped her husband get to where he was, she was left a broken woman, something her ex-husband and his new wife seemed to relish.
..She's served her time.Thirty plus years is enough in this case.

The story of men or women leaving their partners for a younger person isn’t new. It’s painful, hurtful and heartbreaking but I believe a lot of people in this comment section are in denial. Her husband was 💯 wrong to have an affair with his secretary. Betty could have took everything in court , walked away and rebuilt a new life. She was obsessed with them and because she has a narcissistic personality ( her husband does too), she continued with the constant phone calls, stalking, driving her car into their house and eventually deciding that she wasn’t going to allow them to be happy (revenge). She killed 2 people not one so obviously her sentence would be longer plus the way she killed them and the fact she hasn’t shown remorse is why she’s still in prison. There’s no justification for murder in this case. It wasn’t self-defence, he wasn’t even in her life anymore, she dropped the children off to live with him thinking he would eventually return to her. If a man did this, nobody would be feeling the sympathy. She puts on a performance and has played a role as a sweet little woman. When she ripped the phone out of the wall and left two people to die, that’s not what sweet people do sorry.

@@mariancounsellor I'm not sure where you get the idea she tried to portray herself as a 'sweet little woman' Marian.? What she did portray herself as was a woman totally dedicated to to doing whatever it took, to do the best for her family..which (from memory,) included taking menial jobs, which enabled her husband to,..not ONCE, but TWICE, train first as a doctor, then as a lawyer.
As I stated, this is from memory. What I read some time ago went into far
more detail. The things her ex and his new wife did were nasty and hateful.

human being you don’t think that the way Betty treated her husband and family was emotionally abusive? You must have a very one sided definition of that term. Maybe you aren’t familiar with the history and backstory of this case? It doesn’t sound like you are.
If you have a point to make then make it. But don’t weaken yourself by calling me Dans sister, a narcissist, etc. It just sounds stupid. Also cruel and unsympathetic to two families who lost people they dearly loved.

    • @sharonc1326
      @sharonc1326 6 лет назад

Further more, I Never said it was ok to be emotionally abusive or to betray the ones you love. So don’t put words in my mouth and assume you know my personal ethics. But it is definitely Not ok to kill someone if you are emotionally abused or manipulated. Walk away instead. Anyone that would make that choice deserves to live with the consequences of their physically violent act. Which is very different than non violent acts. Why not just move on and find a happy life? She was always the victim according to her. And takes no accountability for her part. She could have made much better and more empowering choices for the sake of herself and her children. She had plenty of money and resources.... including the option of seeing a therapist. Now she gets to live the rest of her life living with consequences, rightfully so.

Most people go to therapy to get over being cheated on, not call a million times, threaten people and act like an absolute psychopath in front of their children... If any man did what she did leading up to the murders, would you feel the same? I think not... Unstable people who break in and shoot people to death for doing her wrong is not justifiable. She’s notorious because it’s rare for a woman to do this even though cheating is not uncommon. If every woman who was cheated on acted like Betty, the prisons would be overflowing. She couldn’t allow him to move on and be happy and she was obsessed rather than moving on with her life. We all have choices and murdering two people under these circumstances does not make you a good woman in any stretch of the imagination.

So let the woman get paroled and get some help to get rid of all that anger… there’s no therapy in prison. She done her time. Yes what she did was wrong but she’s done her time. For those of you who are wondering what the decision was. She was supposed to serve an x number of years in prison but was commuted to life in prison without possibility of parole due to the fact she showed no remorse over her actions apparently. Her ex husband was a jerk who kept putting her down telling her she was getting old and fat. Ultimately he had custody of the kids, his new wife on the other hand was also a horrible human being. She mailed her brochures and ads for wrinkle cream and weight loss ads just to taunt Betty. This torment has been going on for 5 years after the divorce. So after all these years, she snapped and pulled the trigger on them both. After she supported her husband, paying for his college tuition until he graduated, he was ungrateful in the end. After being tormented, I understand why she snapped but it wasn't right. If anything she was the real victim because of the putdowns and abuse she endured for so long.

There are plenty of cases where women have been released early or given light sentences it all depends on the circumstances. In this case, she wasn’t deemed to be mentally ill, she sneaked onto their house whilst they were sleeping and she fired multiple shots into them. The aggravated nature of the case means until she demonstrates that she is unlikely to be a danger to others, they may never give her parole.

But she didn’t want to be made a fool of either after all that she sacrificed (no woman would) with Dan first having an affair with Linda, despite his denials and lies, before she became his wife. Betty hung in there with Dan during the lean years of their marriage helping to support his dream with raising their children, keeping house, working 2 and 3 jobs (and sometimes more) to support the family while he continued his education, on top of trying everything she could to be loving and attractive for Dan, (despite his constant verbal taunts about her looks), just so he could become the hot shot attorney he eventually became, only to be thrown away like yesterday’s garbage in the end by Dan after he achieved success. I don’t think so. Whether snapped or carefully planned, she was driven to the unfortunate act which caused their demise. If anything makes more sense besides “snapped” or “carefully planned”, I tend to think that Betty had temporary insanity when she went overboard. And because of that act, I feel that she had to do some time for her part in it, but not this long. Her buttons were pushed beyond the limits by Dan’s (and Linda’s) disrespectful and overall insensitive acts against her and unfortunately, they both went down side by side.

He took out a loan for his law degree, which he later repaid. He paid for that himself. It's true that Betty had to endure 3-4 years of poverty while Dan obtained his law degree, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't have been become what he was if he hadn't married her. If he hadn't married her, he would have done exactly what he did when he did marry her. Get a loan, work odd jobs while obtaining his law degree, and then become a very successful malpractice attorney. Betty had nothing to do with him becoming successful. Again, she had to endure a few years of poverty while he worked at it, but that doesn't mean she contributed to his success.

He wouldn't have been able to have her sent to a mental facility (I assume that's what you mean by "bullying") if she hadn't driven her car into his front door. He wouldn't have been able to have her arrested (I assume that's what you mean by "bullying") if she hadn't violated a restraining order by going to his property and then, in the presence of the police, refusing to leave. Linda never would have gone into Betty's home uninvited (I assume that's what you mean by "bullying") if Betty hadn't first opened the guest list to Linda's wedding uninvited and then stolen it. And finally, Dan wouldn't have done as well as he did in the divorce settlement if crazy Betty had only cooperated with her attorneys, retained her attorneys instead of firing them, and then actually had attorneys representing her instead of attempting to represent herself. If Betty had behaved with a modicum of pride, common sense, and decency, most of what you call Dan and Linda's "bullying" would never have occurred, and she would have come out of the divorce in a much better position financially than she did.

She has served her time already, how many of those parole people would have acted any different had they been gas lit for many years, emotionally abused for many years lied to cheated on, do they even know what happens to a person mind after going through all that emotional trauma? her husband was narcissist, he got off from controlling her, punishing her using her own children against her, turning them against her. The victims of narcissist are never believed, the narcissist it charming, knows how to manipulate people and make others believe that their partners are crazy Dan knew what he was doing and got off from doing it, he was a disgusting man. Did he deserve to die? How else was it going to end, this is what happens when a person sanity is pushed to the limit how on earth can people not understand this. In many ways what happened to Betty is worse than being hit on. When you have a blue eye a broken arm its easy to then understand self defense, but when a person is playing mind games, telling you are crazy, ugly, nothing you do is good enough, you are trying to fight for your family your kids for your sanity, then uses his power to control you punish you leaves you with nothing after you have sacrificed a lot. the I see it was it was her or him, he was driving her to such depression, that 1 or 2 things where bound to happen she was going to either kill her self or him. I know it may not sound like it was self defense, but believe me until you have been in a relationship like this you would not understand it, it really boils down to him/her or you. This is why gas lighting is so dangerous. Betty had no where to turn to. Some might say well she should have gotten help, where a Dr, no remember he used the law and it was on his side. No Dr would have been able to help her. The system let her down and is still letting her down. She has served her time, let her free.

She deserves to be in prison for the remainder of her days. She's obviously a psycho and doesn't comprehend reality. She has a narcissistic and histrionic personality... a very sick woman. Even though her husband and Linda were the victims, and it's no excuse, he treated Betty like crap. She put his butt through schools while she worked like a dog so he could get his degrees and get a highly paid job. She took care of their children and he looked for every excuse not to be home with her and so he could play house with his barely legal assistant. Linda was throwing it in her face by sending her pamphlets on losing weight and getting rid of wrinkles. They could have gotten married on any day but they had to choose ten days after what would have been Betty and his anniversary. They were adding fuel to the fire. I'm not saying they were bad people but they were playing the game with her. But at the end, they didn't deserve that.

For goodness sake she's hardly a notorious killer. She's a woman emotionally abused by a husband who had the upper hand in everything. Betty was never going to win let alone be set free to enjoy her life or her children. Narcissists do not allow that but they do poison the minds of everyone around them, especially those easy to manipulate such as children. Betty had zero chance.

Then with his new tarts, they taunted Betty emotionally. Those two had it coming.
