      Who was riding two abreast? Are you blind or didn’t you bother to watch the video? I won’t bother to explain the benefits to drivers of riding two abreast as you are clearly one of those mindless cyclist haters who won’t see reason. The only thing that surprises me is that you didn’t mention road tax or Lycra, so I guess you engaged both your brain cells before commenting, so well done on that 🙂

      @@wellifthemediasaysit your initial comment was obviously too subtle for me 😀 it’s a game of stereotyping - ‘all cyclists ride two abreast and ‘all drivers are cycling haters’. I’ve encountered those groups that refuse to help traffic flow, so know they exist, but we aren’t all like that. Ironically, I’ve asked my groups to single out to avoid upsetting drivers, resulting in a line of cyclists twice as long that they will find it even harder to pass safely. I hope it’s a generational thing that the human race will outgrow.

I am just up the road in Derbyshire and am sick to death with the countless times this happens. It's sad because the roads are some of the most scenic, but I'm now willing to get off them more to explore the traffic free routes (or less tarmac) options.

    Another great ride!
    Wendy mentioned about missing the hills in France. When I moved from a hilly city in the Midwest (I'm in the USA) where I rode bikes and hated the hills to a flat city on the East Coast, I found the flat routes to be boring. However now that I'm riding an adult tricycle, I very much appreciate the flat ground. 😊
    The pony was lovely. I would have stopped too. Maybe he was cautious about approaching because of the bikes.
    I envy your being able to ride 30, 40+ miles at a time. I just hit a distance goal of my own -- 21 miles. I rationalize my lack of regular long-distance rides on the fact my trike weighs 56 lbs, it's slow and I ride with 73 year old legs! 😅

      As a cyclist and motorist, the problem is in a lot of cases due to the ignorance of the cyclist, riding three abreast with no consideration for the motorist stuck behind them, the other thing that baffles me is why do most of these club cyclist go out dressed in all black,there should be a law stating cyclist have to wear bright visible clothing.

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  Год назад +2

      I know what you mean, although, in my experience, it’s not a lot of cases. As you may have seen, I place a great emphasis on courtesy to drivers and pedestrians - a courtesy that is sometimes not reciprocated. If I’m leading a large group I’ll split it up between leaders to give drivers a chance, and also pull over if creating a hold up. Unfortunately, there are groups that want to dominate the road as if to emphasise their right to be there. I believe that Strava isn’t helping, with some riders so desperate to beat a PB or claim a Q/KOM that consideration for others is not an option. And it really annoys me when they create a segment on a shared path. We have to get the message across that we are not all sport cyclists and there are many bicycle users who are wrongly tarred with the same brush as the few that are ignorant and discourteous,

      The crop is horribly named oilseed rape (OSR) the seeds of which are pressed to extract vegetable oil. There seems to be more of it this year. There has been a shortage of the oil as Ukraine are a major producer, so I wonder if this is why we are seeing more. It has quite a distinctive odour and is the scourge of hay fever sufferers. Leicestershire automatically advise what the penalty was but not the others. It's already been discouraged for decades. e.g. Parking restrictions and charges, park and ride, pedestrianisation, 20 mph speed limits, low traffic neighbourhoods and congestion charging. 15 minute cities are just another measure, but actually a more positive one, by aiming to provide the goods and service most people require much closer to their homes, so they don't need to travel significant distances. I don't believe we'll be prevented from travelling the length and breadth of the country as and when we wish though. The only limiter will be cost. I also believe cycling will always be a cheap means of travelling over modest distances (30-100 miles, depending on fitness). The dispensations for the disabled will also continue, so they can access places with powered private transport.
