When doing heavy haulage, it's always great to have brilliant escorts. Have now seen quite a few of your videos, and Alain is really on top of it all and keeps you safe
Amazing video! I can’t believe I watch parts 1&2 - great editing! I am impressed with how you all work together so amazingly. Keep up the great content.
A driver can’t get to this level of transport if he/she isn’t a team player. You need to know how to lead a team and use all the players. The “I don’t need any help” attitude doesn’t get you far here
Very great and educational video: really shows how complex heavy haul can be. It CERTAINLY takes a TEAM to pull it off successfully, cuz there’s TOO MUCH that could go wrong. Kudos to you guys!!!!
Good job! When I used to do heavy equipment haul, it seemed as though they always put us on the smallest, crappiest roads with a multitude of low hanging wires. Never could figure that out. I had many a state patrol and Canadian MP tell me the same thing. Paper pushers back in the office - you got to love them since they have no idea what the hell they're doing. Then you always had drivers that just sat there like a frozen turd in the middle of the road and weren't smart enough to move over out of the way! Guess that's enough of my bitching for now - LOL
The USA is still using the home movers guide that was used back in the 50's to route trucks, this is why you are going thru all of the little towns. That guide was supposed to be made obsolete many years ago, but many states still use it.
Thank your editor for extending the screen time for text, in part one I barely read half of each text string. Part 2, much better. Nice catch, I’ll assume they tasted great!
It never fails to amaze me how these routes are designated by the State as "OK for height" but are definitely not. Especially when they're routing you through rural, small-town Virginia and East Pennsylvania.
100 percent agree. Sometimes I wonder if they are attempting to discourage future oversized loads. I also wonder if Cat couldn't have done a slightly better job with "packaging", I wonder how much "open space" is in that box and whether the roof could have been made to be lowered for transport and then raised to the height needed to maintain the genset?
Ought to send this video to all DOT permitting departments as an educational service. I bet you that half these permitting folks have no clue where they sent these oversized loads into..
@@michaelk7111 I did not drive semis, I only sent loads - usually cranes to refurbish the power plants. I can only relate to you the stories the truckers brought back. Any route that requires you to actually stop to negotiate wires, other than in Winter when the weight causes them to sag, should not, IMHO, be a "route". Funny thing was, I used to have some great friends in ODOT and they told me they ran crews every day in Ohio with "tickle sticks" mounted on their vehicles to see where there were low wires. They could certify heights for each route at certain levels so you guys could maintain traffic flows.
@mostlyinterested1016 our routes are all pre verified. But they only care about hard obstacles like bridges and overpasses. They don’t bother with tree branches or wires.
Who planned that route? It was pretty much a nerve wracking obstacle course all of the way. There sure is a lot more to your job than meets the eye. I really enjoy your great editing - thank you for sharing.
These routes are approved by the state. Which doesn’t say much! But it’s not as easy as you might think. Low bridges, width restricted construction zones, weight limited bridges… all factors that go into choosing a route
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Send a couple of your videos to the State department that picks the routes and when they see what you actually have to contend with, they might rethink some better routes for you.
I try to explain this because it is something that people who are not in the business just don’t know and understand the complexity of moving these loads between states.

The “guide wires” on the front of the load, are those placed by you guys to help with the power lines? Or was it a part of the load that just so happened to serve that purpose?
It's easy to see why this takes two weeks, and all the fiddly bits that can go wrong! I assume if an unexpected detour happens that's extra delay. Your team is fantastic, getting the job done!
Don't know if it's of any interest to you but on part 2 of Virginia Beach to Quebec I noticed your extendable mirrors vibrating a lot. This used to me until I took a bungee cord and twisted it many times then hooked it onto my mirror on the door. Took a lot of the vibration away from the extendable mirrors.
Is the touch pole on the lead car a bit taller than the load, or almost exactly the same height? i'd expect a bit taller to account for raising the trailer or not, and variations in the road height from one end of the rig to the other.
Amazing job still just can't understand why they put over sized loads through some of places u went through. I know you stop asking questions long time ago and just drive the route.. good job and bless u and your team
Hey Doug- Just got back from 50th High School Reunion. Couldn't wait to watch this. Hats off to the whole team. Freaking excellent job. Did you give the PA Trooper a huge tip ? LOL Whatever that town was called should be renamed Low Wire City, even if it was legal for 13' 6. If you knew about the gravel lot at 96/414, how many times have you done this route? Have a good day.
We hauled wind towers through the finger lakes area on a 6 month project last year and a lot of our route was the same. It was all still pretty fresh in my memory. There are only so many places to park trucks this big so it becomes a habit to spot and take mental note of potential parking spots as I’m driving around.
Do the people who set up your routes think you are moving with a Smart car or a VW? Since I live in Syracuse, NY I am wondering what route you went from Ovid to Messena (96/414 to 131)? What a great team you have and need!
It’s usually a decision based on finding a safe place to let them pass. We can’t pull over just anywhere. We try not to hold people up too long but it is inevitable doing this kind of work.
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Yes I can see that with the very narrow roads you are forced to drive on with those wide and long loads your options are limited.

I’m not sure what the maximum dimensions are to use the bridge tunnel but getting a route through the Wilmington/Philadelphia area would’ve been hell for these loads
With the time delays due to low wires, it seems like taking an end run back International Falls would be quicker despite being much longer, than the route you’ve been assigned.
Oh the memories(or nightmares) of many wires like that through the years(thing is most state highways are supposed to be 16ft and interstate a minimal of 20 ft but we know how that goes don't we?
Wish all wires and tree branches were 20 feet up and all branches were cut back at least 10 feet from the road edge. But then that wouldn't give anyone a challenge. Nice catch, wait two... 💪
Yes that is usually the rule in most places. However for these loads we were already being escorted by the police so they made the call to move as a convoy.
It happens on occasion but this company runs 90% east coast and Midwest. And I run mostly USA because I can cross the border. The drivers who can not cross the border for different reasons handle our domestic Canada freight.
Man I don't know where Pennsylvania permits we're trying to take you but I could have thought of at least three or four different ways to get up to New York without going that idiotic way....
