Man.. i don't follow the speedrun community, but i really like your channel, the passion you have for speedrun, and the way you make the videos(interesting) make me follow your channel and get excited about the broken records :)
If anyone can go for the "one in a million" and beat Attack Ship Agent 2:06, it's Ace. And with the world on lockdown right now, I wouldn't be surprised to see that record broken before the end of the summer.
It's somewhat amazing to me that there are some guys who have been at the top of speedrunning in the respective games for as long as they have. If we forget the early arcade days where all the biggest heroes of the era seem to have been discredited now, if we assume speedrunning really got into it's stride around the turn of the century, we have people like Jobst and Goosey who have been around at or near the top for almost all that time. Now, of course, it's not football or the 100m sprint. Younger men don't have an inherent physical advantage in speedrunning. But still, the more you stay at the top in any field, the more recognisable you are, the less hungry you tend to become for that recognition. And as a male, the more you age, the more you naturally become less competitive thanks to some deep, deep evolutionary pressures on younger men that inversely affect them as they age. Not that these guys are 'old', but they are significantly older than those real hungry guys coming through. I find it incredible, personally, that people like Karl Jobst, if anything, is more dominant now than he's ever been. I'm in his generation. I find if a game beats my ass now, at my current age, I feel absolutely no urge to compete with it until I win like I did when I was 16, I simply move on to the next thing. Even if I was skillful enough to get times that were world class in some game or another, I'm certain I would no longer have that competitive edge, that eye of the tiger that's required to push through and become the man. Salute to the grizzled, crusty old veterans still at the tops of their games.

My 0:48 is .65 and can be 0.5 faster at the beginning, and if you super cook the ending you can probably sqeeze out 0:47. Yet another time that we might only see Ace or Clemens achieve, if they decide to gun for it. I think inevitably Ace will.
More than breaking a 16 year old record - YOU DID SOMETHING NOBODY EVER DID BEFORE, and that's get 24 seconds on War Agent on a legitimate N64 and see that on your end screen. If you weren't enough of a legend, you became a legend (again) in the living rooms of everybody that ever played goldeneye and perfect dark. It's the true world record accomplishment. Great video goose as always, a legend in your own right, and forevermore enshrining in our minds the legends of speedrunning in these TIMELESS titles.

I feel like Perfect Dark's revival has a lot to do with how close to "solved" GoldenEye is getting. It's very hard to find anything to improve on a GE map, while PD remains comparatively optimized.
I don't understand how that video from the kid prodigy was proof. It was showing the run on a window within a computer, which as far as I know isn't possible with the N64. It looks like they are just recording a video being played on a computer while the kid holds a controller.
I watched Karl Jobst's own video on this, and I didn't even realize he was the war 25 world record runner until he said "on (date) I achieved this run:" and it took a second for it to click and me to realize that the broken record was his. He barely even mentioned it. Seriously, he seems to be a pretty cool dude.
Watching speed runs doesn’t really interest me all that much but learning how things have changed and how some of the glitches speedrunners use actually work is a lot of fun!
So happy people like Perfect Ace are getting the praise they deserve. Before the internet a speed runners times would go largely un-noticed. Now we can all bask in the accomplishments of these ABSOLUTE LEGENDS.
If this is the maximum possible effort that can be put in to speedrun the level then this is a level that has finally achieved the original goal of speedruns.

Does Ace play with the music off all the time? Doing so may free up CPU cycles as the N64 lacks dedicated sound hardware and sound is processed by the CPU.
@@handsomebrick I can't be certain without a hardware level test. Disabling the circuit where the cartridge sends sound data to the cpu would be a good place to start. My guess is based on if rare turns off music instead of setting the output volume to 0. I think they may.

As much as I like speedrun documentation, Goldeneye & Perfect Dark often seem like the story to breaking their WRs is just better execution, & there's little fancyness to the routing/tech. Still, thanks for uploading!
That's how it is for some of the levels on the easiest difficulty. And those just happen to be the ones that stand the longest because it's way more difficult to improve them since they're already well optimized. A lot of levels in both games have featured different techniques, glitches, and strategies though. They've developed quite a bit over the years.

I dont think it will happen with ease. Ace has 2:10 I think, and plenty of new runners have 2:09 or less. The closest is Lake Demon, with a 2:07
